Hmmm. I just subscribed to the CFCommunity list. Is it OK to post anything to
this list?
Fine by me... just want to understand the guidelines of the Community list.
Been on CF Talk list for years... this one list is new to me.
Thanks,
Robert
Welcome. We'll let Erika give you the muffin (long running joke
there), but the list was originally created to handle any off topic
stuff from CF-Talk. Since then its evolved into its own community.
Briefly put nearly anything goes - if we object you'll know about it.
We're pretty welcoming here

This is way cool. The description is a bit gross, but otherwise its an
amazing story of one of the foundational elements
Hey Robert, welcome. There is no such thing as off topic here. Well, maybe
the only thing off topic is questions about CF.

Will be here for several weeks.
What brings you to the home of the infamous Florida man who's in the
news all the time? I'm down in Sarasota a couple hours from the
Orlando area if a community gathering occurs.

I can only imagine the can of worms this has opened
I know many people who
think that forms of christianity that arent the same as theirs are not really
christian. Who will be deciding which denominations get their prayers read
aloud and which will be stifled.
Still shaking my head with
who decides. Given the example in Roanoke Virginia its going to be the
most obnoxious member of the town council I suspect. In this case the
gy is stating that if you're not Christian you don't have any freedom
of religion. As I said damned scary.

The pendulum is still swinging towards the intolerant right.
Get ready for more crazy in more places.

Welcome and I'd concur with Zaphod there. Anything off-topic for cf-talk is
on-topic for cf-community and vice-versa.

True dat. I don't think I've done anything in CF in...3 years? Though I do
miss it at times, just haven't had a good reason to program in it.

Actually after being out of CF for a while I'll be starting a brand
new CF job at the end of May.
BTW anyone in the DC area looking for a CF job? Booz-Allen is looking
for several CF developers - there's also a possibility of the position
being remote. Email me for the details or I can put you
In my new job (well, itÂs still new even though itÂs almost been a year),
itÂs 70% ruby, 10% javascript/node, 5% Bash, 5% Erlang, %5 Elixir 5% C++
really cool ecosphere to be in.

I'm doing almost all C# and SQL at the moment on a big ETL project.
Hopefully adding in some AngularJS in a bit. Also starting a side project
in Go working with the Orchestrate.io service.
I'm curious about how the Erlang, C++, and Bash get mixed in for you. And
never even heard of Elixir :)
The company IÂm working for is a real-time bidding platform for internet
advertising.
Our bidder is written in C++ for speed reasons,
Web app is built in ruby/rails because, well Rails ;) - This is where I spend
most of my time
Erlang is used for several smaller services inside of our org.
That's awesome. I was just looking at Elixir and it sure looks like Ruby
for Erlang, which is fascinating. Cool stuff.

Welcome Robert,
I hope you have thick skin, as the conversations trend toward US politics
and can get pretty heated at times :-)
Still, it's all great fun and many have been on this list 10+ years!

On Thursday, May 8, 2014,
I got called the day before yesterday and they started a script As a loyal
Democrat... and I had to interrupt them and point out that I'm not a
Democrat. Not a Democrat. Not giving you money.
Went and checked the Secretary of State's website and, sure enough, still
listed as a affiliated voter.
Not sure how your state handles it, but I know in IL, you have to either
vote in one party's primary and depending on which primary you voted in,
that is what determines your party affiliation.
