[Bug 885102] Re: Recovering from hibernate causes reboot
Sorry I haven't had time for this as this occurs on my work computer. I quickly tested the problem again and it seems that it is fixed by some kernel update. For 3.0.0-13-generic the hibernate seems to work now. ** Description changed: What I expected: Computer wakes up after hibernate normally and everything is as it was before hibernating. What happened: When putting computer into hibernate: ata7.01 failed to resume link (SControl0) ata7.02 failed to resume link (SControl0) ata7.03 failed to resume link (SControl0) ata7.04 failed to resume link (SControl0) is printed. Powering up after hibernate does something (reads hard disk at least), but shows only a blank screen. After a while the computer reboots normally (as if it was never hibernated) and everything that was going on before hibernating is lost. [Bug 893821] Re: Shell expansion may allow privilege boundary crossing
sbeattie also pointed out that $(pidof kded4) returning multiple pids could be problematic. And that's true. For example, if I use ssh to access a remote machine, which is using KDE: ganton@t1:~$ pidof kded4 12511 1382 those were two results returned. For more information: ganton@t1:~$ ps aux | grep [1]2511 root 12511 0.0 0.8 79700 5300 ?SDec06 0:07 kdeinit4: kded4 [kdeinit] ganton@t1:~$ ps aux | grep [1]382 ganton1382 0.0 7.1 266424 45632 ?Sl Dec06 0:43 kdeinit4: kded4 [kdeinit] we see that there are two process named kded4, one for root and another for the user ganton. But if something like pgrep -u is used: ganton@t1:~$ pgrep kded4 -u $USER 1382 there is no two results returned problem. I suggest changing those pidof that appear in the code (for example, in the patch). [Bug 901902] Re: Installation creates too many partitions
Hi Kim I think you had 2 bugs: - first is that Windows showed 5 partitions, all primary, because normally a disk can contain only 4 primary partitions. - second is that GRUB install failed. For other people information, but I add a detail that you told me by email : - when I got access to Windows I removed the two partitions that Ubuntu had created - I then set about reinstalling Ubuntu, however when it came to the partitioning choices, I made these manually - I asked for a 5Gb swap and a 60Gb / drive - the install proceeded to the point where GRUB was installing, then stalled -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/901902 Title: Installation creates too many partitions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/901902/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 902074] [NEW] Growl-like indicator bubble clips outside the workspace area when it is first shown after logging in
Public bug reported: I am using the Gnome3-classic desktop environment, and I have noticed a minor bug on my compter. The first time the indicator bubble (that looks like the Growl indicator bubbles on Mac) in the top right corner (after logging in), it clips outside the workspace. About 80% of the bubble is visible, and the rest is outside the workspace. When the indicator bubble is visible next, and subsequent times, it does not clip outside. [Bug 344588]
I am attaching an example of a file that the Xine engine cannot play, but Winamp with Winamp AC3 Filter 1.01a with integrated dts support can. did you delete the example ? winealsa does support 6channels unoffically http://cvs.winehq.org/patch.py?id=13407 I did not delete the example. The file has 5 MB and was not attached when I sent the message. Now I will use a public Ubuntu One link for the example: http://ubuntuone.com/3O64HW4V1L9LxpFbRwNkqH The example has sounds of lighting a match on each 5.1 speaker, and a seventh match heard on all speakers. I succesfully played this in Debian Gnu/Linux on 5.1 speakers only with Amarok with libxine1-ffmpeg installed and in Windows with Winamp having Winamp AC3 Filter plugin. [Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon
As Ubuntu Design Team says - it's only to make the desktop feel consistent. They're worried about what should happen when user clicks on icon which has two windows. This won't minimize and will make users feel confused. But, I simply can't understand HOW this will confuse users. Unity should allow minimizing ONLY when there's ONE window underneath the icon; simply - do something instead of doing absolutely nothing. When there are two windows, Unity currently shows spread and that's perfect. This is simply reducing usability a lot. Justification for backporting: fixing the missing dependency problem allows the users to install and run OpenBVE in a straightforward way without searching for workarounds on the Internet and installing the missing package manually. [Development Fix] The openbve package has been modified by including the missing dependency (libmono-i18n4.0-all) in the Depends: section of the debian/control file. Number of modified packages: 1 (openbve - original version: 1.2.10.0-0ubuntu2, new version: 1.2.10.0-0ubuntu3) [Stable Fix] - The fix is supplied as a debdiff against the original version of OpenBVE in comment #9: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openbve/+bug/86/+attachment/2578094/+files/openbve_1.2.10.0-0ubuntu3.debdiff + The fix is supplied as a debdiff against the original version of OpenBVE in comment #22: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+source/openbve/+bug/86/+attachment/2625704/+files/openbve_1.2.10.0-0ubuntu2.1.debdiff [Test Case] 1) Start from a clean Ubuntu installation. Make sure that the libmono-i18n4.0-all package is not installed on the system. 