[Bug 1056147] [NEW] Deja Dup whould use inotify (or Zeitgeist) to be more efficient.

2012-09-25 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

One of the most annoying things with Deja Dup on my laptop are that
every time I boot it, for the first hour it works with deja dup /
duplcity to check what was changed since last time before the actual
backup takes place. During this time half of the CPU capacity and a
large amount of IO are taken for the task. Backup are important and a
wonderful peice of software as deja dup / duplicty takes a hit by this,
and may be interupted to many times when the load stops normal work.

You have certenly got this question many times, inotify-system have been
around for a long time now. With inotify we can get a message when a
file are changed and take action. For example we can build a small list
of what files are changed since last backup and use this instead of the
time consuming task to check every file in the file system with the
remote backup. With this list we can use --include-files-directive in
dublicity and start copying directly. Or we can implement continuis
backup, start backing up every changed file at the time the user has
closed it (or wait a couple of minutes not to build a long queue of
backups when the user changes the file eventy minute or so).

There are alot of pros using inotify (or incron), one of the bad thing
that has bo be solved are that we have to let kernel listen at all
directories in a directory structure. Now we only have to configure for
example /home/user-directory to include all sub directories for that
user. So we need a mechanism that builds a list of directories for
inotify including changes over time.

Another solution would be to use Zeitgeist and listen for changed files
using dbus. The upside whould be that deja dup can use the same privacy
configuration that Zeitgeist uses not to distribute secret files to the
backup site. Ive been programming with inotify and know there are no
overhead and its very easy to handle, but I don't have the same
experience of Zeitgeist api so I can't tell if its easy or not.

[Bug 933989] [NEW] Shotwell ignores RAW (.RW2) files when fetching pictures from Panasonic Lumix

2012-02-16 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

RAW files are left on the card after an import. When raw files are
manually copied to a directory that Shotwell listens to, the files are
recognized and added to the repository. At this time shotwell add these
files as doubles, the JPEG file and the RAW-files as two seperate
photographs and creates a new event at the same day.

I have tested Shotwell with Panasonic Lumix G3 and reading the SD-card
directly.

[Bug 361623] Give her heat she wants

2011-07-08 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Normally, men have 3 to 5 erections per night, each lasting up to 30 minutes.
Do you?

Dear 361623,

Even if your sex life is already rich and fulfilling... Imagine you had a
little more energy... if your erections stayed harder... or you could go just a
little longer...
Or maybe you worry, when you climb under the covers, that youre starting
something you cant finish?
Well, now advancements in natural medicine are making it easier than ever to
promote a strong libido, firm, natural erections and enhanced desire.

Now thanks to this exciting natural breakthrough, you could get an erection on
demand and when you do, sustain it long enough and keep firm enough to
fully satisfy your wife in bed. Even if youre in your 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or
older!

As a doctor, Ive learned something over the years that may surprise you age
has very little to do with sex. There are men out there having the best sex of
their lives well into their 80th year and beyond.

And those men have three key things in common that their sex starved friends
dont:
Hard, recurring erections...
Heightened desire and stamina...
And a reproductive system that could be functioning at the top of its game...

   Lucky? You bet.

But you too could give your body the nutrients it needs to support your entire
sexual health.

Ineffective medications are what slows down and sometimes even stops the
healing process!

[Bug 780921] [NEW] Tiling - dragging a window to the left / right border does not work properly in multi head configurations

2011-05-11 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

The tiling utility - dragging a window to the left or right border of
the current screen will auto tile the window to that side of screen. In
a multi head configuration with several monitors this behaviour is not
defined by monitor. Dragging a window to the right border of the left
monitor will not trigger the auto tile, not until the window are
dragged to the right border of the rightmost monitor the window is tiled
and when the window are moved back to the left monitor the vertical
maximize and the proper width is forgotten. A better behaviour would be
to trigger the auto tile at the border of the monitor (windows are
usually placed in relation to the monitor, not the screen). If the
dragging not stops when the yellow square from auto tile shows the
window are moved to the next monitor as usually.

