[Bug 2063456] Re: package cephadm: dependency "cephadmlib" missing

2024-05-11 Thread James Page
Updates are prepped but currently blocked by a broken snappy in oracular
- the fix for that is pending review in Debian (as it creates a
transition requirement) at which point we should be able to proceed with
the required updates for the SRU to noble as well.

Please note that the packages in Noble are a snapshot, not the final
release for Squid.

[Bug 2065512] [NEW] QT Applications don't respond to virtual keyboard and wacom mouse wheel events

2024-05-11 Thread theofficialgman
Public bug reported:

scroll wheel events generated from the xorg joystick input driver and
wacom mouse wheel are working in non qt5 application (eg: gtk), but not
in qt5 (so all kde plasma5) applications.

This is a long reported upstream QT5 regression (it worked in QT4) and I
am reporting it here to see if others are running into this issue in
their use cases.

Affects all QT5 versions (and likely QT6 though I have not checked).

Upstream bug report: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-47727

[Bug 2065511] [NEW] Android Studio and Files (file manager) flicker

2024-05-11 Thread David Aleksanyan
Public bug reported:

Since the last kernel update to version .28, I've been experiencing
extreme flickering in Android Studio and other apps. This prompted me to
update most of my software, including Nvidia drivers, which didn't
resolve the issue.

Downgrading to the previous kernel version .26 during startup eliminates
the issue.

Additionally, there is a lag in the Terminal, which I'm not sure is
related, but it also doesn't occur on the previous kernel.

[Bug 2061929] Re: Python docker package does not import, crashes due to urllib3 upgrade

2024-05-11 Thread A. Karl Kornel
Looking around, I found an upstream (Debian) bug report related to this:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1065926

Debian hasn't switched their default Python to 3.12 yet, but it looks
like that's in work, and so this issue will appear there.

I'll email the Debian bug, letting them know about the issue here.

Jonas, you're right that moving to a newer usptream is probably the
best. Unfortunately I don't know the policies here: Maybe the MOTU
folks will want Debian to move first?

[Bug 2065506] [NEW] Speaker latency/delay when playing sound

2024-05-11 Thread Matthieu Dufour
Public bug reported:

The speakers seem to suffer from a distinct latency problem, where
whenever I play something (it can be a YouTube or Reddit video, in
Firefox, but also the test sound samples in settings), nothing comes out
for the first 1-2 seconds, then I hear a distinct "click" sound coming
from the (first left, then right) speakers, then the sound plays
normally.

It's as if the speaker where in "sleep mode," and whenever I play
something, they first need to wake up and starts playing the actual
sound.

Did not happened on other distros (Debian 12 or Fedora 39).

2024-05-11 Thread David Huggins-Daines
Sure, no problem at all! Thanks for the gracious reply, sorry about my
frustration this morning.

You can see the problem with this dotfile by running these commands - the
figure will obviously be clipped (it should have 9 nodes but you can only
see 6):

dot -Tsvg fst.dot
open fst.svg

I've attached the resulting SVG file as well. Note also that if you render
to PDF, PNG, etc, you won't see the clipping.

2024-05-11 Thread Steve Langasek

That is not an accurate description of the events here. This was an issue
introduced in mutter 45.2-0ubuntu4 and 42.9-0ubuntu7. The only subsequent
versions of this package in official sources are 42.9-0ubuntu7.1 (which was
just published by the security team), and 45.2-0ubuntu5 nd 42.9-0ubuntu8
which are the fixes that have just been accepted into the -proposed pocket.

A fix in a test ppa is not an "official" source.

[Bug 2065499] [NEW] [UX430UAR, Realtek ALC294, Speaker, Internal] fails after a while

2024-05-11 Thread Vikram John
Public bug reported:

The sound fades off after initially playing for about 2s. In Firefox, sometimes
if I pause a Youtube video, switch between applications, and then return to
Firefox, the same things repeats. The sound plays for 2s and then stops. In
Rhythmbox, after it stops, the sound doesn't play again. The initial response
after the first time I ran "ubuntu-bug audio" was:
Not loading module "atk-bridge": The functionality is provided by GTK natively.
Please try to not load it.

