[Bug 176015] Re: BGP MD5 support regression

2008-05-17 Thread Chuck Short
I have updated the patch from the mailing list. Without this patch
quagga will not work correctly.

TEST CASE:

1. Install quagga.
2. Start quagga to see if the listen socket has the md5 option set.

NOTE: This should be done who has experience with quagga to make sure
that it is working properly. I have added the updated patch.

Thanks
chuck

[Bug 231313] [NEW] [Hardy] /usr/share/doc/apache2/README.Debian is a broken symlink

[Bug 217159] Re: slapd + gnutls fails

2008-05-17 Thread Brian May
There seems to be some confusion here.

TLS_REQCERT on the client tells the client if it should check the server
certificate or not.

This is different whether or not the server checks the client
certificate or not.

I am having problems with the client checking the server certificate
(#231321), where changing TLS_REQCERT will help (but this presumably
will decrease the security because the server certificate is not
checked).

This bug report started of by saying that the server having problems
with the client certificate.

[Bug 231212] Re: UPS services does not autostart during boot.

2008-05-17 Thread Anders Häggström
I have now updated to version 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.1 (amd64) but the upstart
/init-script does not work. Not starting nor stopping the service.
Manual start is still working but is, at least in my case, unwanted.

During boot i get the following (as I also did before this update):
* Starting Network UPS Tools [ OK ]

PS. Why was this bug marked as invalid? Is it a normal behavior for this
software to not start up the service when signaling to do so? A little longer
explanation of this behavior would b nice, thank you.

[Bug 231212] Re: UPS services does not autostart during boot.

2008-05-17 Thread Anders Häggström
I find this bug as a duplicate for Bug #221737 or Bug #222761

In /etc/default/nut i changed this:
# start upsd
START_UPSD=yes
...
# start upsmon
START_UPSMON=yes
and now it works.

Why is the default behavior set not to autostart? And I think it is very
confusing to print Startup OK when the service does not start up
during boot. But now I at least understand why this bug was marked as
invalid.

Anders

It would also be interesting to know what apache modules you have

(i.e. are there many large apache2 processes or only a few very large

You could also try tweaking memory_limit in your php.ini.

[Bug 231313] Re: [Hardy] /usr/share/doc/apache2/README.Debian is a broken symlink

2008-05-17 Thread Jakob Unterwurzacher
Nope - they depend on apache2.2-common, which is all what they need to
 work.

It's some documentation in there that's nice to have (
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/all/apache2/filelist ), but i just
noticed that every file there is duplicated in apache2.2-common (
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/i386/apache2.2-common/filelist ). Which
is a little strange but OK - that way you'll get the documentation even
without apache2.

[Bug 221737] Re: upsd doesn't start on system startup

2008-05-17 Thread Anders Häggström
I agree to Mathias, this is a strange behavior. In my opinion a newly
installed service should autostart, or at least give a hint during
installation that a configuration is needed before it is able to start
up, and a short description how to accomplish that.

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 server (amd64) and nut version 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.1 and
experience this same behavior.
A fix for this bug/behavior could be one of the following:
1) Change the default behavior to autostart the service and change the
startup/init-script to signal No configuration file is found during boot, if
that is the case, and return Failed.
2) Leave a message in the end of the installation that nut needs to be
configured before it can be started, and include the START_UPSD=yes options
in the config-files so you do not have to edit /etc/defaults/nut
3) Change the default behavior to autostart and try to autoconfigure nut during
post-installation, as described in Bug #129523

Note, the following is just a cross-reference to my duplicate: Bug
#231212

In short, the problem:
Connection speed set by the nm-applet is always 1 Mb/s (when it should be 54

The solution:
#sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M (courtesy of Christian Mangold).

Not sure about my exact transfer rates, but my 350MB file is now taking
~6mins vs. 186mins

[Bug 208467] Re: Camera Device button Open F-spot Photo Manager doesn't work

2008-05-17 Thread Michael Ellerman
I did a bit of digging, and wrote a systemtap script to work out what
was happening ... and I think I know what's going on.

Nautilus is launching f-spot, this is configured in from
System-Preferences-File Management, then the Media tab. There is a
drop-down next to Photos, which lets you choose what to do when photos
are found.

On my system there are five options, ask, do nothing, open folder and
Open F-Spot Photo Manager and Open F-Spot Photo Manager. The trick
is that you need to use the second option - it corresponds to
/usr/share/applications/f-spot-import.desktop, which passes the --import
option.

So problem number one is that /usr/share/applications/f-spot-
import.desktop and /usr/share/applications/f-spot.desktop, both have the
name F-Spot Photo Manager - so there's no way to determine which is
which in the Nautilus configuration. That is an f-spot bug. It's fairly
easy to fix just by changing the name to F-Spot Import or something.

The second bug is that f-spot --import with a file:// URI doesn't seem to work.
I can see this from my stap script:
17432 exec f-spot /usr/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe --import file:///media/disk

Which does open f-spot, and even opens the import window, but no
directory is selected. I have to manually select my disk from the drop-
down menu.

Using f-spot --import /media/disk works fine. That also seems to be a
bug in f-spot.

that the bug is considered low priority when it's a show-stopper for

[Bug 207246] Re: Integrate Fedora's One Second X fixes

2008-05-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Wouter,

I did a quick scan through the fedora 9 xserver rpm and didn't see the
shutdown patch, so my guess is that it did in fact make it upstream
(ajax is quite good at putting work into upstream). So I'm 99% sure
we'll automatically pick up the fixes once we incorporate xserver 1.5 in
Intrepid, and can close this bug at that point.

I considered about backports too, but 1.3 seconds off shutdown is
probably not going to strike the SRU team as worth the risk. But maybe
if the patches were quite trivial... It would help to have pointers to
the actual patches.