The auto tile are a fast and convenient method to split a monitor in
two, working with two equally sized windows. In configurations with for
example two monitors the left and right tiled window are a fourth width
and not placed side by side and with a wide gap in the middle. Even if
the two monitors would be seamlessly assembled without any frame or
space between the auto tile would be of any practical use.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Which monitor who is primary are important using Unity. Unity uses the
primary monitor for launcher and dhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/35465
/configuring-two-displays-with-unityash. The work-a-round is using
xrandr to change this: xrandr --output DVI-0 --primary from a terminal.
It would be much nicer if the primary monitor could be pointed out in
Gnome-display-properties.

[Bug 453169] Re: (enhancement) backup to samba share, sshfs, ftp etc

2011-02-25 Thread Anders Wallenquist
It seems like backintime uses hard links at the target, not between the
source and the snapshots. This means that it would be easy to move the
taget directory to a server using for example GIO/gvfs. GIO uses urls
for bookmarks, and I believe that the url for a ssh target could be used
with a rsync-command with little work. If its ssh-mounts only is ok for
us.

Harlinks (same inode-number) in snabshots, another inode for the source-
file.

[Bug 534906] Re: Import/export of Contact

2010-04-06 Thread Anders Wallenquist
I want to use the same contacts in empathy that I use in evolution, in
my smartphone, in ubuntuone, in linkedin, in openldap etc. Today there
are much the same people but I have to update information at several
places and add new contacts not in one application but several. I have
to remember what media / social forum / what database / handset /
application I find information of a particular person. My contact list
is not the same in my phone that i find in empathy or evolution. Do I
have him/her in jabber, msn, evolution or in my job phone? No she is not
online I better email or call her on cell instead...

If its possible to export/import contacts to empathy it helps to
maintain updated information in all applications at daily use.

For example there is very hard to export the contact list from facebook,
but empathy has it (thru the jabber protocoll)

[Bug 490053] [NEW] UbuntuOne does not work with standard OpenID

2009-11-29 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

I have an openID (using a secure hardware dongle) that I want to use with
UbuntuOne to secure my login. I don't trust launchpad-login and unsecure
passwords. Its also very convenient to use the same secure single-sign-logon on
all the services I use daily.
Is it possible to include UbuntuOne?

I would classify the lack of OpenID-possibilty as a bug.

[Bug 489549] [NEW] Syncing evolution conifguration details

2009-11-28 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Working with the same account from several computers creates the
demand of sharing information about personal mail-adresses for evolution
and other mail-clients and IM-accounts, not only contacts, calendar,
notes and documents.

In the context of installing a new os from scratch every six month,
using several computers, at home, at work, at customers, virtual
machines, nettops, mids, (in the future phones), laptops, lending a
computer from a colleague, the time to get your personal account in sync
to be productive are a huge time thief. UbuntuOne creating an api for
this, an internet protocol and a server/SAAS for this, can have a
significant role to play in this area.

There are some stubs for this in evolution and LDAP

[Bug 234537] Re: gnome-keyring and gvfs doesn't play well with openoffice

2008-05-31 Thread Anders Wallenquist
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 234532 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234532

1 This is how the problem are triggered:

Context: Standard Ubuntu 8.04 (with Gnome) installed on the Client (with
OpenOffice and ubuntu-desktop installed), Ubuntu 6.06 or greater
installed in the server with openssh-server installed

1.1) On the client, connect a directory to the client from the server using the
Places-menu-system
1.2) Drag and drop some OpenOffice-documents and ascii-text-documents to the
mounted share on the server
1.3) Fire up OpenOffice and Gedit
1.4) Using the Gnome Open dialogue: try to open, change and save one of the
text-documents using gedit
1.5) Using the Gnome Open dialogue: try to open, change and save one of the
openoffice-documents using openoffice

On every machine I have tested this, step 1.5 stopped due to an extra
password dialogue

I don't know if this is a bug in gvfs-sftp, the Gnome-keyring-system,
the OpenOffice-gnome-addition or else (fat fingers).

