I will upload a Debian-Package with libuuid-support, thanks for the hint. Please do not yet as we might fix this internally in task. But more important we don't want to release a bug fix without having passed all our 3800 regression tests first and have coordinated with other bug fixes first. Thank you. /Fredde

Bug#572746: libm: sinf/cosf performance is awful on amd64
Ok, running sinf/cosf with bounded values gives better performance results (close to sin/cos ones). I think the binding trick should be written in the manpages as a note on amd64 (at least) because the behavior is different on i386 and clearly not expected... Anyway, I still can't get the performance I had on the same hardware : + 0.94 secs on 32 bits sinf/cosf without bound values + 1.07 secs on 64 bits sinf/cosf with manual binding. Do you know how the asm in the lib binds the input value (I mean for the optimised sin/cos versions for example) ? Jerome On Monday 08 March 2010, Aurelien Jarno wrote: Jerome Vizcaino a écrit : What do you mean sinf/cosf is supposed to be twice faster ? You're mentionning calling it with bound values ? Yes, with the current code and bounded values, it is twice faster. This is not the case anymore with the assembly code, as the same FPU instruction (fcos/fsin/fsincos) is used for the three versions (float, double, long double). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#568818: Not sure that the cl-swank problem is fixed?
Dear all - the version of CL-SWANK in unstable this morning still has the problem reported by Rupert -- while CLC (Common-lisp-controller) probably is fixed, it still doesn't export the function requested by CL-SWANK so that CLC can tell SWANK where to place the FASLs. Bug#471801: Bug#526878: Bug#504283: Bug#471801: egroupware adoption or removal?
Hi Ralf, On Saturday, 22. August 2009, Ralf Becker wrote: Independent of how EGroupware is maintained in Debian in future, I'm happy to work closer together with Debian Security Team, to get earlier information about exploits in embedded code and coordinate security fixes. If I'm going to maintain EGroupware in Debian, everyone can expect same-time releases of Debian packages (to experimental), as the other rpm packages or archives of EGroupware. I will of cause very like try to handle at least the Linux packages of EGroupware as close as possible together - thought in the past mostly rpm packages benefit from the already nice Debian packages. I made now many fixes and enhancements to our commercial Debian packages, which I plan to integrate (or report back) to Debian. Anyway most important for me is that EGroupware stays in Debian. I'm happy if we (EGroupware project) have a competent and timely available Debian maintainer, as we had in the past with Peter. I don't know, if you have noticed, but egroupware[1] was removed from testing, which results in releasing the next stable version of Debian _without_ egroupware. Actually the package has _no_ maintainer, so there is no work done to change this soon (and Debian ist freezing in the next days, so there is no time to relaxe, if this is intended to). While you released 1.6.003 these days I was remembered about the problem. As staying egroupware seems most important, the situation seems even more worse. With kind regards, Jan. Ah. gv works for me too. Do you perhaps have something odd below /usr/local which confuses ghostscript? Ghostscript also pulls data files from */usr/share. Try put aside /usr/local completely! And I wonder how all those binaries ended below /usr/lib - could it be that you've compiled a bunch of different stuff by hand and installed it as root? If so, I suspect that some install routines might accidentally have installed stuff below /usr too, and you do not really run a Debian system any longer :-( Not certain, though. A way forward could perhaps be to use strace to check which files are being touch prior to the crash. Bug#572201: linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64: forcedeth driver hangs under heavy load
