[Bug 2066076] [NEW] Anydesk right side upper panel display not responding
Public bug reported: Anydesk application was working fine in 22.04LTS, but when I upgraded to 24.04LTS, a portion of my display's right-side upper panel stopped working. Whenever I click on that particular portion, anydesk only opens again and again. It happens whenever anydesk icon is visible just left to the connections options (right side upper corner). If I close the anydesk application, the portion I said above stops responding (not opening anydesk anymore). It is not a large section, but still, it makes trouble to close other applications as all the options of that window(minimize, maximize, close). [Bug 1919044] Re: Dell Inspiron 7567 Freezes/Hangs Randomly
Update: It still crashes even if pstate is disabled. Now I do not know what is going on anymore. This issue never happens in windows. So it definitely is not a hardware issue. [Bug 1919044] Re: Dell Inspiron 7567 Freezes/Hangs Randomly
** Description changed: Hi, I am running ubuntu 20.04 LTS on my laptop and have had this issue of the computer freezing ever since I installed this OS. When this occurs, I lose all control of my laptop, and nothing but a hard reset will fix the problem. I believe that this is related to the cstate issue that is most common in the intelbay trail processors (I've seen many forums discussing the same issue). This is because when I pass in the grub-boot-parameter GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash intel_idle.max_cstate=3, this issue never occurs. However, the issue has come up when I set - max_cstate=5; so I believe that the issue is caused when the processor - enters a cstate between 4 and 5. + max_cstate=5; so the issue is caused when the processor enters a cstate + between 4 and 5. - The downside of this workaround is the degradation of battery life (it - does not last for 1/4th the usual time). + The downside of this whole grub boot parameter workaround is that the + degradation of battery life is heavy reduced(it does not last for 1/4th + the usual time). [Bug 1882880] Re: FP Auth enroll screen issue: Max limit not defined
Hi Sebastian yes you are right. We can club this issue in the bug #1882878. The reason I did put it out separately is because I did not want to miss out this issue. In windows the GUI doesn't have any options like what we have here like each finger is displayed in the GUI for enrollment. Windows internally keeps counts of how many fingers are enrolled. If 10 fingers are enrolled then it will shoot an error saying maximum limit is reached. Here in linux GUI what we can do is we can only display the remaining fingers to be enrolled as active and already enrolled fingers can be grayed out in GUI. [Bug 1882878] Re: The user panel let you enroll the same finger several times
Hi Sebastian, I am just referring s per windows implementation here. So the user may try to enroll the same finger several times and since the templates are stored in device(Not the host) it may run out of memory. Hence this duplicate check is necessary for those devices which stores the templates in device memory itself. The other thing is you need to provide an API in the libfprint to do the duplicate check when enrolling a new finger. So this command goes to the device all through and device itself sees whether the finger is already enrolled or not. Depending on this output further enrollment process can be continued or a warning message can be displayed(As in windows). You can refer the windows WBF API's for the same. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1882878 Title: The user panel let you enroll the same finger several times To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/1882878/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1865917] [NEW] Failed to install grub. It's a fatal error. I guess it's my fault. Nothing to do with installation process.