[Bug 204065] Re: Hardy - severe graphical issues with i945GM graphics

2008-05-17 Thread ferd
Have the same problem on my Toshiba Satellite Pro A110 (has Intel 945 GM
or something).

Here's what I did:

From CD boot the desktop (as if you wanted to try the OS first) not the
installer. You may get a working desktop without font scaling problems
from which you can launch the installer and perhaps successfully install
the OS onto your harddisk(s). Reboot your machine. You may still get a
login manager with improperly scaled fonts. Try to log in even if you
can't see/read your login data. You may again get a proper looking
desktop. Some apps may not work properly - my mythfrontend is squashed
horizontally. Installing the git fix (found elsewhere) fixes the login
manager on my machine but breaks mythfrontend.

Good Luck!

[Bug 175909] Re: Administrator button fails to work in kde-settings and kcontrol

2008-05-17 Thread Richard
I'm using Kubuntu Gutsy, fully updated, and have had this problem since
upgrading from Feisty.

One interesting workaround, though it does require gksudo, is to simply
do: gksudo kcontrol. This generated the following konsole output:

$ gksudo kcontrol
kbuildsycoca running...
ing new authority file /root/.ICEauthority
DCOP Cleaning up dead connections.
kdecore (KProcess): WARNING: _attachPty() 12
QImage::smoothScale: Image is a null image
QImage::smoothScale: Image is a null image
QImage::smoothScale: Image is a null image
$

The 'cleaning up dead connections' part looks interesting After
doing this, the root-owned dcopserver was gone, but more importantly,
future use of kcontrol from the normal menus just works - e.g. on the
Login Manager tool within Kcontrol, the Administrator Mode works
(doesn't prompt as the sudo is established I guess.)

Not sure if I will need to re-do the gksudo invocation every time the
sudo credentials run out, but since gksudo kcontrol could be put in
the KDE menus it may be a better workaround than using Konsole. I would
still really like to see a fix though.

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-05-17 Thread Magnes
RT61 PCI (module rt61pci) on Hardy Heron sometimes (during downloading files
from Internet) crashes Ubuntu. The screen freezes, the keyboard leds - capslock
and numlock - are blinking and there is no response to any button (alt+f1 for
example) or mouse movements.
Also it doesn't always connect, sometimes I need to use sudo
/etc/init.d/networking restart.

[Bug 182403] Re: kdesudo --nonewdcop option breaks the system

2008-05-17 Thread Richard
I found quite a good workaround (gksudo kcontrol) that seems to fix the
DCOP server setup so that plain kcontrol works afterwards - not sure how
long the fix will last though.

See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4977989#post4977989 for
more discussion, and link to another Launchpad bug page with
workarounds.

[Bug 175490] Re: glipper crashed with ValueError in load()

2008-05-17 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
For me the work around of @bullium don't function as the others work arounds
described here.
I think that Glipper still has a problem.
It's not normal that for some users it's ok with a work around, fore some
others with another work around, and for some others Glipper don't function at
all.

My solution is to use Parcellite
(http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php/Parcellite) downloaded from GetDeb.
Parcellite is a very rock solid alternative to Glipper.

[Bug 231302] [NEW] Easy GNOME Nautilus GUI to synchronize data between a remote computer and a local directory

2008-05-17 Thread Sebastien CELLES
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Hello,

Nautilus provide a very usefull interface to mount remote directory
(for example a samba/cifs share)

But sometimes it's very usefull to have a backup of the data
(for example when you are offline).
With Windows XP or Vista (at least Professional version) for example
you can right click on a Network drive to synchronize it.
I think it could be very usefull to provide a GUI for such a feature.
Unison, for example, could be used.
I'm talking about Unison (instead of rsync) because it's bidirectionnal.

Best regards

[Bug 231302] Re: Easy GNOME Nautilus GUI to synchronize data between a remote computer and a local directory

2008-05-17 Thread Sebastien CELLES
I forget to say that the last version of Unison now provide a GTK2 UI so a
piece of code can probably be reused
Moreover an other feature can be add :
detect if user is online or offline (in fact for each share, we have to
detect if this share is available or not)
It means that if a smb share can be mount, this share is considered
online and the computer should ask if I want to synchronize it.

On MS Win, the user can ask to synchronize
at startup or at shutdown

if a share is unavailable at startup, but become available when working on the
deskop
A popup message (at bottom left) appear to ask if you want to be synchronize

[Bug 231293] Re: totem keyboard usage

2008-05-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 175909] Re: Administrator button fails to work in kde-settings and kcontrol

2008-05-17 Thread R (Chandra) Chandrasekhar
It would be interesting to find out if

kdesu kcontrol

had the same beneficial effect:

DCOP Cleaning up dead connections.

I cannot test this since I no longer have this problem, but I believe
that the observation above from Richard holds the clue to the solution.

[Bug 91966] Re: screen artifacts after resume, part row of pixels in error (945GM)

2008-05-17 Thread Jayen
Hey, I'm a debian user, and with xorg's xf86 video intel driver
(versions 2.2.1 and 2.3.1) and using grub2 and using grub2 to have a
splash image, I don't get any real text in my X sessions. Only text
from xterm and xemacs appear. Not windowmaker, gnome, kde, pidgin,
firefox, thunderbird, etc. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can
try, or where I can go for help?

[Bug 231236] Re: libtotem-plparser10 Will not install.

2008-05-17 Thread Arthur
Is there a bug or blueprint for an automatic test which would check the
repositories against these kind of dependency issues and warn the
maintainers? They're a mere annoyance for me but I've had other users
run to me because they felt that they've somehow wrecked their system.
