[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656522] Re: [rv710] drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12! from google-maps in chromium-browser

2010-10-09 Thread RdeWit
I've got the same error when I run Moovida (1.0,9) and select 'TV Shows
/ Library'. It also happens whilst running xbmc (from Lucid PPA from
team-xbmc). The latter gave me a nice error that I'll attach here. HTH.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 652731] Re: Appearance settings do not work in Xubuntu 10.10 RC

2010-10-09 Thread Sune Bredahl
I just did a fresh reinstall of Xubuntu 10.10 RC, and yes the problem is
that 'xfsettingsd' is not running for some reason. You can fix this by
adding 'xfsettingsd' to your Application Autostart group in the xfce 4
settings manager.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)

2010-10-09 Thread WebNuLL
I found some patches for evdev, but i dont know how to test these
patches.

http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2010-June/009471.html

The patches brings multitouch functions to evdev, i checked my evdev
from Maverick and i dont have these patches applied.

So there is a question; does nw-fermi supports multitouch?

If it supports i think there is possibility to run multitouch by
patching evdev to support more than one pointer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty

2010-10-09 Thread Alvaro Kuolas
@David Siegel
I use the middle-click equally or even more often than the right-click, that's
because of Firefox. Besides that, I have a physical button for right-click, so
the touchpad gesture is really needed.

@Yuri Khan
Impressive work, you have done.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656279] Re: NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context!

2010-10-09 Thread Øyvind Stegard
I am getting this on Ubuntu Maverick x86-64, using 260.19.06 beta nvidia
driver, for the following graphics hardware:
- Nvidia NVS 3100M (laptop)
- Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT (desktop)

I reverted back to Lucid, since this bug seems to screw up
suspend/resume badly on the laptop-side, and generally does not look
like a good thing. The stable 256.53 driver performs poorly on Maverick
and 195.36.24 (really, the last nvidia driver that has been stable for
me) only works on Xserver that comes with Lucid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629910] Re: nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text

2010-10-09 Thread Florin Coras
So did the Nvidia 260.19.06 driver solve the issues for you? I've got an
Nvidia Quadro 140M NVS, Maverick RC and 260.19.06-0ubuntu1 installed and
I'm still seeing poor system performance (eg. scrolling or running a
verbose script in gnome-terminal eats one of the cores of my CPU).

Is it just me?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657296] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup a5e3c267

2010-10-09 Thread Torsten Bade
some (maybe) helpfull information. I can login normal in the console
(STRG+ALT+F1) but there are also every second --
*ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung -- the dkms error message.

So it seem´s to be, that the intel Package is not properly working with the
actual kernel?
Disabling the compitz features has no effect (next try is to disable the
hibernate features)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657113] [NEW] Thinkpad T30: Auto-detection selects wrong screen resolution

2010-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was trying to execute various Test Cases from
http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Plans/LaptopTesting with 10.10-rc i386 on
a Thinkpad T30 (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Laptop/Reports/IBMThinkpadT30 for
Details).

The machine seems to boot up with the wrong screen resolution. It
detects and sets a resolution of 1600x1024 pixels instead of the real
1400x1050, leading to a garbled screen output (especially on the right
side of the screen). After switching the resolution to 1400x1050 via the
control panel, the screen looks okay, but video playback seems to be
broken and moving windows along is extremely slow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655212] Re: screensaver hangs in rare circumstances

2010-10-09 Thread Al Stone
Some follow-up: I can eliminate virt-manager as one of the variables.
This behavior can occur even if virt-manager has never been run. And
note that power saving *must* kick in; if it's just the screensaver, it
seems to work fine. If, however, both screens have blanked themselves
and powered down the backlight, this can occur (it happens more than 50%
of the time but less than 100%).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657140] [NEW] Nvidia 173 for older cards breaks in Maverick

2010-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Maverick introduced the X server version 1.9, up from Lucid's 1.8
branch. Either way, users have to use Nvidia's version 173 (or 96)
driver if they have a pre-GeForce-6 card, such as the FX 5 series.
However, as Nvidia hasn't updated the 173 or 96 driver branches to work
with X server 1.9 (the current branch has), the driver doesn't work at
all, and X won't start.