So I changed all 45 nodes in the cluster back to the 2.6.32 kernel and restarted a test job. After 15-20 minutes, some of the nodes had dropped out - responding still to pings, but impossible to ssh to them. Output from one node as follows (after connecting to console), Ben Hutchings wrote: We'll want to see the kernel log (output from dmesg) after this happens, even if you can't spot anything in it. The problem first started at 08:56 - as you can see the last messages in /var/log/kern.log are from 08:31 (just after booting) - the output from dmesg is identical Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.102710] sdc1 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.102890] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI disk Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.104582] sda1 sda2 sda5 sda6 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.131101] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI disk Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.133794] sd 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.133824] sd 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.133849] sd 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.133875] sd 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.133970] sr 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg4 type 5 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.324705] PM: Starting manual resume from disk Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.339131] EXT4-fs (sda1): INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [9.339135] EXT4-fs (sda1): write access will be enabled during recovery Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 10.429924] EXT4-fs (sda1): recovery complete Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 10.430834] EXT4-fs (sda1): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.227223] udev: starting version 151 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.447716] processor LNXCPU:00: registered as cooling_device0 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.448024] processor LNXCPU:01: registered as cooling_device1 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.448329] processor LNXCPU:02: registered as cooling_device2 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.448646] processor LNXCPU:03: registered as cooling_device3 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.448950] processor LNXCPU:04: registered as cooling_device4 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.449253] processor LNXCPU:05: registered as cooling_device5 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.449557] processor LNXCPU:06: registered as cooling_device6 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.449858] processor LNXCPU:07: registered as cooling_device7 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.584225] i2c i2c-0: nForce2 SMBus adapter at 0x2d00 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.584244] i2c i2c-1: nForce2 SMBus adapter at 0x2e00 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.614078] input: PC Speaker as /devices/platform/pcspkr/input/input5 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.699803] EDAC MC: Ver: 2.1.0 Jan 10 2010 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.826247] EDAC amd64_edac: Ver: 3.2.0 Jan 10 2010 Mar 9 08:31:11 node20 kernel: [ 11.826765] Error: Driver 'pcspkr' is already registered, aborting... Bug#573132: gworkspace.app: GWorkspace crashes when switching to list view mode
Package: gworkspace.app Version: 0.8.6-1+b2 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** In some cases switching to list view mode crashes GWorkspace. If the application starts up with the file viewer in browser mode (e.g. because that was the last view mode before closing), and the first thing I do is switch to list view mode, the application crashes. The same thing happens if I browse to some other directory on the file system first and then switch to list mode. Bug#573133: arbtt: idle time computation does not work as expected
Package: arbtt Version: 0.4.5.1-1 Severity: important Hi, I finally found some time to try arbtt. It looks like a great tool, but somehow does not produce reasonable stats for me. I tried to use the inactive tag as documented: $idle 60 == tag inactive, However the whole night appears in the stats. I therefore had a look at the ouput of arbtt-dump, specifically the cLastActivity numbers. They seem to range between 0 and 14. During the time I was asleep the numbers were around 0 to 40. This made me digg in the source. The numbers seem to be deduced from Graphics.X11.XScreenSaver.getXIdleTime and the unit is said to be milli-seconds. Now comparing with my data this sounds wrong. Do I need xscreensaver packages for arbtt? I don't have those installed. Helmut -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The same bug on Ubuntu is #441835 here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/devicekit-disks/+bug/441835 On March 1 the status is Fix Released. It says the change is in udisks. Bug#573170: dpkg-dev: dpkg-source - debian/patches/debian-changes-* is built too early (format quilt 3.0)
Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.15.5.6 Severity: normal TEST CASE 1. Upstream sources includes files that should not be there. Like backup *~ files 2. In debian/rules, the dh_clean would remove these *~ files, but then the version control (git) wouldn't be happy as these are part of the original sources. Solution:the files are temporarily moved under other name so that they can be restores: *~ = *~.original 3. Unfortunately dpkg-source thinks that there are now local changes and before debian/rules::build is run, it concludes dpkg-source: info: local changes stored in ccbuild.git/debian/patches/debian-changes-1.5.7-2, the modified files are: ccbuild.git/src/MD5Info/MD5Hash/GCrypt/GCrypt.cc~.original ccbuild.git/src/MD5Info/MD5Hash/GCrypt/GCrypt.hh~.original ccbuild.git/src/SourceScanner/yylex.cc ccbuild.git/src/ccbuild.cc~.original But we wouldn't want these recorded. SUGGESTION The generating of debian/patches/debian-changes* should happen as late as possible. Now it's too early. Best, if this could be done, say, in debian/rules::binary-arch somewhere (dh_builddeb?). This would give a chnage to modify the sources, and restore them prior building the *.deb and associated *.diff. Attached are the debian/rules for inspection and the build.log. It only occurs in a graphical user session. I have narrowed it down: it only occurs in _my_ GDM session. If I create a new user and login as this user, the problem does not occur. Actually it could be your CPU or RAM. Please run a full memtest86, at least. The memory checked out alright. It would seem like a hradware problem, though --- if it were not limited to my sessions. It has nothing to do with load, either --- the memory test put the CPUs under quite some stress, and temperatures soared --- without causing any problems. Then I did some video encoding with a lot of load as well as memory and harddisk usage --- again without any problems. In all cases a hardware lockup cannot be caused solely by userland. I do realise that. That is why I believe it must be some program with suid rights --- like GDM. Even for programs running as root, a power down without proper shutdown should never happen. Do you still have this problem today? If so maybe dmesg or syslog has a clue? Cheers, Julien signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#573141: exim4-config: update-exim4.conf strips required characters from dc_other_hostnames
Package: exim4-config Version: 4.71-3 Severity: normal I have a regular expression that I want to put into MAIN_LOCAL_DOMAINS, so that it ends up as MAIN_LOCAL_DOMAINS=@:localhost:5200-glenwood.net:^[^.]+\$ The backslash before the $ is required in order to make exim interpret the $ as an anchor and not as the start of a parameter expansion. If the backslash isn't there, exim issues an error to the paniclog whenever mail is sent. In order to set this up with update-exim4.conf, I tried setting dc_other_hostnames='5200-glenwood.net;^[^.]+\\$' But update-exim4.conf strips both backslashes away, so there's none in MAIN_LOCAL_DOMAINS. So next I tried dc_other_hostnames='5200-glenwood.net;^[^.]+$' But then update-exim4.conf complains that /usr/sbin/update-exim4.conf: non-ascii value 5200-glenwood.net;^[^.]+\$ read from /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf, sanitizing to 5200-glenwood.net;^[^.]+\$ So it seems that at present, it's not possible to do this with dc_other_domains. As a workaround, I put the assignment of MAIN_LOCAL_DOMAINS directly into my exim configuration. That works fine. Bug#573115: ghostscript: all PDF files give Error: /undefined
Greetings Jonas, So gs works, but gv fails (though when gv reports the error, it reports it as a GPL Ghostscript error...) Ah. gv works for me too. Ah... Ghostscript also pulls data files from */usr/share. Try put aside /usr/local completely! I did that: mv /usr/local /usr/local.aside but my gv still fails with the same message :-) And I wonder how all those binaries ended below /usr/lib - could it be that you've compiled a bunch of different stuff by hand and installed it as root? Yes, that I have done; but always into /usr/local, AFAIK If so, I suspect that some install routines might accidentally have installed stuff below /usr too, Well that would be very naughty of them. I did do the upgrade lenny to squeeze which is when the gv problem seem to have arisen, and haven't really compiled much by hand since. gv is the only program that's giving me problems. Not certain, though. A way forward could perhaps be to use strace to check which files are being touch prior to the crash. But that's beyond me, so can't really help there. I ran: box8 strace -o /tmp/t gv ~/www/muscript/samples/courante.pdf and I can see