Unexpected scoring results

2017-07-18 Thread Jeff Wallace
On a legacy product that is still based upon Lucene-3.6.2, we (or our
customers) occasionally encounter a situation like this:
For what ever reason, a customer causes more than one duplicate source
document to be ingested into the same index.
A subsequent query whose criteria selects these duplicate documents can
sometimes report score values that differ considerable for the supposedly
duplicate content?

Searching through some of the older Lucene mail archives I did notice what
I believe to be discussions concerning development test failures having to
due with unexpected scoring results as past points in time.

Anyway, we do hope to soon upgrade to a newer version of Lucene (how new
will depend upon our ability to provide re-indexing capability to existing
customers' v3.6.2 existing indexes).
My question is: is it likely that this occasional scoring aberrations have
been fixed and/or reduced in later versions (say 5.x or 6.x)?

Thank you for any info.

Re: Exclusions.list not working

2016-06-15 Thread Jeff Wallace
Romain -
Thanks for the response.

I just downloaded the Zip, extracted it, manually copy my EAR into
TOMEE/apps, start TOMEE via 'catalina.bat start' in TOMEE/bin

I went into TOMEE/conf/context.xml and I don't have anything configured in
there.

The class that is getting picked up is an EJB. It lives inside of that
'calculation-svc' JAR

I will look into activating debug logs and see what I can find.

Exclusions.list not working

2016-06-15 Thread Jeff Wallace
I am using Apache Tomcat Version 7.0.55.

I am trying to get TOMEE to completely ignore a specific JAR of mine when
it loads up.

To do this, I created {TOMEE}/conf/exclusions.list
and this is the entire contents of the that file ::

default-list
calculation-svc-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT

For some reason though, after restarting TOMEE it still continues to pick
up classes from within that JAR.

Am I missing something?

I can see from the catalina log, that it looks like TOMEE is trying to pull
in exclusions, but it's not finding any. Plus, it appears to be doing it
twice. Not sure if that's normal or not. Below is the log output ::
Jun 15, 2016 2:32:22 PM org.apache.openejb.config.NewLoaderLogic
getExclusions
INFO: Loaded classpath exclusions from:
C:\Applications\tomee\conf\exclusions.list
Jun 15, 2016 2:32:22 PM org.apache.openejb.config.NewLoaderLogic
getExclusions
INFO: Loaded classpath exclusions from:
C:\Applications\tomee\conf\exclusions.list

For additional resources, I also have a discussion about this issue on

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1063402] Re: Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 testing Alternate install after initial login the Incomplete Language Support dialog box appears.

2012-10-19 Thread Jeff Wallace
I don't think I can't add anything insightful here, but I experienced
this in my first login after installing Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 with the
alternate-installer CD image. During the install, I'd selected English
as my language as well as a US English keyboard (the default choice).

Clicking on the Run this action now on the popup dialog (same one that
warren submitted), pulled up the Language Support dialog, in which
English (United States) and English were both available.Further, the
Install / Remove Languages... dialog had English indicated as
installed -- so there did not appear to be meaningful changes to make as
I wasn't interested in other languages.

No. Work had been started on porting for such a FOSS version but the

lack of experienced C++/GUI programmers pretty much stalled progress

(only one person has been able to contribute the lion's share of the

effort). The amount of work to port the C++ Windows GUI code from MFC

and XtremeToolKit has been daunting.

The current version will run under Wine. Also, VirtualBox works very

well for running CyberBoard. I've also run it under VMWare server on

Linux but I've been gravitating to VirtualBox of late.

I'm exploring other ways to open source CyberBoard with the

XtremeToolKit dependency removed and relying on a newer version of MFC

to move the program into the future. At least those tools are widely

available to Windows programmers.

A side benefit of that approach is that I have real-time play partially

implemented using the excellent RakNet multi-player toolkit. RakNet

provides a license for open source software.

Bug#557260: totem: Can't play xvid files

2009-11-20 Thread Jeff Wallace
Subject: totem: Can't play xvid files
Package: totem
Version: 2.28.3-1
Severity: important

Trying to play an xvid video in totem and nothing happens. Totem loads but
doesn't start playing, and time cannot be scrolled.

I have a feeling this has something to do with gstreamer or ffmpeg, because
thumbnails no longer show up properly either.
