I was birding just outside Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, near Brainard
Lake, and had 4 robin-sized birds with grayish breasts fly over and land in
a nearby tree. I was able to get an audio of a call that they were making
(attached, admittedly poor quality, sorry) and Merlin couldn't
Oops. Hit “post” too soon. Indigo can hybridize with Lazuli. A hybrid might

Jace,
Did you consider Indigo Bunting? They are occasionally seen in the foothills in
spring and summer. Depending on the light, they can look bright blue to black.

Today while birding at gateway natural area in fort Collins me and my
family observed a bird that I was unable to identify even after extensive
research. The bird had a completely black body and a deep blue head. We saw
this bird twice in two different locations so there may be multiple. One

So I was hiking through Waterton Canyon when I noticed these flock. They
image was heavily cropped so the quality is terrible but I am sure there
are some experts that can tell by plumage pattern. The black tips and wide
wingspan reminds me of American Pelican but I'd figure they were all gone
Hybrid Lazuli x Indigo bunting.
I've seen birds just like this one near the Mesa Trail SW of Boulder where
there are hybrid buntings every summer.