But I know gvfs-sftp is new in Ubuntu 8.04 and this configuration worked
like charm from 6.06 to 7.04 and with a few gliches in 7.10 (reinstall
helped) .

If the new gvfs-sftp require changes that is not done in the OpenOffice-
Gnome-addition, or if its ment that the api used in OpenOffice-gnome-
addition could stay untouched and the bug are located to gvfs or the
keyring are a question which I don't have much to add.

2 Expected behavior

When using gvfs-sftp there is a password dialog and a key exchange
happening. The keyring system gives me a chance to save the password
(and keys) and give an application access to these once, for the session
or for ever. This works for virtually every gnome and gnome-conformed
application (i believe its built in the Gnome-framework) and these
applications does not have to implement a local mechanism for storing
password and keys. OpenOffice are a central appliction in many locations
and I expect OpenOffice to behave or be treated by the keyring system
like a normal Gnome application.

3 Actuall behavior

In the Open- or Save-dialog in OpenOffice navigation works fine, until
OpenOffice tries to accually read och write to a ssh-mounted (gvfs-sftp)
share. Then an alien password dialogue appears, alien as not the gnome
password dialogue. Using this OpenOffice password dialog does not gives
us the rights to continue the open or save process, usually this hangs
OpenOffice. It seems like OpenOffice first tries the Gnome way to get
access and when this does not work it have an own password-dialog as an
exception.

In earlier versions of Ubuntu OpenOffice / Gnome had en expected
behavior.

Where as before I was able to say ssh (secure one port) and you have remote
access. Now ssh and ftp are useless to work from with Openoffice and Nautilus.

Exactly, we use ssh for almost everything, for local access and remote.
We are targeting SME with not so many users, less than a hundred client
computers on a local network. Using ssh for everything makes a
transparent computer environment, users does not have to have in mind if
the network is airbourne, if they work on a LAN, to a branch-office,
from home or mobile.

[Bug 234532] Re: gvfs-sftp: openoffice can't open or save files

2008-05-29 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Sebastien Bacher: We use an Ubuntu-server and ssh/sftp as a fileserver.
Accessing (open and save) files thru the Gnome VFS-system works fine
with real Gnome applications, but not with OpenOffice. (When
OpenOffice tries to open or save files it starts a password dialogue
which seems not to be connected with any Gnome underlying system, not
the keyring system nor the Gnome open dialogue / ssh password dialogue.
Trying to give userid and password does not do any good) This is an
issue that is (for us) new after upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 on the client
side. On server-side we still have Ubuntu 6.06 and Ubuntu 7.10.

Alfred_nutile: we have this configuration working at us and several
customers using 7.04 and 7.10, but have had some problems in 7.10 with
some client-computers that we upgraded from 7.04, after a reinstall it
started working as it should.

[Bug 180043] Re: [dapper] MySQL-update brakes postfix-mysql configuration

2008-01-03 Thread Anders Wallenquist
It seems to be the MySQL-update that brakes the chroot-environment that
PostFix runs with.

A work-a-round is to do:

ln /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock /var/spool/postfix/run/mysql/mysql.sock

But this has to be done every time there is a change to
/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock . This is a dangerous problem that happens on
every running LTS-system and causes a lot of downtime and failsearch.
Not what to be expected on a high profile LTS server system.

A reinstall of postfix or postfix-mysql may have eliminated the error
also. I think this relation is something that package management would
have found out and taken care of.

if ( mysql-server-package is changed ) {
reinstall *-mysql-packages (reinstall all installed related packages,
postfix-mysql in this case)
}

[Bug 179359] Re: Open dialog lacks mounted directories

2007-12-31 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Thank you, I hope this small enhancement will be implemented. Working
with gnome-vfs is an important feature in for example gedit and will
make gobby a far more potent equipment in the programmers toolbox. I
believe its more easy to implement this than a CVS, BZR or SVN interface
and has a wider target audience.

