Re: [videoblogging] Canon 5D Mark II

I saw the movie by Vincent Laforêt
http://www.vincentlaforet.com/
I think i'll buy it soon because it will be a good tool for art
vlogging.

I was talking recently with Robert Croma about this great tool

The only problem in Europe is the 30frames/seconds

Please keep me in touch on my address mail if you buy it before me

 Anyone played with one? Thoughts?

I submitted a site I'd done using gif animations. The goal in this
case is not to be a pioneer. The goal is to look tawdry and cheap.
Using decrepit technology is the best way to achieve a porno look in

Yesterday Schlomo Twittered about the Evil Vlog QT Embed test http://

I went there and got the videos to play on my iPhone.

Has anyone else experimented with Quicktime Embeds?

[videoblogging] New Media Douche Bags

2007-11-21 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Podcasting News has found a telling video.

I find it interesting that they use the names Pete and Scott in
the video. Why would they use those names?

Pete and Scott don't hate and they are certainly not Douche Bags.

Re: [videoblogging] Pay me fuckface

2007-11-21 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I find his article interesting but he wasn't wrong before. The
content game isn't over. It won't be until we run out of humans. Sure
there are people creating free content but that will only go so far.
People thirst for mo' better content and those who know how to
deliver more will soon have all the tools in place so that they can
create and get paid for it. But that will change and change again.

People will pay for content but there will be new models for it.
Content, the way we create it and sell it will always change. There
will always be new models and there will always be kids who get upset
because Things don't seem right or fair.

When I was a kid TV was Free and so was water but now I pay over $100
per month for cable TV and maybe about the same for water (if I add
up all those bottles that I buy while I'm out roaming the streets of
Pasadena.) I grew up in Florida and fireworks were illegal there but
that didn't stop my neighbor Bruce from buying firecrackers in South
Carolina or Tennessee one Summer and selling me a package for a
dollar. Now I was an enterprising young kid and I bought a few packs
from Bruce and I waited until he had sold out and all the kids in the
neighborhood had blown their fireworks. I then separated the packs I
had bought from Bruce and started selling single firecrackers for a
dollar a piece. When Bruce found out that I was selling my one dollar
packs for $20 he was furious. He started crying and told me that I
could sell my firecrackers for a dollar a stick. He said I was wrong
and I had to stop. I sad no way. Then he went and told all the
parents that I was selling illegal fireworks for too much money. He
changed the rules on me. So when the parents came and asked me where
I got the fireworks I told them I bought them from Bruce and that I
was just selling what he had sold to me. The rules changed again and
Bruce didn't think it was fair.

Advertising is just one revenue stream. Another is selling your own
products and the two combined together can be pretty powerful. Look
at Disney Channel and how it is used to launch new brands and
monetize old ones.

You will also see new forms of encryption just take a look at all the
3-D movies coming out. Now why all of a sudden after 50 years of 3-D
movies that went no where would the big studios start making 3-D movies?

By the way, the next Summer some of those parents in my neighborhood
took trips to Tennessee and their kids were selling firecrackers to
Bruce that year. He didn't think it was fair.

Keep doing what you love to do and if it has value, people will pay
for it.

I have 25 G-Tech drives. The other day I thought one of them had gone

It's funny.

I was just saying to myself the other day how well this group has
been getting along and how we have really been sharing ideas.

Now it's back to this tit for tat stuff.

Oh well, conflict does build interest and this public display of
venom is entertaining.

I just hope it does some good for the industry. In the past these
public feuds have derailed people from concentrating on their
creative endeavors and it's just waisted energy.

Speaking of Feuds and people from this group.

NewTeeVee is going to have a Live Family Feud style gameshow tomorrow
night with a few people you may have heard of.

Speaking of Jason, he's most known for:

Oh boy... I probably shouldn't even respond to something so libelous.
However, this is so false I've got to correct it.