gv doing: pipe([7, 8]) not sure what that does because I don't know where 8 came from, and then it polls file-descriptor 7 a lot, eventually getting the answer: box8 grep '(7' /tmp/t | less read(7, Error: /undefined, 512) = 17 read(7, in copy_trailer_attrs\nOperand s..., 512) = 512 read(7, ack:\n --dict:1159/1684(ro)(G)-..., 512) = 197 close(7)= 0 so the error looks like it's coming from a gs process, just like gv is reporting that it does. Ken Sharp, of gs-bugs, says: Hmm, sounds like either its gv, or possibly its somehow linking against a different version of Ghostscript, maybe an old one. Can I force-reinstall ghostscript and/or gv ? But there's certainly no files from /usr/local/ being accessed: box8 grep usr /tmp/t | less execve(/usr/bin/gv, [gv, /home/pjb/www/muscript/samples/c...], [/* 39 vars */]) = 0 open(/usr/lib/libXaw3d.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libXmu.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libXt.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libX11.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libXinerama.so.1, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libSM.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libICE.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libXext.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libXpm.so.4, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libxcb.so.1, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libXau.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.6, O_RDONLY) = 3 open(/usr/share/X11/locale/locale.alias, O_RDONLY) = 4 open(/usr/share/X11/locale/locale.dir, O_RDONLY) = 4 access(/usr/share/X11/locale/C/XLC_LOCALE, R_OK) = 0 open(/usr/share/X11/locale/C/XLC_LOCALE, O_RDONLY) = 4 open(/usr/share/X11/locale/locale.alias, O_RDONLY) = 4 open(/usr/share/X11/locale/locale.dir, O_RDONLY) = 4 access(/usr/share/X11/locale/C/XLC_LOCALE, R_OK) = 0 open(/usr/share/X11/locale/C/XLC_LOCALE, O_RDONLY) = 4 access(/usr/lib/X11/en_AU.utf8/app-defaults/GV, R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) access(/usr/lib/X11/en/app-defaults/GV, R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) access(/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/GV, R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/gv/gv_system.ad, O_RDONLY) = 4 stat64(/usr/lib/X11/Xcms.txt, 0xbf99e744) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/lib/libXcursor.so.1, O_RDONLY) = 4 open(/usr/lib/libXrender.so.1, O_RDONLY) = 4 open(/usr/lib/libXfixes.so.3, O_RDONLY) = 4 open(/usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB, O_RDONLY) = 4 open(/usr/share/icons/default/cursors/watch, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/pixmaps/default/cursors/watch, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/pixmaps/default/index.theme, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/icons/default/cursors/crosshair, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/pixmaps/default/cursors/crosshair, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/pixmaps/default/index.theme, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/icons/default/cursors/plus, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/pixmaps/default/cursors/plus, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/pixmaps/default/index.theme, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/icons/default/cursors/top_left_arrow, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/pixmaps/default/cursors/top_left_arrow, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No

That's why I suggested to ignore the description and simply take the new version. I will do that anyway (might take some time to find a sponsor, though), but I would also like to understand the problem. In case it isn't clear: this assertion error is very weird and might just be a symptom of a problem that has nothing to do with the symlinks package. Could be a bug in libc6, the kernel or your hardware. There has been a similar report in bug #566947¹, except that that bug occurred on rather exotic hardware. No. I have a working and already proposed a way to fix it. If there's something to be fixed I would like to know what it is in the first place. The only function that calls malloc() has not changed at all between 1.2 and 1.4. If you want to know if the bug is in the original 1.2 or in the debian specific patches, You can packages 1.4 with all the fixes and I will retest it. As I said, the problem may actually be elsewhere. Anyway, I found indeed a bug in my patch for #61140², but I find it hard to imagine how that could lead to a malloc assertion error. Bug#573168: gallery2: Removal of uploadapplet makes it impossible to reinstall