After this message, I executed:
sudo apt purge libatk-adaptor
sudo reboot

But the problem recurs and now, I don't get the message about the atk-
bridge module.

[Bug 2015017] Re: scaling is wrong in SVG output

2024-05-11 Thread Dave Jones
I quite understand the frustration with something that appears to be
abandoned. However, in this case it seems it was actually down to some
confusion over the versioning scheme which changed upstream from Debian
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=980900 has the gory
details). It also seems that Debian's now got a new watch file and
version 11 is now in experimental, so I'm hoping that'll migrate to
unstable at some point and we'll pick up a modern version for oracular.

Anyway, back to the fix at hand -- this definitely needs patching in
oracular, noble, mantic, and jammy at the very least. Unfortunately your
branch appears to have diff-markers embedded in it, so I can't accept it
directly, but the patch is trivial enough I can just apply it to the
package directly. I'll target this to the affected releases and start
the SRU process once this is in oracular.

[Bug 2063332] Re: Ubuntu 24.04 Wayland and Qt5 (regression - worked in Ubuntu 22.04)

2024-05-11 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
> Only the third one is not working (Shift+Alt+F7). Maybe that is
because Alt+F7 is toggling moving windows in GNOME. Replacing F7 with F9
makes it work fine too.

Follow-up on this: I tried in a different desktop environment (GNOME
Flashback with Metacity) and Shift+Alt+F7 is working fine there. So it's
not a problem in Qt, but rather depending on the desktop.

[Bug 2063332] Re: Ubuntu 24.04 Wayland and Qt5 (regression - worked in Ubuntu 22.04)

2024-05-11 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
So, three of four problems are solved by installing qgnomeplatform-qt5.

Today I looked at the remaining problem: the shortcuts. I made a small
test program (attached) that registers the three combinations you
mentioned, and tested it on Ubuntu 24.04.

For me, the first two combinations (Ctrl+Period and Ctrl+~) work fine.
Only the third one is not working (Shift+Alt+F7). Maybe that is because
Alt+F7 is toggling moving windows in GNOME. Replacing F7 with F9 makes
it work fine too.

If Ctrl+Period and Ctrl+~ combinations do not work in some of the apps,
please tell me what exactly are those apps.

To build my test program, you can install g++ and qtbase5-dev packages,
and then run this command:

g++ main.cpp -o main -fPIC -I/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5
-lQt5Widgets -lQt5Gui -lQt5Core

[Bug 2065491] Re: [BPO] far2l/2.6.0~beta+ds-1ubuntu0.1 from noble-updates

2024-05-11 Thread Thomas Ward
"Convenient applicatiom used by server admins" - a little info here on
what it does and WHY it would be useful in older LTSes is important. As
well as why "other functionality" isn't sufficient, in order to justify
the backport.

We also need confirmation that the package works as is when backported,
and you need to either be willing to update/maintain the backport or
upload with or without a sponsor the package. The Backports team does
not take those responsibilities on itself.

This just happened to me. Running Ubuntu 23.10. I believe it was
shortly after I installed an update and chose to reboot. CPU fan was
working hard so I shut down all programs, but it wouldn't stop. Ran
htop and saw cups-browsed using 100% of 1 cpu, so I kill -9'd it and all

[Bug 1915635] Re: Update graphviz to latest version

2024-05-11 Thread David Huggins-Daines
Delete "me too" comment that was me-tooing myself and perhaps too
flamey.

But the question remains...

