[Bug 1036834] Re: [FFe] gdb should be marked Multi-arch: allowed

2012-11-06 Thread Colin Watson
Actually, as far as I can tell what happened was that it was rejected
from the release pocket just before release due to not being urgent
enough to hold up 12.04 preparation, with the intent that it should be
re-uploaded as an SRU. Somebody should do that.

---
coreutils (8.13-3.2ubuntu3) raring; urgency=low

  * Add debian/tests/: autopkgtest for running a subset of the upstream tests
against the system installed binaries. The other upstream tests need a
built tree, and are run during package build. (LP: #1073445)
  * Add 01_gnulib-gets.dpatch: Avoid assuming that gets is declared in bundled

[Bug 1075489] Re: Breaks in audio

2012-11-06 Thread Ralf Kistner
I tried both those options, with no difference.

It could also be that my entire system is freezing for a short duration,
and not just the sound. How can I verify this? dmesg doesn't snow
anything when it happens, are there any other logs I can check/enable?

[Bug 1075567] [NEW] Missing pthread related man pages

2012-11-06 Thread Stephen Baynes
Public bug reported:

man pthreads says:
SEE ALSO
   clone(2), futex(2), gettid(2), proc(5), futex(7), sigevent(7),
   signal(7),
and various Pthreads manual pages, for example: pthread_attr_init(3),
   pthread_atfork(3), pthread_cancel(3), pthread_cleanup_push(3),
   pthread_cond_signal(3), pthread_cond_wait(3), pthread_create(3),
   pthread_detach(3), pthread_equal(3), pthread_exit(3),
   pthread_key_create(3), pthread_kill(3), pthread_mutex_lock(3),
   pthread_mutex_unlock(3), pthread_once(3), pthread_setcancelstate(3),
   pthread_setcanceltype(3), pthread_setspecific(3), pthread_sigmask(3),
   pthread_sigqueue(3), and pthread_testcancel(3)

However many of these don't exist. For example:

b:~:504$ man pthread_once
No manual entry for pthread_once
b:~:502$ man pthread_mutex_lock
No manual entry for pthread_mutex_lock
b:~:503$ man pthread_mutex_unlock
No manual entry for pthread_mutex_unlock
b:~:508$ man pthread_setspecific
No manual entry for pthread_setspecific
b:~:513$ man pthread_atfork
No manual entry for pthread_atfork
b:~:516$ man pthread_cond_signal
No manual entry for pthread_cond_signal
b:~:517$ man pthread_cond_wait
No manual entry for pthread_cond_wait

Also though not directly refereneced from there
b:~:520$ man pthread_mutex_init
No manual entry for pthread_mutex_init

Which exists in other places - eg:
http://linux.die.net/man/3/pthread_mutex_lock

[Bug 1075557] Re: Thunar crash when using gvfs

2012-11-06 Thread Lionel Le Folgoc
Hi,

Sorry, we don't handle crash reports for the xfce-4.12 PPA for the moment
(moreover, Thunar 1.5.x is a *development* release and is not in any Ubuntu
release yet).
It's best if you report bugs against Thunar 1.5.x directly on bugzilla.xfce.org
(I've also an account there, so feel free to ask if you need help). Thanks.

(I think you need to use apport-retrace on the apport crash file to
generate a stacktrace usable by the Xfce developers though)

2012-11-06 Thread Markus Burvall
Hello AceLan,

More updates, I uninstalled Windows 7 and installed ubuntu again.

The BT still worked.. but only until I powered off and on the computer.
It seems Windows 7 successfully downloads FW and it stays like that until power
off.

I tried the installation again. All looks goot, but no mention of ar3k
in dmesg.

See attached logs.

Any more ideas?

Best Regards, Markus

[Bug 1075579] [NEW] Options during backup aren't completely readable

2012-11-06 Thread Robin
Public bug reported:

This is affecting German users of GNOME, using 12.04.1 LTS:

~ Organise your Backups with Déjà Dup
~ Restart the computer
~ Look at the message, in the GNOME notification task bar: You can select
Forts…, Spät… or Date…. Especially by the last one, there could be
multiple meanings. A picture of the message is in the attachment.

The first thing would be that Fortsetzen in place of Fort… is viewed (there
is enough place),
the second would be that Später in place of Spät… is viewed (there is
enough place for one more character),
the third and last thing would be that someone find an other translation of
this option. (If the meaning is: Datensicherung abbrechen [cancel Backup], I
would suppose: Abbrechen [cancel])

message, possible my oldest time installed Ubuntu 12.04 system have a problem:

future version. If you rely on the current behaviour, change it to './/object'

Reproducation steps:
1. Install nanny package.
2. If you using GNOME3 fallback session, launch parental control preference
tool in System ToolsAdministration submenu. Alternative, you run gksu
nanny-admin-console or sudo nanny-admin-console command in GNOME Terminal.

In quantal or 13.04 repository es the nanny package already not
awailable, perhaps stopped the development this application.

I only want trying this application because I editing a hungarian
tutorial book and not very need me the parental control feature, but
possible other users need this function with have childrens.

[Bug 1075405] Re: Sound Only From Right Speaker after Upgrade

2012-11-06 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Under All Settings Sound Speakers Mode

Analog Surround 4.0 Output is a selectable option, but Analog Stereo
Output is selected.

Pulse Audio too, allows me to select surround, and it seems to work
about the same, but either way, sound is only coming through my right
speaker; that's the issue.

Again, I didn't have this issue in Ubuntu 12.04, but do now in 12.10.

