Could you also try the stretch update I have put on

deb http://people.debian.org/~sthibault/tmp/stretch-tmp ./

so I could upload it to Stretch to fix the issue there for everybody too.

I'm not sure :/

I've now installed the -17 packages and after a few minutes developing

With the standard stretch packages I would get a full netbeans crash

BTW I had a look at the debian/patches list and there are quite a few
patches with upstream bug reports which don't have a response. Are
upstream still maintaining java-atk-wrapper? Or will you be able to drop
more of the debian-specific patches next time you merge from upstream?

Fantastic! I've just submitted some extra traces for the console
warnings above which I hope you will find helpful.

Poking around a bit with gdb it appears that the g_hash_table entries

It would be useful to know what actions trigger these (since I've been
unable to reproduce them, but I'm not a netbeans user)

Hi Samuel,

Let me try and explain a bit about my setup: it's an up-to-date Debian
stretch amd64 installation with netbeans 8.2 downloaded from
netbeans.org. I'm currently writing a spring boot application, and so I
have installed the latest version of the gradle and git plugins.

My project consists of 3 projects: core, client and web. core and client
are gradle JAR subprojects that have shared namespaces, e.g. core could
contain org.foo.CoreObject whilst client may contain
org.foo.ClientCoreObject. The web application is the root application,
and depends upon both the core and client JARs.

Once the root web application has been loaded, I can trigger the bug
quite easily by using the autocomplete in the IDE for one of my classes,
e.g. typing

ClassName. (wait for popup list of options, then hit CTRL-space)

And if I keep doing this a few times then I can cause the crash. I've
also attached another trace from gdb by doing the following to catch the
sources of the above errors emitted on the console:

break g_log if log_level == G_LOG_LEVEL_CRITICAL
break g_log if log_level == G_LOG_LEVEL_WARNING
handle SIGSEGV nostop noprint pass

Hello,

thanks for the additional information. As others have pointed out in
this bug report the real culprit is java-atk-wrapper (#858700). You can
currently work around this issue by commenting

#assistive_technologies=org.GNOME.Accessibility.AtkWrapper

in /etc/java-8-openjdk/accessibility.properties

I intend to ask the OpenJDK maintainer to make this the default if the
situation does not improve before the next Debian release.

Markus

Ok...

We'd need to see what assertion fails, its backtrace, and ideally the
backtraces of all threads of the whole process. The problem is that
since it's only "from time to time", and I'm not a user of Netbeans, I
don't really know how to reproduce it, so can't get these backtraces by
myself.

So it's most probably due to libatk-wrapper-java.

Bug#837081: netbeans: Crashes due to assertion failure in GLib

2017-03-03 Thread Markus Koschany
Hello Samuel,

I have received a report for Netbeans which crashes from time to time
with a assertion failure in GLib. I could also confirm the issue on my
computer. Jaime Torres discovered that disabling assistive_technologies
in /etc/java-8-openjdk/accessibility.properties resolved this issue for
him which also works for me.

I remember that we had similar bug reports in the past, crashes due to a
bug in libatk-wrapper-java but I am not 100 % sure if the root cause for
#837081 is in this package again. Do you have any idea why this crash
might happen for Netbeans?

Markus

Thank you for this valuable information. Eventually Netbeans also

Bug#837081: netbeans: Crashes due to assertion failure in GLib

2017-02-21 Thread Jaime Torres
commenting in /etc/java-8-openjdk/accessibility.properties the next line seems
to work:

#assistive_technologies=org.GNOME.Accessibility.AtkWrapper

I figured it out cause I have a computer with netbeans working properly without
any problem with that settings due to a time ago bug that preventing netbeans
to start and another with a fresh debian installation, in the last one,
netbeans closed sundenly when editing in php. Changing that in the new one
seems to work and I have no unexpected close of netbeans.

Hi,

I think the only conclusion we can draw at the moment is that Netbeans
is only affected by a bug in another package. If this happens even with
the "original" Netbeans 8.2 from upstream but not with Oracle JDK, this
indicates that OpenJDK 8 is most likely responsible for the crash but I
can't say for sure without further information, especially some kind of
stack trace or log file.

No, I can't see anything suspicious in your log file. You can open a bug
report against OpenJDK 8 but you need to provide more information how
you trigger this crash.

Markus

2017-02-09 Thread Přemysl Vyhnal
Hi, thanks for your response. Sorry I do not have logs from the version
that is in debian as I use new version downloaded from the website. So the
bug is not necessarily in the debian version (but it may be too). Sorry for
posting it here, I just googled this thread with the similar issue.
Can you recommend me if I can report this issue to OpenJDK or somewhere?
But I probably do not have enough information on what failed in netbeans
and caused the crash. Can anyone see what was the issue from my log even
though it was from non-debian version?
Thank you

Hello,

that was a misunderstanding. You need to attach the log files to this
bug report because upstream won't investigate this bug report as long as
everything works fine with the Oracle JDK. We also need the log files
from Debian's version of Netbeans but you apparently use a different
version because of

Product Version = NetBeans IDE 8.2 (Build 201609300101) (#5fd841261bf9)

in your log file.

This indicates that the bug is very likely in OpenJDK 8 or in one of its
dependencies. I have found [1] in Netbeans' bugtracker, which appears to
confirm my assumption.

Could you attach your log files to this bug report please? They are
located in ~/.netbeans/8.1/var/log/*.log

I see some severe warnings about

java.lang.ClassCastException: sun.awt.image.BufImgSurfaceData cannot be
cast to sun.java2d.xr.XRSurfaceData

This appears to be known upstream as

https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=248774

and is in fact a JDK bug.

However I don't see anything about the reported Glib error and
assertion. Might be something different.

NetBeans 8.1+dfsg3-1 on Debian Stretch also crashes for me and produces the
same terminal output when I enable the Auto Popup on Typing Any Java
Identifier Part and Subword completion options for java code completion.
Running with them disabled does not seem to produce any errors or crashing.

Bug#837081: netbeans: Crashes due to assertion failure in GLib

2016-10-26 Thread Mihail Dakov
Package: netbeans
Version: 8.1+dfsg3-1
Followup-For: Bug #837081

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Normal use of the tool
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I was just typing some code.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
It just crashed. The bad thing is that I lost a lot of code. As this occurs
randomly I
cannot predict it and take some countermeasures to avoid code loss.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Not to crash.

*** End of the template - remove these template lines ***

I see same issue as the initial reporter.