Public bug reported: I restarted in the initial screen, while it's showing blank screen and a blinking cursor for few seconds, may be while it's still starting to boot the USB drive. Failed to install grub. It's a fatal error. I guess it's my fault. Nothing to do with installation. I am installing it through a USB drive. In the BIOS I gave the boot target as the USB drive. On restart, it showed a blank screen with just a blinking cursor for few second. I hastily thought that the USB boot process would pick up next time and pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del. It booted to the installation process. But it showed just my hard disk drive /dev/sda not my partitions. There were windows, 2 logical drives, swap, boot along side 16.04 and 18.04 Ubuntu. Then I recovered the partitions using TestDisk on live USB drive. It's was then I realized that I messed the boot process while it's dealing with EFI perhaps. I might be wrong. I knew then that this installation won't be smooth, but I was happy that my existing files are safe. Still trying to figure out what I have to do to boot to hard drive successfully. This is my silly doing. This bug is unusual. Hope you won't waste precious development time on this bug. Thank you. Also I gave /boot to a separate drive (500MB) and selected that drive to install boot manager in. May be this is the culprit, or It shouldn't be done this way. I'll try not assigning separate drive to /boot and instead leave it to be default. I attached the partition table I used. [Bug 1779925] [NEW] Compiz not running
Public bug reported: To whoever reading this, I assume that you are reading the below message after seeing the auto generated bug report. I'm just explaining below the scenario of how and when I got the error and how it got fixed. Till date I'm not sure what caused this error in first place. The details of the error: I used to get this error every time I started the system. Report error also used to fail. Ironically now report error is working when there is no longer an error. Coupled with this error one day my desktop user interface itself was not working as compiz was not running. I tried different solutions from many forums, community pages online. But none has worked. I had opened guest session out of curiosity to check if it works and it worked perfectly. [Bug 1756459] [NEW] VP9 hardware decoding broken in 17.10, displaying corrupted images in frames while playing videos
Public bug reported: OS version: Ubuntu 18.04 beta rc Hardware: Intel core i5 7400 (Kaby lake processor) with Intel HD graphics 630 supporting VP9 10-bit and 8-bit video decoding. In version 1.8.x of the driver the VP9 decoding is broken, the corresponding upstream patch got into 2.0.0. But since VP9 profiles are missing in version 2.0.0 driver in Ubuntu 18.04, hardware acceleration is absent, so high cpu and power usage. The buggy driver 1.8.x is used in the vlc snap too and snap developers doubt the driver version in snap will be upgraded. * VP9 decoding broken in 17.10 * VP9 decoding broken in snap packages Either driver version has to be updated to 2.1.0 or at-least cherry pick a one line patch to current Ubuntu core snap, a link for which I will mention below. Upstream driver patch: https://github.com/intel/intel-vaapi- driver/commit/9d66570032fb02b1e79a883af7697b035d700a8e Upstream bug report: https://github.com/intel/intel-vaapi- driver/issues/297 In any way kindly support VP9 hardware decoding via supported Intel hardwares in in 17.10(by backporting driver v2.1.0/cherry picking upsteam patch) or atleast via updated snap core/apps. ** Affects: intel-vaapi-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756459 Title: VP9 hardware decoding broken in 17.10, displaying corrupted images in frames while playing videos To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-vaapi-driver/+bug/1756459/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1648984] [NEW] Ubuntu is unresponsive when SearchMonkey is delegated with shorter search terms
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Operating System software crashes when SearchMonkey is allotted with search-terms containing lesser than 3-4 characters (depending on system configuration). This freezes Ubuntu Kernel (which I believe happens due to high priority threads to unnecessary processes created due to misreported file size; Reference: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/searchmonkey/+bug/693943). Even X server hangs and so is the case with entire OS. Alt+SysRq+sequence does not work (sequence being REISUB). None of the OS-internal SIG signals are triggered and SearchMonkey does not let Ubuntu respond even to ACPI signals. This problem can be reproduced by cloning repositories and searching for "9002" and "9003". (as mentioned in http://docs.erlerobotics.com/simulation/configuring_your_environment) (I am using Lenovo y50-70 with Ubuntu 14.04 with default hardwares) ** Affects: searchmonkey (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1648984 Title: Ubuntu is unresponsive when SearchMonkey is delegated with shorter search terms To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/searchmonkey/+bug/1648984/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 693943] Re: Misreported file size
I surmise that it reports 1024 (or 1000) times more size than the original file size information. [Bug 1603564] Re: USB unplug crashes system - Assuming host is dying, halting host
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Occasionally, when I unplug my Android phone (connected over USB), my machine crashes. At first, I presumed the entire machine had halted since the keyboard and mouse stopped working. However, I'm still able to SSH in although the screen is completely non-responsive. Pressing the power button on the CPU seems to bring up a window with Ubuntu's power options. My Ubuntu version: No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1603564] Re: USB unplug crashes system - Assuming host is dying, halting host
First off, sorry if this comment is redundant. I cannot say for sure whether the issue happened after an update. I run apt-get upgrade very often and thus cannot peg it down to an update. I have definitely not upgraded (dist-upgrade) my Ubuntu version. I will give the latest kernel a shot, but, I have no way to 100% reproduce this bug every time. This may lead to false negatives. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1603564 Title: USB unplug crashes system - Assuming host is dying, halting host To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1603564/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1603564] Re: USB unplug crashes system - Assuming host is dying, halting host
I don't think I can run apport-collect. So far, I've had it happen about 3-4 times over 30 hours of uptime. If it does happen again, _and_ I'm able to start a vnc session, _and_ said vnc session works, I will definitely update this bug report with the logs.