[Bug 1075581] [NEW] updatebase passes invalid flags to apt-get update

2012-11-06 Thread Trevor Adams
Public bug reported:

1) Precise
2) 3.4.8ubuntu2
3) updatebase should run apt-get update with proper flags
4) updatebase runs apt-get as follows:

export aptopt='-y -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-confdef -o
Dpkg::Options::=--force-confold'
$ROOTCMD apt-get $aptopt update

Which result in invalid Dpkg::Options as they are double quoted,
removing the quotes solves the problem. As a result of this apt-get
update only downloads the system architecture packages, instead of both
the system and the foreign architectures.

[Bug 1074783] Re: ArtDio NB-005B USB Speakers Stopped Working in Ubuntu 12.10

2012-11-06 Thread David Henningsson
the USB Device 0x46d:0x821 device is probably a webcam or similar
device, from which you cannot play back.

As for the USB speakers - I don't know what's causing it, but there was
some refactoring in the 3.5 kernel of the usb-audio driver. It might be
worth to try a later kernel, and if that does not help, reporting the
issue upstream at the alsa-devel mailinglist.

Bug filed with other package.

I was aware the quotes were creating the problem but exactly how I
wasn't sure. It just seemed odd that it would continue in the presence
of the error with no notification and not do what was expected.

[Bug 1075568] Re: after upgrade to kubuntu 12.10 no soundcard detected

2012-11-06 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the
other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next
to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1069498]

2012-11-06 Thread Ralf Jung
What's the way to go forward here? I think the most interesting question
is: Is it acceptable/a good idea to rely on the driver re-using the
backbuffer? The extension
https://www.opengl.org/registry/specs/EXT/glx_buffer_age.txt would
actually allow KWin to know when a backbuffer is re-used, but it is not
implemented in Mesa 8.

Looking at other compositors, if I understand the Clutter code properly
it performs a full-screen redraw each time. By only adding the full
screen to the damage area very late in KWin's paintSimpleScreen (after
calling prePaintWindow), I was able to significantly boost the
performance even with a full-screen blur region: It's ~45fps now. Maybe
the blur effect can be further optimized.

Weston seems to rely on backbuffer re-usage. It does not copy front-
buffer pixels to the backbuffer though, but instead keeps track of a
damaged region for each backbuffer (which, however, is equivalent to
remembering the last two or three damages) to know what to actually re-
paint. The problem is that KWin has effect plugins, which can extend to
the damaged region, so it is not straight forward to implement that
here: We need a place where the full region that will be re-painted for
the current frame is known, but nothing has been drawn yet so the region
to be re-drawn can be extended arbitrarily. I implemented this locally,
the observable behaviour is similar to the copy from frontbuffer patch
- I am unsure which version is preferable, but extending the re-drawn
area sounds cleaner to me (with my very limited GLX/OpenGL
experience...).

[Bug 1069498]

2012-11-06 Thread Mgraesslin
I think following Weston's approach is probably the best one as I assume that
Kristian knows what is best with Mesa's drivers.

We should know the actual damage area after the effects have modified it, once
it goes back into the scene. So it should be possible to keep a queue of the
last frames damage areas.

Btw. we have quite some time to get it right as I think that's already too
late for 4.10 (we are past soft feature freeze).

I will open a review request later today.

I think I found the right spot in paintSimpleScreen. If not, you'll probably
complain during review ;-)

So you think this is a feature? That's not for me to decide, of course.
Do you think a simpler patch which just fixes tearing for full-screen repaints
could still go into 4.10? Something similar to Thomas' first patch
(https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/106833/).

So you think this is a feature?
It's not really a feature, neither really a bug fix. It changes the way how we
render and it could introduce regressions for non-Mesa drivers, which is why I
might consider it as a feature. In the end it depends on how the code looks
like.

And tear-free is a feature, isn't it ;-)

FTR: the nvidia blob is the one driver for which glWaitVideoSync is
broken ever since.

With the slight refactor of the Hanukka patch it should be possible to
preserve the old behavior and introduce the buffer copying as option
(even secretly, ie. w/o GUI ;-)

@Ralf
The major aspect in your patch is the inverted damage calculation, correct?

2012-11-06 Thread Ralf Jung
Has 1 bug less is also a feature... ;-)

But I agree it needs thorough testing. I'll split the patch into two,
one which I consider safe, and one with the actual always page-flip
magic. You can find the review request at
https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/107194/ .

(In reply to comment #69)
 @Ralf
The major aspect in your patch is the inverted damage calculation, correct?
In the one I posted here, right. That was necessary to get 60fps during video
playback. I think the problem was that your patch always copied loads of stuff
back after the swapping, even if most of that would be overwritten by the next
frame. That's avoided by my inverted logic.
The patch I submitted for review however works completely different, it makes
sure the actual rendering is done on the slightly larger area to fix the
current backbuffer. That's the approach taken by Weston as well. It kind of
replaces pixel copying by texture drawing - I don't know which is faster ;-) .
It also tries to inject the additional damage late in the drawing process, so
that caching effects (like the blur effect) only get the real damage.

[Bug 1075260] Re: no error or warning shown when dpkg --print-foreign-architectures fails (e.g. with invalid DPkg::options)

2012-11-06 Thread David Kalnischkies
The code isn't throwing errors as it doesn't know if dpkg supports this
option and therefore it is a perfectly fine case to get a non-zero exit
here. At the time the code was written there was simple no way of
detecting it, now there is dpkg --assert-multi-arch but that isn't
supported by all dpkg's which support --print-foreign-architectures, so
we just don't bother to try for now as it introduces more problems than
it solves.