  1. Stealing the idea and the people from Gizmodo to make the
  identical knock off- Engagdget

 False.

I didn't steal the idea because the idea was Peter Rojas'. Nick Denton
back Peter's idea first in the form of Gizmodo, we (the weblogs, Inc
team) backed it second in the form of Engadget.

For background, I offered Peter Rojas equity in Weblogs, Inc. and he
gladly left his ~$1,200 a month job with Nick Denton at Gizmodo. Nick
Denton promised Peter equity and never gave it him, we did. We
invested our own money into Engadget which quickly--thanks to Peter
and his team--grew to 3x the size of the incumbent Gizmodo.

We sold Weblogs, Inc. (and without getting into exact details) Peter
 became a millionaire over night.

  2. Not paying employees fair wages.

 False.

What are you basing this on? We paid hundreds of folks at Weblogs,
Inc. per month well over six figures for years. We paid the best rates
in the blogging business (better than or as good as Denton depending
on the time). When AOL bought Weblogs, Inc. we hired around 20-30
 folks full-time.

  3. Trying to steal Amanda from Rocketboom (only one day after news
  broke)

 False.

How could we steal her if she left? She was a free agent and looking
for work. AOL really wanted to hire her so we made her an offer (a
very nice large offer). She took another large offer from ABC's.

Are people not allowed to make offers? Would you rather talented folks
not get offers when they've achieved success? After working for you
should Amanda never work again? I'm confused.

  4. Trying to steal top posters from Digg for Netscape

 False.

We offered the top posters from digg pay for work they had previously
not been paid for. We paid ~40 of them to work on Netscape/Propeller
doing things like putting in high-quality stories, taking our false
stories and spam, and cleaning up the mess that is social news
sometimes. It was a really good idea and Propeller is the second
largest social news site in the world.

  2. Killing Netscape by making it into a Diggclone and then getting
  fired from AOL

 False.

Jon Miller the CEO of AOL was fired and I left in solidarity within 24
hours. That's how I do I'm loyal. I started working with a fairly
well known venture capital firm with ten days of that.

Netscape was being shutdown when folks at AOL asked me what I'd do
with it. I said I would build an editorialized version of digg where
the news was fact-checked. We did, it worked. The only reason they
moved it to it's own domain--from what I've been told--is that it is
more valuable with a new name (i.e. in terms of a sale) and that
redirecting Netscape's audience to AOL.com is highly profitable
because AOL.COM is the most profitable part of the empire (and social
news sites have a harder time making money).

  3. Building a site called Mahalo which is suffering badly and no one
  likes.

The 1.5 million uniques who've come in the last 30 days (our fifth
month) might disagree with you. :-)

In terms of Veronica you can be sure she has a much better deal than
the one she had at CNET. You can also be sure she has much more
 resources behind her than ever.

Good luck with that second show.

 all the best j

What is their business model?

If we donate, how are they going to use the money to not just pay

They are in peril of going out of business due to failing to get

I checked the site, and although it's a little strange and hard for me

The show is established under pretty much the same pretenses as my

Now, I'm not really sure what to do. My show is at

really care that much? I would be extremely happy if others followed
my lead and created a similar project, but not under the backing of a
media corporation. That's the exact opposite of the point of my show
 - we don't need media corporations any longer. We are now the media,
we possess the power, etc... and we can rely on each other.

Any thoughts on what I can do? Should I attempt to get the word out

what are the chances that it is just a coincidence?

 Thanks so much,

P.S. Frenchmaidtv.com is a really funny and I'm sure effective

Zango is a site that forces you to install software to view videos.
It's bull, and Zango has a checkered past.

But this isn't to stir stuff up, Revver responded, and if you don't
want your videos to show up on Zango, just tell Revver.

Totally new interface to make making movies easier.

One thing I noticed was this:

 The YouTube connection.

Is your YouTube™ audience clamoring for more? Send your movie
directly to your YouTube™ account from iMovie so others can enjoy it,
rate it, and leave comments for the director.