At the very least you (or Debian) could upgrade to 2.42.4, released
(checks calendar) four years ago, which fixes a bunch of bugs and is not
even a *minor* release: https://forum.graphviz.org/t/graphviz-
version-2-42-4-has-been-released/17

It's pretty hard to find it on Graphviz website/gitlab (because, like,
four years!) but here, I found it:
https://gitlab.com/graphviz/graphviz/-/releases/2.42.4

[Bug 2023424] Re: GCC 13 on Lunar exhibits AddressSanitizer/UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer bug that doesn't manifest elsewhere

2024-05-11 Thread Dimitry Andric
Ok, I found https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=110027 :
"[11/12 regression] Stack objects with extended alignments (vectors etc)
misaligned on detect_stack_use_after_return".

As described in that bug, turning _off_ the ASAN_OPTION
detect_stack_use_after_return makes the misalignment go away:

$ ~/ins/gcc-13-103-gf732bf6a603/bin/gcc -fsanitize=address -fstack-
protector asan-align.c -o asan-align

$ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/ubuntu/ins/gcc-13-103-gf732bf6a603/lib64 ./asan-align
explicitly aligned variable: 0x7f6c6f100020
asan-align: asan-align.c:11: main: Assertion `addr % 64 == 0' failed.
Aborted

$ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/ubuntu/ins/gcc-13-103-gf732bf6a603/lib64
ASAN_OPTIONS="detect_stack_use_after_return=false" ./asan-align
explicitly aligned variable: 0x7ffe189ec4c0

The fix for master (14.x) is in
https://gcc.gnu.org/git/gitweb.cgi?p=gcc.git;h=467898d513e602f5b5fc4183052217d7e6d6e8ab,
while it was merged to 13.x in
https://gcc.gnu.org/git/gitweb.cgi?p=gcc.git;h=a16d90ec302e588dab5d7d31ccdd7b3fd5c6214e
.

I think it should be relatively safe to apply this patch to Ubuntu's gcc
packages?

This may be because of AppArmor restrictions. Can you try to disable
AppArmor using these commands and see if it helps?

sudo sysctl -w kernel.apparmor_restrict_unprivileged_unconfined=0
sudo sysctl -w kernel.apparmor_restrict_unprivileged_userns=0

To re-enable it back, you can use the same commands but with 1 instead
of 0.

Update on Jammy yesterday installed libmutter version 42.9-0ubuntu7.1

[Bug 1915635] Re: Update graphviz to latest version

2024-05-11 Thread David Huggins-Daines
I'm going to be super annoying and add a me too comment here.

It's really unacceptable that Ubuntu and Debian continue to publish a
version *THAT IS NOT EVEN AVAILABLE UPSTREAM ANYMORE*.

What is the hold-up here? Is there some serious problem with the more
recent versions? If so please say what it is.

Is it just lack of resources? If so, sorry to be a pest. For what it's
worth I did in fact contribute a fix to the problem which bothers me the
most...

[Bug 2015017] Re: scaling is wrong in SVG output

2024-05-11 Thread David Huggins-Daines
I hate to be a jerk but it's been almost a year, and I even provided a
complete fix and patch.

Meanwhile, *Graphviz no longer even publishes the source code for
version 2.42.2* This would seem to be a serious Debian policy
violation! The bug HAS BEEN FIXED UPSTREAM FOR FOUR YEARS NOW.

Either apply this patch or update the Graphviz packages, or find someone
who will do it, please, please, please.

2024-05-11 Thread Paul White
Closing as 'Invalid' - there is no release or desktop environment
information included and nothing for a developer to use when attempting
to fix any issue, problem or bug that you might be experiencing.

When using Ubuntu please use

   ubuntu-bug gimp

in a terminal to report any problems you find as it will automatically
gather debugging information and provide useful information to those
that can fix issues, bugs and reported problems.

[Bug 1942616] Re: Settings Power says high hardware temperature

2024-05-11 Thread Mario Limonciello
This sure sounds like an intel-pstate bug. If you can reproduce it with
the latest mainline kernel you should file a bug with the intel-pstate
maintainers.

