[Bug 113042] Re: left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04
I'm happy to know that this is not a problem with *Ubuntu (I found Xubuntu is affected too), nevertheless I found that the problem can be solved by simply editing xorg.conf as follows: 1. At the end of the section ServerLayout add the line InputDevice XWorkAround 2. At the end of the file (maybe other places are OK) add the following Section InputDevice Identifier XWorkAround Driver void EndSection 3. Restart X and that's all I hope that the above changes could be adopted in the default xorg.conf so that running *Ubuntu as a virtual machine would be more straightforward. [Bug 113042] Re: left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04
I haven't tried to install Kubuntu 7.04 yet in a real machine. When booting from the live CD, all works correctly even inside VMware. After installation on virtual HDD, still ok. After installation of latest vmtools (build 45731) the problem appears (here attached the xorg.conf before and after such installation). I recently upgraded a Kubuntu Edgy virtual machine to Feisty through the network and the problem did NOT appear (so now I have a working Feisty VM!) even though the same vmtools were there. Anyway, I performed the suggested tests on the broken machine and the related records are here attached. NOTE: after issuing the xev command I pressed and released just ONCE the RIGHT button followed by the LEFT one, then I closed the window. I hope this information can be useful. If needed, I'll try to provide more. ** Attachment added: Archive contents: xorg.conf, xorg.conf.BeforeVMwareToolsInstall, events.txt, xmodmap.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8676784/attach.zip -- left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113042 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 113042] Re: left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are using a software package that is not provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks! If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and Ubuntu the following pages should be informative: 1. [Bug 113042] Re: left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04
This definitely is a problem with vmware tools, your xorg.conf shows that they are using there own mouse driver and mouse protocol. I recently upgraded a Kubuntu Edgy virtual machine to Feisty through the network and the problem did NOT appear. Compare the vmmouse InputDevice sections in /etc/X11/xorg.conf from this virtual machine to the one that does not work. [Bug 113042] Re: left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04
Thanks for your bug report. Does the problem only happen in VMware? Do you have the same problem when booting from the Kubuntu desktop (live) CD? After activating the Left handed function you can find out if both a right and left click event are generated when one of the buttons is pressed. Use the following command: $ xev | grep button | tee events.txt Attach events.txt and the output of the following command to the bug report: $ xmodmap -pp ** Changed in: Ubuntu Assignee: (unassigned) = Pascal De Vuyst Status: New = Incomplete -- left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113042 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 113042] Re: left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04
I have a similar problem. I am using a MacBook and the Bluetooh mouse from Apple. When I reverse mouse buttons, I get the same behavior. I think it's an xorg issue; I saw the same behavior with USB mouse with X terminals, even though I am unsure of how to reproduce this problem with other setups. -- left-handed mouse works weird in kubuntu 7.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113042 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