We've been asking Apple for this feature for years. Actually, we've
been asking for a BlogThis! feature to allow posting to any blog, but
sending directly to YouTube makes it so easy for people to get
 started with videoblogging.

Since I've been using iMovie a lot more recently, I'll be interested
in trying this out at the Apple Store to see if it can speed up my
workflow. Redoing the iMovie application can only be a good thing.

Hey Eddie,

To my knowledge no content producers are making loads of cash in
mobile. I get many of these deals offered to me everyday and when I
ask how much their best content producer has made and who they are
and if I can speak with them things get a little squirrelly.

Unless they can give you a guarantee or let you talk with one of
their content producers that is making loads of cash I would pass
especially if your content is evergreen and will keep until a real
deal comes along.

 Irina,

I think I can get you at least 5k a month to put your show on Sprint
mobile phones if we can provide them 10 minutes of original content
 each
 month.

Sign a contract with me and let me have an exclusive for one year to
pimp you out in the marketplace.

 Attached is a contract.

I KNOW I can get you an iptv deal through ATT, but the money is
 nothing
like mobile right now. Mobile is where we could bank.

 The breakdown:

 1. Yer tha shit.
 2. One year exclusive.
 3. 70-30 You.
 4. IPTV, VOD, and mobile.

You guys still do whatever you want with the show I will not get in
 the
way of your existing marketing efforts.
If you find a better deal without me or before I find you one, we'll
 tear up the contract.
Just give me a chance to develop those ancillary markets for your
program and prove to you that I am worth doing business with.
 Ethically
 and financially.

Email or call if you have any questions or just want to talk shop. I'm
 cool like that.

 Best,
 b.

I would say that you don't keep up.

If you don't want people to steal you car don't leave the keys in it
and if you don't want people to steal your video don't put it on the
Internet.

Or, produce video that you want people to steal and put it on the
Internet. If they steal it and show it to more people it then helps
you and you can let them make their money how ever they can by doing
that for you.

I just found the NewTeeVee Metacafe Pier Screenings. It's a monthly
event. Audience-voted winners get featured on Metacafe also win a
 hard drive.

 There's one Tonight - Tues 24th - at 6.30pm. It's in San Francisco,
but anybody can submit videos. I have.

Each screening has a theme. You can submit your own films that fit
the theme to their Ning site at:

 http://screenings.newteevee.com/

 and users will rate them.
The six videos with the best ratings get screened at the event.
And the top 3 that win the audience vote at the event get featured on
Metacafe and get $5 per 1000 views. And win a big external hard drive.

This month the theme is 'When Content=Advertising', focussing on
commercial videos videos that cross the line into advertising.

Irina Co are way out in front for the Doncha iPhone video (the
Theme is being liberally interpreted) - which if you haven't seen,
you should check out at the link above and rate it. It's great.

I've also submitted my video of the scary poster that I set to Adam
Quirk's Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime. If you feel like watching
and rating it, that'd be cool too.

You need to sign up with a Ning ID to submit videos, vote rate -
you can use the same ID you use on other Ning sites like Jetset's Mix.

The event is tonight at 6.30pm at the Sony theater on 4th St in San
 Francisco.

God. All I do these days is post things from NewTeeVee. I'm not
 being paid by them. Honest.

Can we give this a rest for a week or two and see what happens?

This group does some very cool things and discovers news worthy
information all the time and this has the two side talking.

It sounds like something is going to happen and that this will come
to a settlement but I don't think that will happen untill after the
4th of July so can we pause for a little while, bring it back up
later if we need to and move on to some fun stuff like What iPhone
line is Steve Garfield standing in? or Why is Ask a Ninja going to
Israel ?

I have a problem with raising money for Lan on the list. Yes, Lan
deserves his fees (and 3 times that because of the infringement) but
to raise it ourselves lets Podtech off the hook a little bit. Okay, so
Lan is paid - why should Podtech cough up the dough then?