You can find some kernel binaries for mainline kernel here:

[Bug 2065180] Re: performance regression in dracut-install

2024-05-11 Thread Dave Jones
@viraniac well, you're absolutely right! Same SD card with a fresh noble
install, running on a Pi 4, first stock and second with a downgraded
dracut from mantic:

Pi 4B, stock -- 03:05
Pi 4B, downgrade -- 01:10

That is a pretty substantial regression, and diff'ing the initrds once
more showed they're basically identical in content (unsurprisingly), so
it's not writing any less. I wonder if it's added some sync points or
something similar.

[Bug 2064492] Re: failed to execvp: /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/qt5/libexec/QtWebEngineProcess

2024-05-11 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
One more idea (thanks Alfred from #ubuntu-qt). Can you please:

- Install strace package (if not installed yet).
- Run "strace -f akregator &>strace.txt" and wait for it to crash (it will be
slow when running in strace).
- Either attach strace.txt here, or find the exit code of execve in the output
and tell it.

For example, I have this:

[pid 2383148]
execve("/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/libexec/QtWebEngineProcess",
["/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/li"..., "--type=zygote", "--no-zygote-sandbox",
"--application-name=simplebrowser", "--webengine-schemes=qrc:sLV",
"--lang=en"], 0x55898c63de80 /* 69 vars */
[pid 2383148] <... execve resumed>) = 0

[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"

2024-05-11 Thread Mark Erbaugh
Thanks Deku.

With just a very quick test (applied then rebooted), the snippet posted
above seems to be working for me with Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS.

I had to add the apt option --allow-downgrades

[Bug 2064930] Re: dnsmasq cannot execute at systemctl

2024-05-11 Thread Nick Sillito
Thanks for checking, just looking through your output, you have the same
issue as me (just before the Processing.theiggers for man-db) you have
the message 'Could not execute systemctl: at /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke
line 148.'

Having dug a bit further, this is because dnsmasq cannot listen on port
53 (resolv is already listening here). Disabling resolv solves the
issue, so I think that the only issue here is that the error message
isn't very clear (at lease to me)

How on Earth did this get SNAFU'd again 

My goodness.
First time I've experienced broken --> fixed --> broken (in exact manner as

Here's the "fix" snippet folks:

[Bug 2064492] Re: failed to execvp: /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/qt5/libexec/QtWebEngineProcess

2024-05-11 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Thank you!

These errors are quite expected, they are because you run
QtWebEngineProcess outside of the application. Unfortunately, they do
not explain why the applications fail to launch this subprocess.

Also I compared the CPU flags with ones that I have on Debian’s ARM64
porterbox, and your system is missing only one (ssbs — Speculative Store
Bypass Safe), but it should not be related.

Any ideas what else could be missing are welcome.

[Bug 2023424] Re: GCC 13 on Lunar exhibits AddressSanitizer/UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer bug that doesn't manifest elsewhere

2024-05-11 Thread Dimitry Andric
I bisected, and it seems to have regressed with
https://gcc.gnu.org/git/?p=gcc.git;a=commit;h=f732bf6a603721f61102a08ad2d023c7c2670870
["libsanitizer: merge from upstream
(0a1bcab9f3bf75c4c5d3e53bafb3eeb80320af46].

Unfortunately, that is a fairly large merge from the upstream sanitizer
libraries, so it is not that easy to pinpoint where the culprit is.

I tried very recent gcc master, and there the test with
-fsanitize=address -fstack-protector even segfaults! So I guess an
upstream gcc bug report is probably the best way forward.

Hello JK (m0d), same sad behavior.
Why i can't just downgrade 1 package via...
`sudo apt install libmutter-10-0=42.9-0ubuntu7vv1`
Many gnome packages will be removed after this downgrade.

May be someone have another solution for do this safely?

[Bug 2065074] Re: WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone. «Soft blocks» for Bluetooth only.

2024-05-11 Thread Bas Roufs
UPDATE AND SUMMARY 11 MAY 2024, 12.00 CEST.

