[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656522] Re: [rv710] drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12! from google-maps in chromium-browser
I've got the same error when I run Moovida (1.0,9) and select 'TV Shows / Library'. It also happens whilst running xbmc (from Lucid PPA from team-xbmc). Some follow-up: I can eliminate virt-manager as one of the variables. This behavior can occur even if virt-manager has never been run. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 62747] Re: Random system freeze at window operations
Solution: Disable special CPU/motherboard/IO services. I mean: append kernel parameters with this: acpi = off noapic nolapic This can be done before booting, but it's the best to create a new, safe system start entry in your grub menu (read manual to do this). For me this always solved the problem, but it was never a complete solution, because other new problems occured: 1. No more wireless LAN support; 2. Ubuntu is no longer able to turn computer off when trying to; 3. USB devices working slower, especially when connecting USB 2.0 device on USB 1.0 port; this means an exponential-slowing-down. I haven't test it with wired LAN, but it may be affected too. If you can live with these limitations then your system will be atomic-secure and stable, but your system will feel like an old 3.86/4.86 PC in the 90's. I wonder when this bug will be fixed finally, because I might have given enough informations about the source of the problem in the beginning of this comment (IO/APIC). -- Random system freeze at window operations https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/62747 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656906] [NEW] In Kubuntu, widgets and the mouse can be placed in areas that are covered by no monitor.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm extending my laptop monitor with a native resolution of 1366×768 with an external display with a native resolution of 1280×1024. This situation is poorly handled. Here's a representation of my setup, which I mirrored in the Monitor configuration: ╔╤╗ ║1░░░│║ ║│║ ╟┘║ ║▓║ ║▓║ ║▓║ ║▓┌───╢ ║▓│2░░║ ╚═╧═══╝ ▓ laptop monitor ▒ external monitor ░ area that is not covered by any monitor ═ shape of the virtual desktop ─ shape of the area that is actually covered by monitors I am experiencing a number of problems: - No desktop is running in the ▒ area. The wallpaper is black and right clicks are a no-op. - Widgets can be moved from the ▓ area to the ▒ area. However, they are invisible on the destination monitor. - Widgets can be moved from the ▓ area to the ░1 area. Doing so makes the widget immediately disappear the moment the dragging point leaves the desktop. - Clicking on the ░1 area makes it copy to the ▓ monitor. From there, widgets dragged at the previous step can be dragged back into view. Clicking outside this copied area restores the monitor to normality. This is not replicable on the ░2 area. I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 (Lucid) and I had this problem with getting a black screen when switching users also. Following Igor's advice fixed it for me. The steps I took were: 1. Download the nvidia-96 96.43.18-0ubuntu1 package from http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/nvidia-96 2. Install the package with the following command: sudo dpkg -i nvidia-96_96.43.18-0ubuntu1_i386.deb 3. Restart the computer Since then everything works perfectly. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 RC x64/x86 on Samsung R710 notebook. After successful installation i run Additional drivers and it found recomended nvidia driver. After installation it asks to reboot. And after rebooting os could not starts. When i tried to start os in safe xserver mode it reports that module 'nvidia' could not be found. I also tried to install latest nvidia driver from their site but nothing changed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655592] Re: System hangs when using direct rendering
Thanks for your report. Strictly speaking, gallium is not supported in Ubuntu 10.10 which ships the classic drivers instead. However I have seen the same issue with the classic drivers on RV410, it just happens more often with gallium. The workaround is to install a 2.6.36-rc7 kernel from the Kernel Mainline PPA, and boot with the drm_kms_helper.poll=0 kernel option. The Ati's hotfix worked for me too, but I had to generate and use the packages for Ubuntu/lucid too. With the generated packages I run ati-driver-installer-8.771.2-x86.x86_64.run and installed it normally. After the installation finished I installed the generated packages in the following order: fglrx fglrx-dev fglrx-amdcccle fglrx-modaliases The last step was running the aticonfig --initial command. This way worked for me, installing the ati-driver-installer-8.771.2-x86.x86_64.run without the packages haven't worked for me. Nevertheless, the first time I rebooted the system, the login screen was not shown. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200
I see corruption that changes depending on to which of the three LCD screens I drag my Firefox window. The worst corruption is far right. I see less corruption when I drag the window to the middle LCD, and dragging the window to the leftmost LCD looks fine. The middle and right LCDs are on the same ATI FireMV 2250 card. The leftmost LCD is on a second FireMV 2250 card. The corruption isn't constant. Things look fine when I first reboot and get worse as time goes on. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid
This problem persists with the post-RC 07-oct-2010 build. Linux distro/version and kernel version Ubuntu 10.10 Linux ubuntu 2.6.35-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Sun Sep 19 20:34:50 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux model name : Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2800+ cpu MHz : 800.000 If I just boot the live CD, without trying to boot into text mode, eventually the screen for choosing 'trying Ubuntu' versus installing it shows, in 1600x1200 mode - so as before this dialog appears in the lower left-hand corner of the 1024x768 screen. If I then click on the 'trying' button, eventually the screen comes up in an unusual state - somewhat similar to an early 'split-screen' bug (shown in an early comment in this bug report) but completely unusable - nothing but purple horizontal lines, with a clear dividing line down the center. However, if I hit ESC right after booting, and use F6 followed by ESC to get an editable command line, and end that with -- text (as in a couple of comments back), I eventually end up booting in text mode. At that point, I can create passwords for root and ubuntu, install openssh- server, copy an xorg.conf file from my Debian installation into /etc/X11, and start X with 'gdm start'. THEN the Gnome screen will eventually appear in 1024x768 mode. (The xorg.conf file is attached a few comments back). (Note that Debian Lenny works fine on this computer, and the xorg.conf file is one I use under that distro). However, trying to switch into text mode with ctrl-alt-F2 (for example) results in a screen with what looks like huge text characters. Switching back into X seems to require F8 rather than the usual F7, which is odd. I have attached a tar file with (a) Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old before trying to switch into text mode, and (b) after trying this. (Having the openssh-server installed was helpful for doing this, so I could log in from another computer). ** Attachment added: TAR containing Xorg.0.log* from before and after text switching https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/495553/+attachment/1680704/+files/Xorg.tar -- [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495553 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