If I was in my early twenties and could do all the things I do now
plus edit and do HTML I could live off of what I make with French
Maid TV but I'm not and I don't so I'm still producing for cable TV
networks.

That said, if I can land more sponsorships on a regular basis I will
be doing French Maid TV full time. And if I can get the French Maids
working for me full time I will then launch new story based online
shows. But until I get the spectacle working I'm not going to
venture into story without funding from another source.

Fortunately my agents at UTA are working hard to make all this happen.

Now if I just don't screw it up everything should be fine.

You know every time I say or write, My agents I get a really stupid
smile on my face.

Thanks for this excellent info. Have you considered creating DVDs
from your content as well, and selling them on demand through

 for independent artists http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_hb5057/
is_199907/ai_n18413473. As long as you have the rights to
distribute, that might work out very well for you. You could do a
compilation of all the videos, plus deleted scenes, different angles
and possibly director and actor commentary. You could also add a DVD
only special French Maid episode. You could even do a French Maid
episode that describes how an independent filmmaker can make a DVD
for sale, from storyboards to DVD art creation, and end with an
explanation of how to order the DVD online. Voila.

 All the best,

I'm still not sure about the math at Revver it seems to vary but I am
 getting paid.

What I've found on Revver is that shorter videos make more money
because more people tend to watch to the end and click on the ad.
Take for example our video at Revver titled Free Downloads http://
one.revver.com/watch/182008/flv it's a promo that has been viewed
297468 times. It has had 213406 completed views, 27362 ad clicks and
 has made $4389.83.

Now on the other hand How to Find Music You Like http://
 one.revver.com/watch/119146/flv has had 1363678 views, 53902
completed views, 3087 ad clicks and has made $607.89.

I think this could change as both bandwidth delivery and my content
 get better but who knows?

Revver.com has been great to me. They are very cool but I'm curious
how much money I'm leaving on the table by not putting my content
everywhere I can get paid for it. - You know you don't just buy DVD's
 at Blockbuster anymore.

But on the other side of that there's also an argument for having
exclusive content that is only available on your site as this will
increase your traffic and allow you to sell advertising there. Take a
look at Ask a Ninja. They got a big deal because their site gets lots
of traffic and they have some really funny content that 12 - 18
year old boys love. I think they have made money at Revver as well.

I'm still curious, is anyone getting paid from BlipTV? Veoh? YouTube?
 Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

everywhere I can get paid for it.

Veoh? YouTube?
Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

I was so pleased to find your group. I look forward to hearing from

2007-01-29 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Apple has a link to our website on our podcast page at the iTunes
Store and we get lots of traffic from them. If it wasn't for Apple
we wouldn't have the advertisers that we have today. We also have
lots of comments on our Apple page from people who love us and hate
us. So there is a place for user feedback.

Apple has been very good to the community. Keep in mind they generate
no direct revenue from podcasting, and there's no way to quantify any
indirect revenue on their site at this time. I guess you could set up
an affiliate account and make some money sending people to iTunes but
they send way more people to us than we send to them.

I look forward to other big players following Apple's lead and
stepping up to the plate and creating a UI that is as good as or
better than Apple iTunes. Competition is a good thing.

It can be argued that iTunes isnt the same and cant be similarly

[videoblogging] Re: pointing feed to a blogger page vs. web-page?