Package: gallery2 Version: 2.3.1.dfsg-1 Severity: normal The new gallery2 removes the uploadapplet module. OK, per the previous bug that seems to have been aged out by now, since the admin page was now unusuable I downgraded to 2.3.1-1 and deinstalled uploadapplet. I upgraded again, went to Get More Plugins and tried to Download uploadapplet. Unfortunately, while both the previously installed version and the version in the experimental repository are listed as 1.0.11, the build in the repository (20953) is lower than the one that is listed as currently installed (20955) and it consequently won't let me install the new one. Choosing the currently installed one doesn't work - it simply says No packages have been selected. I'm not sure if this means that my gallery has gotten into an unstable state with all of the plugin removal messiness or if this is how it is supposed to work (remembering deinstalled plugins when there are no traces of them left on the filesystem). -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gallery2 depends on: ii apache2 2.2.14-7Apache HTTP Server metapackage ii apache2-mpm-prefork [httpd] 2.2.14-7Apache HTTP Server - traditional n ii debconf [debconf-2.0]1.5.28 Debian configuration management sy ii imagemagick 7:6.5.8.3-1 image manipulation programs ii libapache2-mod-php5 5.3.1-5 server-side, HTML-embedded scripti ii libphp-adodb 5.09a-1 The ADOdb database abstraction lay ii mysql-client-5.0 [mysql-clie 5.0.84-1MySQL database client binaries ii netpbm 2:10.0-12.1 Graphics conversion tools between ii php5 5.3.1-5 server-side, HTML-embedded scripti ii php5-cgi 5.3.1-5 server-side, HTML-embedded scripti ii php5-mysql 5.3.1-5 MySQL module for php5 ii smarty 2.6.26-0.1 Template engine for PHP ii wwwconfig-common 0.2.1 Debian web auto configuration Versions of packages gallery2 recommends: ii dcraw 8.86-1decode raw digital camera images ii ffmpeg 5:0.5+svn20100208-0.1 audio/video encoder, streaming ser ii jhead 1:2.90-2 manipulate the non-image part of E ii libjpeg-progs 8-2.1 Programs for manipulating JPEG fil ii php5-gd5.3.1-5 GD module for php5 ii unzip 6.0-4 De-archiver for .zip files ii zip3.0-3 Archiver for .zip files Versions of packages gallery2 suggests: ii mysql-server 5.0.84-1 MySQL database server (metapackage ii mysql-server-5.0 [mysql-serve 5.0.84-1 MySQL database server binaries -- debconf information: * gallery2/mysql/dbserver: localhost * gallery2/restart-webserver: true * gallery2/webserver_type: apache, apache-ssl, apache-perl, apache2 * gallery2/mysql/dbname: gallery2 * gallery2/mysql/configure: true * gallery2/purge: false * gallery2/mysql/dbadmin: root -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#573074: symlinks: Please update to 1.4, it fixes assertion in malloc in a use case I have
On 03/09/2010 02:02 PM, Sven Joachim wrote: I will do that anyway (might take some time to find a sponsor, though), but I would also like to understand the problem. Come on: the symlinks program has a protected address space that is protected so nothing is going to corrupt the malloc internal free buffer management except code executed the program itself. Now, and I can follow you on libc6, there are other functions that do do return pointers (but generally its a global/static buffer not a malloced one and you should not/never call free). But exposing a NEW bug in libc6 is something strange. Kernel/hardware/libc6 does not change and the problem vanish. As I said, the problem may actually be elsewhere. Anyway, I found indeed a bug in my patch for #61140², but I find it hard to imagine how that could lead to a malloc assertion error. a free of an address returned by a non reentrant function could perfectly cause it (try the _r version with explicit buffer allocation) -- eric * This message and any attachments (the message) are confidential and intended solely for the addressees. Bug#551330: Problem solved with kernel 2.6.33 with KMS enabled
Ben Hutchings b...@decadent.org.uk (05/03/2010): Ben, does reassigning such bugs against the kernel sound OK? Shall I do so for other kernel-related bugs in X itself, or in the video drivers? Maybe marking them as “found” in the latest version users tried with? Bugs should be assigned to whichever package needs to be changed. I don't know why you think this is a special situation... I'm just unfamiliar with possibly-kernel-related bugs, and wanted to make sure not to screw up with those. I'll continue poking submitters once 2.6.32-10 is available and reassign accordingly. Bug#553412: imapsync: Please remove imapsync package from Debian.
