[videoblogging] Re: Non-XLR hand held Microphone
thanks for the info on hosa products, renat! i just googled the cable that's what came up. guess i should have done a little more research. i usually use neutriks but don't know if they have xlr to 1/8 cables. here's a list of xlr to mini on the bh site, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Mini-to-XLR-Cables/ci/4172/N/4294549271 --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, pageflex2001 innom...@... wrote: The Hosa XVM 101F is of very inferior quality. It works but the cable will break at connection points within a year. I had two of these, both broke at the same rate. I would even go further, avoid HOSA products altogether since this is a company that builtds its products from inferior materials. best Renat --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Richard Amirault ramirault@ wrote: - Original Message - From: Cris Thomas I am looking for a traditional hand held microphone to use for man-on-the-street news interviews. I know there are XLR converters which would be fine but all the ones I have seen are super huge and bulky, which kind of defeats the purpose of the small camera. So can anyone suggest a decent microphone with the right connector or a small XLR converter? Thanks. I *seriously* doubt your camcorder has a 1/4 mic jack ... most likely it's a 1/8 jack. How about something like this for an adaptor.. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/158476-REG/Hosa_Technology_XVM_101F_Mini_Stereo_Male_to.html (search for Hosa XVM 101F at bhphotovideo.com if link is broken) You'd need to add a regular XLR mic cable to reach from your subject to the camera and you'd need to use a dynamic mic or a condensor mic with a built-in battery since you won't have phantom power with this setup. couldn't you just get a decent xlr handheld and use an xlr to 1/8 cable like this one, http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XVM115F/ -carlos --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, calebjc cale...@... wrote: I think the famous Sure 57 is still viable with converters no?? [videoblogging] Job Opening: Education Coordinator for Brooklyn Community Access TV
dear friends, educators and compadres in grassroots media, we have an opening for a full-time education coordinator here at bcat. the person who had been the education coordinator before was a wonderful addition to our small team of instructors but he left bcat to pursue production work with one of the big boyz: viacom. the reason i bring this up is because the ideal person for this job is someone who is committed to the social purpose of media and not just someone who wants to be a filmmaker. i don't mean this to disparage folks whose ambition is to create content and affect change through their work but the person we need is someone who understands the importance of educating their community on how communications tools can work technically to aid in relating your ideas, thoughts, and experiences and politically to pacify, distract and compel to action. in other words, a media activist who advocates for media reform in both their vocational and creative pursuits. i know that's asking a lot given the entry level starting salary but if you know someone who fits the bill, please forward this email or the attached document. thanks, carlos *** JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Education Coordinator Located in the heart of Brooklyn's cultural district in Fort Greene, Brooklyn Community Access Television (BCAT) is Brooklyn's public access cable television franchise. hey people, i'm not too vocal in this group but i do read as many posts as i'm able and have gleaned much tech-knowledge from this group that i've been incorporating into the education program at the public access station in brooklyn, ny where i work (http://bcat.tv/bcat/default.asp). i also participated in the recent videoblogging week, vlogging here,http://seelosurbanista.blogspot.com/ i'm trying to post more often and was able to get one clip since vlbog week up about the graffiti research lab's demo of laser taggin' at pratt. you are an inspiring group and i hope to meet many of you during the upcoming vloggercon. as a new yorker, i'm leaning to my hometown but given the impact this technology has had on the political process (check here for how van jones put it during the past national conference for media reform in memphis, http://youtube.com/watch?v=n2z6nOOO-2Y) and my media activist roots thrill to the idea of resistance on the streets of dc (and what's vlogging but defiance in the face of corporatized comunication) i'm putting my vote for ***DC*** getting off his soapbox thankful for the franchise :) paz, carlos I like the East Coast too.!
