Bug#572417: tidary XSS

2010-03-07 Thread Steffen Joeris
Hi Hideki

Indeed this should be fixed via a DSA and for unstable as well.
I am still having slight problems understanding the XSS issue here.
Apparently, to_native() is converting it to another encoding, but shouldn't it
do some escaping of certain characters to avoid having the usual html
characters in there?
I also don't understand the text on tdiary.org, since it is in Japanese, could
you maybe provide a translation?
I'm sure that I'm just missing something here, so once I understand it better,
we can just proceed with DSA/NMU.

Cheers
Steffen

Marc, could you try to build 1.9.1.376-1 on lebrun and/or spontini?

Done on lebrun, this time with a build log (attached). This shows the same
behaviour I saw when building .378-1 manually, it just hangs in the test
suite.

I'm not sure that, I'll ask upstream author.
IE has a strange behavior with auto-encoding pages without charset, it probably
 relates that.

I also don't understand the text on tdiary.org, since it is in Japanese,
 could
 you maybe provide a translation?

* Overview
XSS vulnerability was found in tDiary, a communication-friendly weblog system.
We think it is rare case but please deal with that as soon as possible if you
 are using such system.

 - This problem affects
  * tDiary 2.2.2 or earlier (full set and plugins)

And, if you meet _all_ condition below
  * tb-send.rb plugin is enabled
  * using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (IE7)
  * update diary via malicious crafted URL

We confirmed this problem with update blog by using IE7 (maybe Old Internet
Explorer as well but we don't check with that) and it is not showed with
Firefox,
 Opera and Safari.

And it exists with tDiary 2.2, not 2.3.

* Impact
An arbitrary script may be executed on some web browsers when blog owner
accesses blog update page via special crafted URL or web site by malicious
 third-parties.

It does not affect people who browse blog since this vulnerability exists in
its update page only, and is accessible with administrator of that blog.
However, there's a danger publish malicious page by exploiting this
vulnerability.

* Solutions
 - disable tb-send.rb plugin
 - update product to 2.2.3

mutter 2.29 also makes gnome-shell FTBFS, which I think is related: the cause is
the Meta-2.28 - Meta-2.29 rename in gir1.0-mutter-2.28.

We just need to upload gnome-shell 2.29, and I wonder if mutter is going to
break the gir bindings with every major release... (and maybe gir1.0-mutter-2.28
should have been renamed...).

Bug#572048: Happens on new installations, too

2010-03-07 Thread Josef Spillner (kuarepoti-dju.net)
The SocketException on port 8005 has hit me as well on a freshly
debootstrapped squeeze system with tomcat6 (6.0.24-2, amd64) added on top
of it.
The previous versions worked fine in their respective squeeze
environments. Given that the system is always produced automatically,
configuration changes can be ruled out. This behaviour of tomcat6 is thus
clearly a regression.

However, it doesn't seem to be the fault of packaging metadata because the
stock upstream version also fails to run with the same
issue and an additional NoRouteToHostException, despite the network being
fine. Perhaps it's a Java issue? (using openjdk-6-jre 6b17-1.7-1)

Bug#570348: gmrun: wrong build-deps on ia64

2010-03-07 Thread Rafael Cunha de Almeida
gmrun makes it's own version of alphasort. However, as far as I can
tell, it's unecessary as it doesn't add anything new. By using the
alphasort provided by dirent.h I hope to avoid any sort of glibc
compatibility problems. I'm attaching the patch to this email.

mutter 2.29 also makes gnome-shell FTBFS, which I think is related: the cause
 is
 the Meta-2.28 - Meta-2.29 rename in gir1.0-mutter-2.28.

We just need to upload gnome-shell 2.29, and I wonder if mutter is going to
break the gir bindings with every major release... (and maybe
 gir1.0-mutter-2.28
 should have been renamed...).
Renaming gir1.0-mutter-2.28 to gir1.0-mutter-2.29 imho makes sense. So
it seems the bug is in gir1.0-mutter-2.28 not in gnome-shell.

Bug#555668: elfsign uses MD5

Hi Stefan,

I'd missed the fact that you'd done this until now. Thanks!

It looks anatomically correct, but makes it impossible to check existing
signed binaries that have MD5 checksums. It's a good start though, and is
definitely better than nothing. I'll have a play with it.

Bug#572923: protobuf: FTBFS on armel (test-suite failure)

Hi,

Thanks for the reminder. I've contacted upstream soon after this failure, and
here is what upstream said:

 $ python
  %x % 9223372036854775808
 '8000'
  %x % 9223372035781033984
 '7fffc000'

Oops, I used the wrong numbers here. The interesting numbers are:

 print \n%x != %x\n%x != %x % tuple((x  0x for x in
(-9223372035781033984, -9223372036854775808, 9223372035781033983,
9223372036854775807)))

80004000 != 8000
7fffbfff != 7fff

So it looks like what we're actually seeing here is one bit of corruption.

I still strongly suspect a compiler bug. Probably the compiler's emulation
of 64-bit arithmetic is broken in some way.

Now, I'm not sure how to proceed here. I see that gcc-4.4 on armel is still the
same (4.4.3-1) as when the build was attempted, so just re-attempting the build
will not help… Any suggestions are welcome.