Hello Michael, Now it seems you are contradicting yourself. No problem. Packagers not reading INSTALL files are bad Of course. but packagers finding the dependencies by hand are bad too? No, I never said that. Packagers finding the dependencies by hand are good. Packagers finding the dependencies by hand and by using tools and by reading are good good good. Packagers never doing mistakes anyway how they proceed are good good good good++. (this kind of packager simply doesn't exist) [...] The dependencies happen to match exactly what you specify in your INSTALL file (except Digest::MD5 is missing, as this is now packaged with base perl). Conclusion: you have time to spend to write useless email like I do. And now to something productive: Debian should just upgrade to a newer upstream version to fix the bug. It's not productive since Debian stable never upgrade to a newer upstream version to fix a bug, unless for a security bug. Did you consider checking which releases of debian 1.286 is in? Hint: stable contains 1.252 See: http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=imapsync Ok. That's worst than I though. Stable is two years old late (will be three or four until switch) The on the edge yeah Unstable is one year old late. Please remove imapsync package from Debian. We can conclude that debian stable is unstable by all the no-security then no-fixed bugs. This has upsides and downsides. Consider the admin that made an ugly workaround for a bug in stable, Why does he make an ugly workaround for a bug in stable? Because of a bug? A bug? Fix the bug or ask for a fix! Contact the upstream developer! that would break if the bug were fixed (which is a common property of bugs needing an ugly workaround). No. You take the issue by reverse. No rule never fix any bug in stable = no ugly workaround (or few few fewer). A workaround is a bug fix, a wrong one since something is changed, a fix is done, but the software is still the two years old unstable one. The good way to keep bugs and to be two years late: the Debian way. If an update withing stable suddenly fixes the bug, the workaround breaks. The idea of stable is to get security updates without having to worry about this kind of issues on update. Ok. Debian prefer bugs on bugs than fixing actual bugs. A matter of taste? Maybe. I know why Debian prefer bugs on bugs. Ugly workaround is just bad laziness. Since packagers don't contact upstream developers, I'm not surprised they do ugly workaround instead of actual fixes. It seems that the upstream softwares are diamonds no packager could ever try to fix. Did one Debian packager ever try to? The surprising thing is that the upstream developers received bug reports from actual users about ugly workarounds from lazy-fake-stable distributions. I do. And yes: I have been annoyed by unfixed bugs in stable, too, even up to the point of recompiling patched packages. Silly. Packages are a long time packager work made for users to spend less of their time. Not the contrary. One person spend several hours to avoid thousand hours spent by users, even if they spend less hours each than the packager. I was happy with Debian until woody, I could upgrade by remote without crossing my fingers. It was the only Linux distribution permitting this. Since Woody/Sarge I know I have to be in front ofthe computer to upgrade: I always have to fix some services, sometimes, the boot level. I have to become an expert for a time on some services. Thanks to me, I am. Thousand of users are not. Not happy with old and unstable Stable Debian? No problem. I switch to other free Unix distributions, on the edge and stable. -- Au revoir, 02 99 64 31 77 Gilles Lamiral. Bug#470960: 6.7.8.2: point 4 (use foo-ver.orig for repacked tarballs) seems backwards
Le Fri, Mar 14, 2008 at 07:40:23PM +, Jon Dowland a écrit : Quoting 6.7.8.2 Repackaged upstream source point 4: [A repackaged .orig.tar.gz] should use packagename-upstream-version.orig as the name of the top-level directory in its tarball. This makes it possible to distinguish pristine tarballs from repackaged ones. That would suggest you would have foo-ver pristine upstream tarball foo-ver.origrepacked upstream tarball This seems to be confusing. I think common practice is to append to the upstream version, either dfsg (if that's why you have repacked) or other tags depending on the reason. I think this point (4) should be dropped, and the version-tagging expanded. Dear Jon and everybody, I just read #470960 and agree with Jon's comment. It is strange to signal