smplayer was trashed on my 10.04 that was installed before. Install and
first boot went fine, but after installing nvidia driver and upgrades:

-) the splash screen is replaced by console output
-) after 10 seconds i get a terminal login prompt
-) after over 3 minutes (!!!) X finally loads and i get my desktop

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 62747] Re: Random system freeze at window operations

2010-10-09 Thread Robert Abraham
Solution:
Disable special CPU/motherboard/IO services. I mean: append kernel parameters
with this:
acpi = off noapic nolapic
This can be done before booting, but it's the best to create a new, safe
system start entry in your grub menu (read manual to do this).

For me this always solved the problem, but it was never a complete solution,
because other new problems occured:
1. No more wireless LAN support;
2. Ubuntu is no longer able to turn computer off when trying to;
3. USB devices working slower, especially when connecting USB 2.0 device on USB
1.0 port; this means an exponential-slowing-down.

I haven't test it with wired LAN, but it may be affected too. If you can
live with these limitations then your system will be atomic-secure and
stable, but your system will feel like an old 3.86/4.86 PC in the 90's.

I wonder when this bug will be fixed finally, because I might have given
enough informations about the source of the problem in the beginning of
this comment (IO/APIC).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200

2010-10-09 Thread Simona Diatto
At last I found the bug affecting me!
I first run into the bug while testing Lucid Lynx from the very beginning, then
found out some way to bypass it (don't remeber how, it was a real mess). I have
just installed Maverick Meerkat RC on my netbook and the problem is here again.

Here's my graphic card and my hardware specs and some screenshots attached

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656906] [NEW] In Kubuntu, widgets and the mouse can be placed in areas that are covered by no monitor.

2010-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm extending my laptop monitor with a native resolution of 1366×768
with an external display with a native resolution of 1280×1024. This
situation is poorly handled.

Here's a representation of my setup, which I mirrored in the Monitor
configuration:

╔╤╗

║│║
╟┘║
║▓║
║▓║
║▓║
║▓┌───╢
║▓│2░░║
╚═╧═══╝

▓ laptop monitor
▒ external monitor
░ area that is not covered by any monitor
═ shape of the virtual desktop
─ shape of the area that is actually covered by monitors

I am experiencing a number of problems:

- No desktop is running in the ▒ area. The wallpaper is black and right
clicks are a no-op.
- Widgets can be moved from the ▓ area to the ▒ area. However, they are
invisible on the destination monitor.
- Widgets can be moved from the ▓ area to the ░1 area. Doing so makes the
widget immediately disappear the moment the dragging point leaves the desktop.
- Clicking on the ░1 area makes it copy to the ▓ monitor. From there, widgets
dragged at the previous step can be dragged back into view. Clicking outside
this copied area restores the monitor to normality. This is not replicable on
the ░2 area.

- detects and sets a resolution of 1600x1024 pixels instead of the real
- 1400x1050, leading to a garbled screen output (especially on the right
- side of the screen). After switching the resolution to 1400x1050 via the
- control panel, the screen looks okay, but video playback seems to be
- broken and moving windows along is extremely slow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573101] Re: No video signal after Log out in gnome when multiple users

2010-10-09 Thread Mark Northrop
I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 (Lucid) and I had this problem with getting a
black screen when switching users also.

Following Igor's advice fixed it for me.

The steps I took were:

1. Download the nvidia-96 96.43.18-0ubuntu1 package from
http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/nvidia-96
2. Install the package with the following command: sudo dpkg -i
nvidia-96_96.43.18-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
3. Restart the computer

Since then everything works perfectly. Thanks to Igor and the rest of
you for the support!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656128] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.10 xserver failed to start with nvidia driver

2010-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 RC x64/x86 on Samsung R710 notebook.

After successful installation i run Additional drivers and it found
recomended nvidia driver. After installation it asks to reboot. And
after rebooting os could not starts. When i tried to start os in safe
xserver mode it reports that module 'nvidia' could not be found. I also
tried to install latest nvidia driver from their site but nothing
changed.

