[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 579764] Re: Computer fails to completely boot hangs at tty login
This bug affects my machine too. It started to occur randomly after I upgraded to Lucid. If I login and run sudo start gdm then gdm starts up correctly. Onboard nVidia GeForce 6150. 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 gdm 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 As you can see, I upgraded to the gdm package in ubuntu-proposed but that did not fix the issue. It looks like X.org is trying to start before the nVidia kernel module is loaded. X.org fails at 06:08:19 and the kernel module does not seem to be loaded until 06:08:21 From Xorg.log: (EE) May 22 06:08:19 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login
I'm sad to say that the problem is back on my Samsung NP-N210. I've googled through many articles, tried many changes, but problem still occurs. To be more exact, it gets OK sometimes, and sometimes following actions help: gconftool -s /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled -t boolean false gconftool -s /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled -t boolean true sudo modprobe -r mouse sudo modprobe -r psmouse if I run syndaemon, I receive the message Unable to find a synaptics device. Tried to change xorg.conf file with many ways, but successful. What I also tried is to set TouchPad as AlwaysCore in xorg.conf, it helped for some time but then the problem was back. Done the fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 from USB, formatted drive, but useless. Donno what to do. Confused, frustrated,,, The module is loaded according to Xorg.0.log: (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so (II) Module synaptics: vendor=X.Org Foundation compiled for 1.7.6, module version = 1.2.2 Module class: X.Org XInput Driver ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 7.0 And then it's reloaded: (II) LoadModule: synaptics (II) Reloading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so But then it's unloaded: (II) Synaptics touchpad driver version 1.2.2 TouchPad no synaptics event device found (**) Option Device /dev/psaux (**) Option SHMConfig on (**) Option LeftEdge 1700 (**) Option RightEdge 5300 (**) Option TopEdge 1700 (**) Option BottomEdge 4200 (**) Option FingerLow 25 (**) Option FingerHigh 30 (**) Option MaxTapTime 0 (**) Option MaxTapMove 220 (**) Option VertScrollDelta 100 (**) Option MinSpeed 0.06 (**) Option MaxSpeed 0.12 (**) Option AccelFactor 0.0010 Query no Synaptics: 6003C8 (--) TouchPad: no supported touchpad found (EE) TouchPad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware. (EE) PreInit failed for input device TouchPad (II) UnloadModule: synaptics But sometimes, when the messages are the same in the log file, the touchpad is functioning. Really unpredictable behavior. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 502237] Re: Xorg crashes after GDM when switching users
Same problem in lucid. I think this bug could be a duplicate of 343265 (similar backtrace) and that it is solved. Although wasn't able to get the same backtrace in lucid but the crashes are there. This piece of code from karmic gdb backtrace was helpful: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x080f95fc in xf86CursorSetCursor (pDev=0xa33d258, pScreen=0xa1c7458, pCurs=0xa90a190, x=1, y=0) Searching on freedesktop it seems to have been solved in april: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg-devel/2010-April/006841.html I installed xorg 1.8.1 (it has this patch) from and nvidia 195.36.24 from xorg-edgers ppa and no more crashes switching users/VTs. After 2 days on lucid, 2 users and numerous switches, not even one crash. Will continue testing, hopefully if would not crash again :-) Could anyone review the above info and adjust the tags: xorg, not nvidia bug and the duplicate status, if applicable? I had the same problem since ubuntu 9.04, with all vesions of nvidia and xorg available at the time (maybe bug introduced after xorg 1.5?), but not always the same backtrace, so then reported as #406965, Bug #579874. -- Xorg crashes after GDM when switching users https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502237 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Forget to mention that I had to enable KMS due to a GPU freeze after upgrading to karmic, using options i915 modeset=1. I have another issue : my cursor is disappearing after closing re- opening the lid. Have to change the VT come back to get the cursor back. Seems this three issues are connected, because after switching to linux- image-2.6.34-020634-generic_2.6.34-020634_i386, it solved all this bugs at the same time (brightness and cursor). -- brigthness set to 0 when switching to a graphical console https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584486 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 584525] [NEW] [X1400] random crash when loading the X server
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I used other distributions (Mandriva and openSUSE) with the radeonhd driver, but after I switched to Ubuntu 10.04, I experience random X crashes when the video driver is loaded. All I get is a black screen with some random red points at the first lines. I have to restart by turning off the computer and turning on again. I guess that this is caused by the radeon video driver. Since I had to restart the computer, I have no /var/log/Xorg.0.log to append, since the new one doesn't reflect the crash. I'm not able to provide a full backtrace, because ulimit -c was set to 0 (and I wonder whether this setting will support a system restart). Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292861] Re: touchpad sensitivity goes down (probably to lowest) on resume
Hello Bryce, I unfortunately don't have the machine that exhibited the symptom anymore so I can't regress the fix. Someone else with an inspiron 1525 could try this out. -Daniel Date: Fri, 21 May 2010 10:40:32 + From: br...@bryceharrington.org To: daniel...@hotmail.com Subject: [Bug 292861] Re: touchpad sensitivity goes down (probably to lowest) on resume @piotrsirko - thanks for providing that info, but we would like to see it from the original reporter. We may want to send this bug report upstream, but upstream has a hard and fast rule that logs from someone other than the original reporter are not acceptable. The reason for that is that quite often with X.org bug reports, two people may *think* they have the same issue based on commonality of symptoms and/or hardware, but in truth they have separate issues and mixing the report and the files can cause the developers some confusion. If this bug report seems not to be getting attention, I would encourage you to file a new bug report with this data, and simply reference this bug report in your bug description. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- touchpad sensitivity goes down (probably to lowest) on resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292861 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of a duplicate bug. Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Running ibex 64bit on an inspiron 1525 w/ all updates after a clean install: After resuming from suspend, the touchpad settings seem to get reset. 1) The sensitivity goes way down to a point that seems equal with the lowest setting. 2) The setting to turn on mouse clicks with the touchpad gets turned back on (despite me have it set to off). These are the only settings I have noticed getting changed, but it's possible others could be as well. IN ALL CASES the settings in the mouse configuration tool look as I set them (the sensitivity slider is in the right place, the mouse clicking with the touchpad box is unchecked), but the touchpad is not responding in a way that refects the settings I have set. If I change each reset option in the mouse settings tool after the resume, all works as normal, but this is really annoying to have to do after EVERY resume (as I rarely power off my laptop). I'm guessing it has to do with xorg, but I don't know where. I'll post log files. Resume @ about nov 2 15:41. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 584525] Re: [X1400] random crash when loading the X server
Hi Bruce, thanks for your fast reply. Sorry, but I'm afraid I haven't expressed myself accurately. The issue doesn't appear every time I boot the system (it seems totally random, at least to me) and the computer is totally unresponsive, so I cannot run any command then. And I guess that if I run when I restart the computer, the files collected by apport-collect might be the wrong ones, since the reboot is fine. Could you confirm this? *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 160264 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160264 The black screen problem is still alive! (Core i3 530 with integrated graphics) Reliable workaround: 1. For every user on the machine repeat step 2, 3 and 4 2. go to System, Settings, Keyboard Shortcuts 3. add a shortcut name: e.g. Fix black screen command: xgamma -gamma 1.0 4. assign a combination: e.g. Crtl+Esc Whenever you expirience the problem, do the following: - type in the password of the user you want to switch to - apply the keyboard shortcut (in my case Crtl+Esc) That already saved me at least a hunderd times. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 584525] Re: [X1400] random crash when loading the X server
Hi Bruce, I have experienced another crash. I'm attaching the Xorg.0.log file, but I'm afraid it might be the previous one, since the crash happened less than 20 minutes ago and last modification from this file was almost 8 hours ago. Sorry, I have realized that I don't know how I copied the Xorg.0.log file to the USB memory with Slax, but I'm afraid it is not there. Just in case it might help, I attach Xorg.0.log.old. I have tried to get a «post mortem» (or «post crashem» ;-)) backtrace, but I'm afraid I cannot get rid of ulimit -c 0. I have added the following uncommented line to /etc/security/limits.conf: roothardcoreunlimited But ulimit -c in root is set to 0. This is why I cannot provide a retrospective backtrace. How can I get core files for the root? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 584590] [NEW] LiveCD should not set color depth + resolution combination so aggressive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 with standard LiveCD. Splash screen shows up properly, but when the window manager fires up, it sets the color depth to 24 bits, which is too high for some video devices when they are running in high resolution (including the admittedly old Dell Latitude C800 I'm on right now that runs 1400 x 1050). Changing xorg.conf to force 16 bit color looks great, and should be the default as it is a MUCH more universally supported setting than 24 bit. $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82815 815 Chipset Host Bridge and Memory Controller Hub (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82815 815 Chipset AGP Bridge (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev 02) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801BAM ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801BAM IDE U100 Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM USB Controller #1 (rev 02) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility M4 AGP 02:03.0 Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1983S Maestro-3i PCI Audio Accelerator (rev 10) 02:06.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c556 Hurricane CardBus [Cyclone] (rev 10) 02:06.1 Communication controller: 3Com Corporation Mini PCI 56k Winmodem (rev 10) 02:0f.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI4451 PC card Cardbus Controller 02:0f.1 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI4451 PC card Cardbus Controller 02:0f.2 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments PCI4451 IEEE-1394 Controller 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Xircom Cardbus Ethernet 10/100 (rev 03) 03:00.1 Serial controller: Xircom Cardbus Ethernet + 56k Modem (rev 03) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-19.28-generic 2.6.32.10+drm33.1 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-19-generic i686 Architecture: i386 CheckboxSubmission: 7c13f7165c52c88c4d0209ab8f72213f CheckboxSystem: efd05939b08abfe86caa44c3820f8e56 Date: Sun May 23 15:03:47 2010 DkmsStatus: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory GdmLog2: Error: command ['gksu', '-D', 'Apport', '--', 'cat', '/var/log/gdm/:0.log.2'] failed with exit code 1: cat: /var/log/gdm/:0.log.2: No such file or directory LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx - Alpha i386 (20100410.1) Lsusb: Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub MachineType: Dell Computer Corporation Latitude C800 PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available Socket 1: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: 3.3V 32-bit PC Card Socket 1: no card ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/hostname.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- maybe-ubiquity ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xorg dmi.bios.date: 03/21/2001 dmi.bios.vendor: Dell Computer Corporation dmi.bios.version: A08 dmi.board.name: Latitude C800 dmi.board.vendor: Dell Computer Corporation dmi.chassis.type: 8 dmi.chassis.vendor: Dell Computer Corporation dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnDellComputerCorporation:bvrA08:bd03/21/2001:svnDellComputerCorporation:pnLatitudeC800:pvr:rvnDellComputerCorporation:rnLatitudeC800:rvr:cvnDellComputerCorporation:ct8:cvr: dmi.product.name: Latitude C800 dmi.sys.vendor: Dell Computer Corporation glxinfo: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-19-generic ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid -- LiveCD should not set color depth + resolution combination so aggressive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584590 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