that a package is repacked by appending ‘.orig’ to the name of its top level directory. I am not aware of any of our infrastructures that would rely on this string to detect repacking, and my impression is that this recommendation of the Developers Reference is largely ignored, so this suggests that we could safely recommend to use another suffix than ‘.orig’. How about ‘.repacked’? That would be straightforward for everybody. Jon proposes that when a string is appended to the version number itself, it is not necessary to add a suffix to the tarball's top level directory. This could be added as an exception to the recommendation. Bug#572880: video-radeon: frequent lockups on suspend to disk/resume with KMS
On 7 Mar 2010, Hramrach verbalised: I have upgraded the system to get KMS working and now the system would lockup about once in three tries when doing suspend to disk/resume. I suspect this is related to KMS but I had to upgrade quite a bit of stuff to get it working so I cannot be sure. Bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26872 is a bisection of a 100%-reproducible (for me) lockup in KMS suspension in 2.6.33. It may be related. (Then again it may not: your lockup is not consistently reproducible. I'm not sure how we can get useful debugging info out at freeze time. Will even a netconsole work?) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#564276: or remove all references to Ubuntu Canonical
Package: software-center Version: 1.1debian1 Severity: normal I think it'll make sense if canonical mantained derived to the main section in Debian repositories. In the way of debianizing the package, it'll also be nice if the docs were edited, and proposed for translation in the i18n list. I'll do spanish :) I looked at the sources too, and the pot files are also ubuntized. Same thing, edit, call, and we'll translate :) Regards, Omar -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Mine does not seem to be caused by KMS, the same kernel locks up on suspend without KMS. Also I see a pattern with the lockups: when I test if suspend/resume is working it does not lockup most of the time but when I am finished with testing and start normal applications (most notably Firefox) the system locks up on suspend most of the time. I do not see any messages at the point when the sytem locks up. The only message on the screen is s2disk: Snapshotting system. Normally I get additional messages before and after this message but in this case it stays indefinitely with the fan running at top speed. Bug#573174: libpolyorb1-dev: NF-27-IC22-022 in polyorb
Package: libpolyorb1-dev Version: 2.6.0~20090423-5 Severity: wishlist On the way to have homogeneous code I'm usually using -gnaty option for building my code. But If I use this option within polyorb environment I get some errors in the generated code. 2.7 version polyorb [1] implements some code to avoid this. The modifications to the code of po_gnatdist are rather simple [2], can we think about apply a simple patch to ship a polyorb 2.6.0~201003xx-1 version ? Bug#572691: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#572691: /sbin/mount.smbfs: samba shares can no longer be mounted by user

Why isn't fusesmb not sufficient? This package is already in Debian, and is what the NEWS file in bzr points at. Because it does not allow mounting shares. It just allows browsing the network. It's a completely different function. For example, it is not possible to have it ask for a password when connecting to a share or it is not possible to connect to a share which is not advertised on the local ethernet segment. I guess I can manually set the binary suid root in my debian-live images until a fix is available. In the next upload, cifs-utils will not support running suid at all, per upstream. Then I should stay clear of that upload I guess as there is no way to mount cifs shares as user after that in Debian. Bug#573159: linux/socket.h lacks typedef of sa_family_t
On Tue, Mar 09, 2010 at 02:20:14PM +0100, Guido Günther wrote: Package: linux-libc-dev Version: 2.6.32-9 Severity: normal Hi, linux/netlink.h includes linux/socket.h for the definition of sa_family_t (see the comment in that file). However the shipped linux/socket.h doesn't contain that typedef. The upstream kernel headers include the typedef. Please add this to socket.h since otherwise compilation of userspace programs (e.g. the check for macvtap in libvirt) fails. This change went upstream in 2.6.33 so userland will have to deal with it. There is no point in reverting it.