[Bug 179244] [Gutsy] unpacking to a gnome-vfs-mount stopped working

2007-12-29 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

When downloading an archive file using Firefox with file-roller as a
target (or a local file), unpacking to a gnome-vfs-mount (ssh in this
case) does not work. This did work in Feisty. The Gnome Open dialog
hangs until a local catalog is choosen instead of a remote.

There is no error messages shown when file-roller is started in a
terminal.

The Open File dialog from Archive Manager does not show any (Nautilus)
shares at all (bookmarks), but remote servers are shown (mounted
servers) .

When the archive is opened (right-clicked) on a remote share (ssh-
mounted) the unpack does work on the same remote location.

Makeing the report bug #174872 to the upstream project make this bug-
report invisible in Ubuntu bugreports. Is this the correct procedure?

If this is an Ubuntu issue this will never be found. In the upstream
project this bug is marked as invalid, but still I have this problem
at least five Ubuntu-boxes i have investigated this on until now.
Upstream they want me to use a version of Inkscape that is not even
released for Hardy, and if this is the solution then the Ubuntu package
maintainer would upgrade too.

It would make more sence if it was duplicated an Ubuntu bug.

[Bug 130099] libapache2-mod-auth-pam: doesnt work with Apache 2.1

2007-08-03 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libapache2-mod-auth-pam

Reported to Debian
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=394097

Since the auth mechanisms were changed in Apache 2.1 this module does
not work any more. It probably should be replaced by mod_authn_pam
available at http://mod-auth.sourceforge.net/docs/mod_authn_pam/

I think its importent to change package for pam authentication in Ubuntu as
soon as possible

** Affects: libapache2-mod-auth-pam (Ubuntu)

This is a work-a-round which some times get this to work

   Directory /var/www/
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
allow from all

AuthType Basic
AuthPAM_Enabled on
AuthBasicAuthoritative Off
AuthName Barney-servern
Require valid-user

[Bug 63713] Re: /var/run/asterisk does not exist

2006-10-04 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Yes this is a dup of #47813 (it was marked as fix so I didn't see it)

And for the zaptel issue I don't now yet if it is a hardware och
software problem

[Bug 64059] Wrong device-names in udev

2006-10-04 Thread Anders Wallenquist
Public bug reported:

After loading modules zaptel and wcte11xp new devices are created:

zap14 zap2zap25 zap30 zap8
zap1zap15 zap20 zap26 zap31 zap9
zap10 zap16 zap21 zap27 zap4zapchannel
zap11 zap17 zap22 zap28 zap5zapctl
zap12 zap18 zap23 zap29 zap6zappseudo
zap13 zap19 zap24 zap3zap7zaptimer

But zttest, zttmonitor and chap_zap (asterisk) are expecting:

/dev/zap/*

As described here there are some files needed in /etc/udev/rules.d/ to
get this to work:

http://asterisk.gnuinter.net/files/digium/zaptel/README.udev

Something like this would do the work:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/udev/rules.d$ cat 51-zaptel.rules
# Section for Zaptel device - Permissions
zap/*:asterisk:asterisk:05700

# Section for Zaptel device
KERNAL=zapctl, NAME=zap/ctl

KERNAL=zapchannel, NAME=zap/channel
KERNAL=zappseudo, NAME=zap/pseudo
KERNAL=zap0-9*, NAME=zap/%n

Asterisk 1.2.7: The /etc/init.d/asterisk - startscript has to enshore

I believe there is a typo in /etc/init.d/asterisk

as it is now owner and group still are root:root.

By the way.. I have touble getting a Digium Wildcard TE110P T1/E1 to
work with the zaptel-module. I had to recompile to get the modules to
load. But i still can't load chan_zap into asterisk and the small red
light does not light-up (Digium says that light whould light when
kernel-modules are loaded). Havent found any bug reports on the zaptel
module. My local Digium reseller tells me to change to RHEL or Fedora
:-( Should I try with Edgy asterisk/zaptel-packages instead? Do I have
to backport or can I use the binaries? How can I tell if the TE110P-card
really are working? (Are there any Ubuntu asterisk 1.2.7.1/zapata 1.2.5
with TE110P working out there?)