Be reassured. Right now, I am writing this message under my veranda in my
garden, while using Wi-Fi. Thanks God, this is possible now. Hallelujah! The
core issue in this context is a tiny switch at the left front side of my laptop
- Lenovo X230, product Name: 2325AZ8, Serial Number: R9XTT6X. I bought this
device late March 2024. Then, I thought the switch was related to opening and
closing the lid of the laptop. After watching one of the videos you showed me
yesterday, it became clear to me that the switch was related to turning off and
on Wi-Fi. The hard block has been caused by the switch in the off position. The
devil is in the detail.

About Bluethooth... I have checked this page

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1465957/bluetooth-manager-not-
connecting-to-devices-after-upgrading-to-ubuntu-23-04

This story is a good summary of my Bluethooth experience about one month
ago, when I was still at Kubuntu 22.04.4 LTS along with the same laptop
at which I am working now. Also in my case, connections with «trusted»
devices were constantly being interrupted. I have carried out the
advises I found there - however, it does not or not yet work out.

Like this, I have tried to get rid of the «soft block» that still
prevents Bluetooth from working properly.

bas@Camino:~$ rfkill unblock 0
bas@Camino:~$

Let's test now...

bas@Camino:~$ rfkill list
0: tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: Bluetooth
    Soft blocked: yes
    Hard blocked: no
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: no

Wi-Fi is absolutely fine now. Bluetooth - no hard block, but the «soft»
block still persists.

Now, I try this

Systemsettings -> "Bluetooth" -> "Enable"
and then either "Add New Device…" or "Configure…".

I also tried the same by clicking the Bluethooth applet right down
under.

In both case: no success yet. I have tried to enable Bluetooth several
times like this. Now, I had a device with me I wanted to add
However, I already get stuck when trying to enable Bluetooth. «Adding a
new device» is still not possible.

Provisional conclusion for now Wi-Fi works absolutely fine now. No hard
blocks and also no soft blocks.
The hard blocks have been removed for Bluethooth too. However, I still do not
yet manage to get Bluethooth enabled by lifting it's «soft» blacks.

** Summary changed:

- WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone.
«Soft blocks» for Bluetooth only.
+ WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone,
WiFi works OK now. «Soft blocks» still disable Bluetooth.

[Bug 2065476] [NEW] During boot, after grub selection screen, it appears "error: sparse file not allowed - Aborted. Press any key to exit."

2024-05-11 Thread vimo
Public bug reported:

After updating Xubuntu 23.10 to version 24.04, during boot, after
selecting the Xubuntu version from the Grub screen, I get the error:

"error: sparse file not allowed
452: out of range pointer: 0x54b42620
Aborted. Press any key to exit".

Searching online it seems that this problem is linked to btrfs file
systems, but I only have Ext4 file systems.

Some online guides suggest editing the /etc/default/grub file by placing entries
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=false
GRUB_DEFAULT=0

and then run "update-grub", but this solution didn't work.

When the error appears, pressing a key will boot the system normally.

[Bug 2064177] Re: Window borders and shadows missing from GTK3 dialogs

2024-05-11 Thread Vitaly Akulin
I have also encountered this issue. Also Telegram (flatpak) and GIMP
applications have no border/shadow, and I couldn't resize windows by
dragging the border. Log out and log in again fixes it, but after
restarting the system it's broken again.

[Bug 2063464] Re: systemd-resolved wasn't installed on upgrade from Jammy to Noble

2024-05-11 Thread Andreas Schildbach
It's not clear to me how to test this package in the context of a `do-
release-upgrade`. I tried both `-d` and `-p` to another minimal Jammy
server install, but it both denied an upgrade with this message:

```
$ sudo do-release-upgrade -d
Checking for a new Ubuntu release
There is no development version of an LTS available.
To upgrade to the latest non-LTS development release
set Prompt=normal in /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades.
```

The upgrade that caused this bug report (see "original report") was done
using `-d` – this doesn't work any more at the moment.