2) Install OpenBVE by opening a terminal and running: sudo apt-get install openbve 3) Try running OpenBVE from the terminal with the command: openbve The program should display the error message shown at the top of this description (System.NotSupportedException: CodePage 37 not supported) in the terminal itself and the Mono interpreter (cli process) should start looping, eating a single CPU core. The main OpenBVE window should not be shown. 4) Kill the cli process. 5) Install the updated package. apt-get should prompt you to install the missing dependency libmono-i18n4.0-all as well. 6) Try running openbve again from the terminal: the program should run and display the main OpenBVE window. A screenshot of the main OpenBVE windows is provided by the author of the program at http://trainsimframework.org/common/screen_z1.jpg. Please note that, in the Ubuntu version, the command buttons on the left are replaced by option buttons; the rest of the window is the same. [Regression Potential] No potential regressions should occur in OpenBVE itself as no code has been changed. It's possible, however, that other badly-written Mono/.NET programs might be affected by the installation of the new Mono library. ** Description changed: openBVE does not run since I upgraded from Natty a few days ago. [Bug 902077] Re: lucid-precise upgrade holds back X.org video drivers
So, the reason is that xserver-xorg-video-{nv,v4l} do not exist any more, and thus it can't get rid of the xserver-xorg-video-6 provides. For that we need to explicitly conflict to these two to clean these up on upgrade. I propose that -nouveau conflicts: -nv, and -vesa Conflicts: -v4l. Adding them to -video-all also works, but that wouldn't fix the upgrade for people who removed -video-all and only have a few drivers installed. These two extra Conflicts: will fix the upgrade when universe is enabled. If only main and restricted are enabled, the upgrade still fails because a bunch of the older drivers went to universe. I still need to think about/discuss what to do there. ** Also affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/902077 Title: lucid-precise upgrade holds back X.org video drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/902077/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 902077] Re: lucid-precise upgrade holds back X.org video drivers
For the case where only main is enabled, we need to add a quirk to the release upgrader: If universe is not enabled, remove these packages: xserver-xorg-video-apm xserver-xorg-video-ark xserver-xorg-video-chips xserver-xorg-video-i128 xserver-xorg-video-rendition xserver-xorg-video-s3virge xserver-xorg-video-tseng xserver-xorg-video-voodoo These driverse went to universe since lucid. As lucid's -video-all depends on them, we probalby need to do this: - remove xserver-xorg-video-all, and above packages - do release upgrade - reinstall -video-all ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) = Michael Vogt (mvo) ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu Precise) = xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu Precise) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) = Martin Pitt (pitti) ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-vesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-vesa (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-vesa (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-vesa (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) = Martin Pitt (pitti) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/902077 Title: lucid-precise upgrade holds back X.org video drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/902077/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 902095] [NEW] Copying remaining time estimate is not accurate when doing multiple copies
Public bug reported: When you copy two files (or two set of files) from or to the same disk separately, so that you have two copying progress bars and estimates and one copying process is dealing with an amount of data larger than the other, nautilus calculates the estimate as if both copying processes were going to be running simultaneously until copying is complete, which is not true. Once the smaller set of files finishes, the larger one will get its full speed back and finish sooner than the first estimate actually predicted. My suggestion: Nautilus should be aware that the second file copy is slowing the first one down, so it should calculate the first's estimate as something like: estimate for the smaller set of files copy to finish + estimate time to copy the amount of data that will be left when the second process ends at both processes speed combined.
