[Bug 2066097] [NEW] No icon in Applications menu on MATE

2024-05-18 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

There is no icon in my Applications menu on Ubuntu MATE. Going to
preferences it doesn't show up either.

The .desktop file seems correct so I don't know what is causing this.

Package: kdenlive
Version: 4:23.08.4-1~ubuntu22.04.1

Tried assigning this to the PPA but I don't know if it has worked or
not.

** Affects: kdenlive

[Bug 2063860] [NEW] eatmydata is not installable on i386

2024-04-26 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

eatmydata saves a lot of time when building i386 packages, but it is not
installable on Jammy i386.

# apt install eatmydata
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
eatmydata : Depends: libeatmydata1 (>= 130-2build1) but it is not installable

The package is available from the archives so I don't know what is
causing this.

[Bug 2062075] Re: installer does not detect an installation of DragonflyBSD with UFS, HAMMER, or HAMMER2 filesystems

2024-04-19 Thread Ken Sharp
I **thought** there was a ufs-utils package but I must have dreamt it.
There is a kernel module for UFS though.

The HAMMER filesystems were never ported anywhere outside of DFBSD that
I know of.

Tested Mantic for funsies and the behaviour is the same.

It is an issue with Jammy too. I sent it to Ubiquity because that's what
the QA instructions said to do. Hopefully it's correct.

[Bug 2062075] Re: Ubuntu installer does not detect other operating systems

2024-04-19 Thread Ken Sharp
Tried Win10/NTFS again and it seemed to work. I installed Win10 updates
but I'd be surprised if that made a difference. Possibly a file system
issue last time I tested. Tried Win11/NTFS too and it found that.

With DragonflyBSD, though, the issue is the same. I'd expect the HAMMER
file systems to fail but UFS to be detected.

“Select Install Kubuntu XX.XX alongside SYSTEM YY
(SYSTEM YY is the name of the system already installed on disk (Kubuntu
12.04, Windows 7, ...)”

With DragonflyBSD installed, the installer cannot see it and the option

Bug description:
During installation of Edubuntu daily, and after choosing French as
the language, you are first greeted with mostly English, but you are
asked if you would like to upgrade the installer.

Doing so updates the installer and exits. You are left with an all
  English live session.

Upon restarting the installer a lot of the English has been replaced
with French, but not all of it.

When reaching the point in which you are asked if you would like to
install the full or minimized(sic) desktop, the options are in
  English.

The rest seems okay except that the slides are all in English.

[Bug 2062563] [NEW] edubuntu-menu-admin settings have no effect

2024-04-19 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

Instructions from the QA testing:

Open the Activities Overview and type "Edubuntu Menu Administration"
The main window will come up with some pre-selected items.
Choose an item or items to remove from the application overview.
REMEMBER THIS/THESE ITEM(S)!
Click "Apply (Password Required)", enter your password.
Click "Close".
Go to Settings
Go to Users. Unlock. Enter your password.
Add a user. Make sure this user is not an administrator. Set a password.
Click "Add".
Log Out
Log in as this new user
Verify that items selected in Edubuntu Menu Administration are NOT shown in the
Applications Overview

This fails.

I tried removing the Ask Ubuntu and Edubuntu Install shortcuts from the
menu for a new, unprivileged, user "test" and it made no difference:
both are still there. I also tried adding Atomix and BASIC256 but they
don't appear on test's menu.

[Bug 2062075] Re: Ubuntu installer does not detect other operating systems

2024-04-19 Thread Ken Sharp
Turns out it can detect a previous install of Kubuntu, but when
rebooting the Grub screen isn't even shown (I assume it defaults to 0
seconds - sorry I haven't checked on that yet).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2062415] Re: A program's icons do not show until the user logs back in

2024-04-18 Thread Ken Sharp
** Summary changed:

- Following a minimal install, installing Firefox does not create an icon
+ A program's icons do not show until the user logs back in

** Description changed:

While testing Kubuntu Noble daily I chose a "minimal" install, which
does not include a web browser.

Afterwards I chose to install Firefox "sudo apt install firefox". This
downloads snapd, the snap package and so on.

When it is finished there is no icon in the program menu. (Screenshot)

  Also:

I was going to log this separately but I suspect the cause is the
  same...

When attempting to report this bug with "ubuntu-bug firefox" the
application fails to open Firefox to continue, instead opening Kate with
  some HTML code (Screenshot).
+
+ Update: I tried Chromium and Thunderbird too - it's apparently an issue
+ with snaps. Logging out and back in "fixes" the issues.

** Package changed: firefox (Ubuntu) => snap (Ubuntu)

[Bug 2062402] Re: kubuntu live lock screen renders session useless

2024-04-18 Thread Ken Sharp
The default settings are to lock the screen after one minute. That's not
even long enough to file a bug report.

** Description changed:

While testing the Kubuntu Noble daily live environment my session
locked, though I never asked it to nor did I get the change to set any
  preferences, and refused to unlock.

Supposedly the default password is empty, but entering an empty password
refuses to get it to unlock. I am forced to reset the VM.
+
+ P.S. I don't know where to assign this yet.

Immediately upon booting the Kubuntu Noble daily live environment I
attempted to change my language to English (UK), and I was greeted with

am attaching it.

[Bug 2062400] [NEW] segfault during install after changing language

2024-04-18 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

Immediately upon booting the Kubuntu Noble daily live environment I
attempted to change my language to English (UK), and I was greeted with
an error dialog about Kwin.

The dialog had a process of sending a bug report but it claimed that the
"backtrace is not useful" and would not proceed. I saved it anyway and
am attaching it.

[Bug 2062075] [NEW] Ubuntu installer does not detect other operating systems

2024-04-17 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

As part of the QA ISO testing I have hit upon the following issue:

“Select Install Kubuntu XX.XX alongside SYSTEM YY
(SYSTEM YY is the name of the system already installed on disk (Kubuntu 12.04,
Windows 7, ...)”

With DragonflyBSD installed, the installer cannot see it and the option
to install alongside is never shown. Tried with UFS, HAMMER and HAMMER2.

Tried again with Windows 10 and NTFS, and the issue is exactly the same.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Title:
  LibreOffice crashes under load.

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  lsb_release -rd
  Description:Ubuntu Hirsute Hippo (development branch)
  Release:21.04

  apt-cache policy libreoffice
  libreoffice:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 1:7.0.3-0ubuntu1
Version table:
   1:7.0.3-0ubuntu1 500
  500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/universe amd64 Packages

I expect to be able to open all of LibreOffice's apps at once and use
  them.

If you open all the LibreOffice applications and then select a
template for LibreOffice Writer, they all close immediately, reopen,
and offer to recover any lost data.

Error reports may have been sent. I am not sure as this is Hirsute and
  I'm testing it.