If i change driver from nvidia to nv in xorg.conf OS starts correctly but with
free driver instead.
Also on another computer ATI driver works correctly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655592] Re: System hangs when using direct rendering

2010-10-09 Thread Tormod Volden
Thanks for your report. Strictly speaking, gallium is not supported in
Ubuntu 10.10 which ships the classic drivers instead. However I have
seen the same issue with the classic drivers on RV410, it just happens
more often with gallium. The workaround is to install a 2.6.36-rc7
kernel from the Kernel Mainline PPA, and boot with the
drm_kms_helper.poll=0 kernel option. Can you please check whether that
solves your issue?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 642518] Re: [MASTER] package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: Kernel fix for CVE-2010-3081 breaks fglrx

2010-10-09 Thread Camilo Peric de Freitas
The Ati's hotfix worked for me too, but I had to generate and use the packages
for Ubuntu/lucid too. With the generated packages I run
ati-driver-installer-8.771.2-x86.x86_64.run and installed it normally. After
the installation finished I installed the generated packages in the following
order:
fglrx
fglrx-dev
fglrx-amdcccle
fglrx-modaliases
The last step was running the aticonfig --initial command.
This way worked for me, installing the
ati-driver-installer-8.771.2-x86.x86_64.run without the packages haven't worked
for me.
Nevertheless, the first time I rebooted the system, the login screen was not
shown. I used the RESET BUTTON and the problem got solved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200

2010-10-09 Thread Ian! D. Allen
I see corruption that changes depending on to which of the three LCD
screens I drag my Firefox window. The worst corruption is far right.
I see less corruption when I drag the window to the middle LCD, and
dragging the window to the leftmost LCD looks fine. The middle and
right LCDs are on the same ATI FireMV 2250 card. The leftmost LCD is on
a second FireMV 2250 card. The corruption isn't constant. Things look
fine when I first reboot and get worse as time goes on.

I'm hoping Ubuntu 10.10 fixes things.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 651153] Re: [r600] Compiz functions deactivate by themselves on HD4650

2010-10-09 Thread Tormod Volden
Thanks for your report. It sounds like compiz dies. Can you please
attach your .xsession-errors after this happens? (Check first that the
file has no sensitive/private contents.)

** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Incomplete

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid

2010-10-09 Thread Peter Belew
This problem persists with the post-RC 07-oct-2010 build.
Linux distro/version and kernel version
Ubuntu 10.10
Linux ubuntu 2.6.35-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Sun Sep 19 20:34:50 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux
model name : Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2800+
cpu MHz : 800.000

If I just boot the live CD, without trying to boot into text mode,
eventually the screen for choosing 'trying Ubuntu' versus installing it
shows, in 1600x1200 mode - so as before this dialog appears in the lower
left-hand corner of the 1024x768 screen. If I then click on the 'trying'
button, eventually the screen comes up in an unusual state - somewhat
similar to an early 'split-screen' bug (shown in an early comment in
this bug report) but completely unusable - nothing but purple horizontal
lines, with a clear dividing line down the center.

However, if I hit ESC right after booting, and use F6 followed by ESC to
get an editable command line, and end that with -- text (as in a
couple of comments back), I eventually end up booting in text mode. At
that point, I can create passwords for root and ubuntu, install openssh-
server, copy an xorg.conf file from my Debian installation into
/etc/X11, and start X with 'gdm start'. THEN the Gnome screen will
eventually appear in 1024x768 mode. (The xorg.conf file is attached a
few comments back).

(Note that Debian Lenny works fine on this computer, and the xorg.conf
file is one I use under that distro).

However, trying to switch into text mode with ctrl-alt-F2 (for example)
results in a screen with what looks like huge text characters. Switching
back into X seems to require F8 rather than the usual F7, which is odd.

I have attached a tar file with (a) Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old before
trying to switch into text mode, and (b) after trying this. (Having the
openssh-server installed was helpful for doing this, so I could log in
from another computer).

** Attachment added: TAR containing Xorg.0.log* from before and after text
switching
