[Bug 1060760] Re: Hot plug and unplug causes system hangs
Chun-Hung Chen, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc6 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Bug 1062796] Re: 05e3:070e usb-storage devices don't work, unless plugged in *after* booting - happens when setting MODULES=dep in initramfs.conf
** Description changed: Hopefully I have time to root-cause this. We have two Kubuntu 12.04 LTS machines. One of them has a USB card reader, which we want to leave permanently attached. We use it to upload photos to Digikam several times a month. Recently we noticed the card reader not working. It showed up in lsusb, BUT ls /dev/sd* showed only one device (the internal hard drive). WORKAROUND: Unplugging the entire card reader and plugging it back in again fixes it. WORKAROUND: The following fixed it without re-plugging the cardreader: modprobe usb-storage + + WORKAROUND: This was caused by my enabling MODULES=dep in /etc + /initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf. Changing it back to MODULES=most fixes + it (and adds back 2 seconds to the boot time). [Bug 1265283] [NEW] Doesn't work on i5-4670 but works for i7-4770
Public bug reported: Hi, I'm having problems with i5 opengl graphics. It seems to not work for i5-4670 but works for i7-4770. Even though in the specs they both have HD4600 graphics. To reproduce... * Run the genymotion android emulator. * Then I run this game(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kabam.doamobilehl=en). I get a blank top and bottom section in the app and various things in the main section is missing too. The game is written in Unity3d. So it may affect other Unity3d apps too. Happens on... * I have two i5-4670 CPUs and they have the same problem. * I've tried it on Ubuntu 13.10 and Ubuntu 13.04, same problem. * There is no problem with an i7-4770 CPU, using the same motherboard. * It works on Radeon and nVidia cards. Are there any settings that I can try out to fix this? The software is here... https://app.box.com/s/8u3rmepuc32coxu5rwwy * Uncompress genymotion_x64.tar.bz2 anywhere and run the genymotion file. * Unzip dot_genymotion.tar.bz2 to your home directory. * Create new emulator and install the game. [Bug 1251441] Re: [Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T900] Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend
Okay, this is interesting. I found that I can confirm this bug on Saucy using the 3.8.13.12 mainline kernel version, which according to http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/info/kernel-version-map.html is equivalent to the 3.8.0-34.49 kernel I used in my test of updated Raring (and there was no bug there). I expected the 3.8.13.13 kernel to exhibit the bug (it does as well) and the 3.8.13.12 kernel to not show it based on what I saw in Raring, so this surprised me. Is it possible that this bug is not due to the kernel? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1251441 Title: [Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T900] Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1251441/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1243693] Re: RT3290 12.04 new kernel
Hello Christopher In principle I am of course willing to do this test. But since this test will take quite some time I would first like to understand whether there is really a possibilitiy that the new kernel fixes this issue. Facts: * Ralink RT 3290 works for me under .54, .55, and .56 (after having applied a workaround). * the RT module is compiled for every new kernel. * The kernels and the RT module are not incompatible as such o the issue was caused by changes in the kernel HEADER files o the inline function kmalloc_array in the kernel header file slab.h competes with an identical definition in the RT driver. o hence the re-compilation for new kernels fails (THIS IS A SIMPLE syntax error) o I described the details under https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-certification/+question/238136 To fix this, several solution could be applied 1. undo the change in the kernel header file slab.h - I doubt that this has been done 2. re-engineer the RT sources so that I can be successfully compiled - since this an OEM module: I doubt that this has been done 3. introduce natural support of the RALINK HW so that the OEM module is not needed anymore. Has either of the three options above been implemented? Otherwise I doubt that testing the new kernel makes sense. Am 01.01.2014 01:16, schrieb Christopher M. [Bug 1227769] Re: [mako] No audio in the headphones with a two pins jack unless plugged in after the call
I was able to reproduce this one today. The port switch (to headphones) is failing on kernel level with the following message: Slim close tx/rx wait timeout (and subsequent follow-up errors). I suspect another 'feature' of Qualcomm's kernel driver is that you can't switch ports while PCMs are running, or you'll get the error message above. You are technically wrong. 1) As I said in comment #17, at one point, using the same hardware and the same BIOS, it used to work. So, it is *not* necessary to update the BIOS to fix this issue. 2) Updating a BIOS is a potentially risky operation as it can brick my *work* laptop. [Bug 1036102] Re: Card reader not working on Dell Inspiron M301Z
Julien Olivier, thank you for your comments regarding them https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1036102/comments/32 : This bug existed a long time ago, then got fixed, and then came back again. So, that means that this is not a hardware bug or a BIOS bug. If this has been fixed before, this can be fixed again. This is a flawed argument. Just because your card reader functionality changed dependent on linux version, doesn't mean it's not dependent on the BIOS. Regarding https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1036102/comments/34 : You are technically wrong. 1) As I said in comment #17, at one point, using the same hardware and the same BIOS, it used to work. So, it is *not* necessary to update the BIOS to fix this issue. See above. 2) Updating a BIOS is a potentially risky operation... There is always a risk in everything. However, regarding BIOS updates, this risk is largely non-existent if you plug your laptop into the power supply, and keep it plugged in for the duration (~1 minute). ...as it can brick my *work* laptop. While it is understood this laptop is a work one, it doesn't change the dynamic of the situation. If your computer is not yours, but provided by your employer, your company's IT department would do it for you. Regarding https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1036102/comments/36 : I am trying to help Ubuntu by reporting bugs on my free time. I also help Ubuntu on my free time. This is benevolent help, and that is supposed to be welcome. It is quite welcomed by the entire Ubuntu Community. However, nobody is going to be pleased to have an undue burden placed on developer resources when one insists on their problem being worked on, without updating the BIOS, as noted above. You, on the other side, are dismissing that work using a destructive attitude. Please do throw unfounded accusations around, as it's rude. Given I've previously provided you all the documentation on how to update your BIOS, and why this is requested, from both kernel developers and the Ubuntu Community, your resistance to updating would be the destructive component of this discussion. As well, please stop creating unnecessary duplicate reports, and then unmarking them. The discussion can continue on your master report here, so that it may be easily followed.