2006-03-16 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

OK, i guess the keep-it-simple rule applies here on the forum, since i didn't get any replies from my kinda lengthy post yesterday  (I think i figured out the diff between embedding and enclosures on my own...)but 2 simple questions remain:are there any drawbacks to using one's own site for vodcasting, as opposed to vlogging via a blogspot page?ie) IF its possible to put up the XML subscription chicklet on one's own webpage, then i'm wondering what functional differences there might be?  forgive my ignorance, but is there a sizable contingency of bloggers doing this, or is it an against-the-grain minority?  I suppose i'd just have to surf out there to see, but i haven't had a chance to peruse too many vlogs unfortunately...(my web connection has been mostly limited to either cellphone when i'm in my RV, or sketchy web cafes when i'm traveling outside the country brazil currently... and that's part of the reason i'd ideally construct my vlog offline, and then just upload when i got to a web connection... vs. step by step posting in some expensive web cafe).  thanks to anyone who could lend their experience and advise me. i'd like to only have to maintain ONE space where people can subscribe to my videos, if possible.and i think I'd prefer that it be my own site's video page, as opposed to a blogger vlog...or perhaps maintaining the 2 could be somewhat automated...?ie) if my site's video page could be 'fed' the videos (somehow thru RSS?) as they're added to my blogger page?...have my site's video page "subscribe" to my blogger page's videos and update accordingly...  now that'd be great! hoping someone could please let me know if this is feasible or even possible to do.and IF this is a relatively common technique, then i'd surely appreciate any URLs which demonstrate good examples of this... thanks! ANY and ALL advice appreciated... thanks much Vlog on, Greg eklektro.net / los angeles currently blogging brazil !!

I don't give a shit about streaming. I want to keep everything as

  - Cell phone. We are working on both streaming to cell phone and
receiving videos from cell phones. Problem here is that everyone

I don't care about video on cells. I'm sure it will be an important

  - API. Looking at adding more features to the API to allow people
 to
create their own system and grab data on videos using XML-RPC.

  Good idear.

  - Syndication. Is being able to syndicate your video to other

furthering the reach of the video.

Yes. And RSS feeds are essential as well.

Also important: Being able to choose the license for my work.
 Keeping

- Cell phone. We are working on both streaming to cell phone and
receiving videos from cell phones. Problem here is that everyone has
their own standard. Too early? Does it matter?

- Webcam recording. Ability to record your video from your webcam or
capture card straight to the website. No encoding or uploading.

- Blog integration. Allowing you to easily publish the video to
blogger.com or other blog engines.

- Revenue sharing. We are looking at a model where we can optionally
provide video (post or pre-roll) ads and 50/50 revenue split it with
our partners. Does this matter or would you rather just see no video
ads at all.

- API. Looking at adding more features to the API to allow people to
create their own system and grab data on videos using XML-RPC.

- Syndication. Is being able to syndicate your video to other sites of
any value? The idea would be to have the option to publish your video
to other sites and then they can decide if they want it or not,
furthering the reach of the video.

RE: [videoblogging] blogger to wordpress

2006-01-18 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Funny, last week I ran the script that
ported all my old blogger entries to wordpress. Since blogger doesnt
have categories, the old ones ended up in the default category, but thats
easy to edit. The process was very easy...

Just do a google search on blogger
to wordpress for detailed instructions. If you want to see the results
the site is at sleepyblogger.com. I think I did it last weds or so, theres
a post saying that I am in the middle of the install, if you want the exact
date.

Also, since I did it this way, I didnt
have to decide to redirect. However, if you are hosting on blogspot (I wasnt)
I guess youd still have the issue to decide. My 2 cents on that would
be a 3 second redirect from a page that said This site has moved, if you arent
redirected, please click here ___. I did that when I initially
left the blogspot hosting months ago.

Feel free to email me personally on this.

Subject: [videoblogging] blogger
to wordpress

hey gang,

I am starting to redesign my site and move from blogger to wordpress

I know that i can import comments and posts and that i can have joshleo.blogspot.com forward
to joshleo.com/vlog (new
blog frontpage) when it is up and running. and I know that the old post
permalinks will not forward to my new permalinks but i am still unsure if old
permalinks forward to the standard site. example: joshleo.blogspot.com/01/2005/josh-is-cool.html
to joshleo.com/vlog (The new wordpress blog front page)

I know it wont forward to the post but hopefully the permalinks will forward somewhere?
maybe the blog front page?