If, one way or another, this cannot be fixed, should we remove armel from the
list of supported arches for this package?

regards,
iustin

That wouldn't be too nice for your reverse dependencies... I came
across this while looking at what was preventing compiz from going to

Did this get reported to the gcc people, and/or arm porter list? Did

Bug#572950: libtheora: multiple vulnerabilities in lenny

2010-03-07 Thread Michael Gilbert
package: libtheora
version: 1.0~beta3-1
severity: serious
tags: security

Hi,

I have prepared a lenny package for the theora issues that are
were recently addressed in xulrunner. Note that two of them never got a
CVE (one should probably be requested), but have been fixed ever since
the first release of firefox 3.5. The package is at
http://alioth.debian.org/~gilbert-guest/libtheora and the debdiff is
attached.

These issues are already fixed in unstable. Please coordinate with the
security team to release a DSA for lenny.

That wouldn't be too nice for your reverse dependencies... I came

 testing.

Agreed, was just wondering what would need to happen if armel remains
broken.

Did this get reported to the gcc people, and/or arm porter list? Did
anyone try to get a minimal test-case?

No, and no. At the time I first saw this, I didn't have any access to
ARM machines, and then I forgot about it. I guess I could now try to use
the Debian ARM machines that are open to developers to try and find a
good test-case.

Thanks (again) for reminding me about this, will start looking into
replicating/debugging it. I'll contact debian-arm right away.

It doesn't really warrant a security update, I think. However, we should
apply it to the unstable shibboleth-sp2 and do another upload. I don't
feel a strong need to fix it in stable, apart from the backports.org

Ack. If you want to introduce a fix in Lenny, please do that through

Bug#570775: squeeze: Samba fail to start on a main-server

2010-03-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Holger Levsen]
Filing with severity serious as Samba is one of the core services of
 the Debian Edu main server.

This problem seem to be solved in the Squeeze version at the moment.
At least debian-edu-test-install report this regarding samba now:

  success: ./samba: samba is running.
success: ./samba: Netbios name service is listening on netbios-ns/udp.
success: ./samba: Netbios session service is listening on netbios-ssn/tcp.
success: ./samba: smbadmin account exists in ldap

I suspect some LDAP issue was breaking samba earlier, but do not know.
Perhaps this bug should be closed? I suspect it should be reassigned
to debian-edu-config or debian-edu-install.

Happy hacking,

And it's a duplicate bug filed at severity: serious after I've already
downgraded the other bug report to important.

Until you've read and understood

at RC severity.

This bug is neither a privilege escalation nor even a DoS. If the security
team says they want a DSA for this, I will prepare an update, but I think
it's ridiculous to treat an information leak of world-readable files as a
security vulnerability requiring an update.

I don't think filing ill-researched bugs at RC severity is respectful of
maintainers. The implication is that the maintainers' highest priority
should be to do the follow-through on a bug that he was unwilling to. So
far, on packages I maintain or co-maintain, this has amounted to four bugs
filed at RC severity, *all* of which were inflated or invalid, and one of
which was part of an overbroad mass bugfiling where the package dependencies
should have made it obvious that the bug was not present.

Libtool security update seems to have broken mpg123 (1.4.3-4). It can't find
 or
load output plugins. I don't know what package to blame but things should keep
 working in stable.

I don't see how the change in libltdl3 should cause problems. The
change makes it stop looking for .la files where it shouldn't. I
don't see why mpg123 would need to open a file there.

So I'm reassinging this bug to mpg123 for now.

In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  * change debian/gnome-dvb-client.install to support python2.6

We thought you might be interested in doing the same. It will allow the package
to build with python 2.6. It will currently fail as it directly uses both
python2.5 and site-packages in debian.gnome-dvb-client.install.

Marking this bug as closed as my new build of jabberd2 2.2.9 works fine with
libgsasl7 1.4 (built with libgsasl7-dev 1.1 or 1.4)

I can only think that my jabberd 2.2.8 might have been built with
libgsasl7-dev 0.2.27, and that caused problems.

Bug#571748: Patch to fix the problem.

2010-03-07 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva

thanks

Hi.

This patch fixes the problem. It was caused by overlapping ranges on calls
of gdk_device_get_history, and because the fuction was getting events that
happened after the callback that was being treated. This patch fixes this by
incremeting the time of the last function call, and decrementing the end of the
range.

Greetings.

Please see http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-4652

Since this package is apparently both unmaintained, unused and lagging
behind the current upstream, the cleanest solution might be a removal
from the archive.

According to that page this affects only versions 13 and 14, and only
  if TLS is enabled.

The CVE writeups are usually written without in-depth investigation,
their information on affected versions shouldn't be trusted without
checking the code. I didn't look into details, I just file bugs for a
 bunch of new security issues.

Currently there's 0.12.1 in Debian, and without TLS support. You
might want to close that bug report.

I'll leave that to the maintainers/adopters.

I've checked the code and Lenny/Squeeze are indeed not affected, closing.

Cheers,
Moritz

seems invalid, the module is an interface for v4l, not v4l2, so this is at

note that the suggested libv4l is supposed to work just fine with the module

Bug#571771: Couldn't configure pre-depend ... probably a dependency cycle

apt-get dist-upgrade, aptitude dist-upgrade and aptitude

Who said that safe-upgrade will work in all dependency cases?

apt-get dist-upgrade and aptitude dist-upgrade also want to do
crazy things from time to time... IMHO giving an explicit list of
packages to apt-get install is still the most reliable way to upgrade,
but this is getting off topic.

Bug#572982: azureus: Multiple license issues.

2010-03-07 Thread Niels Thykier
Package: src:azureus
Severity: serious

Hi

GPL and EPL are not compatible[1], yet azureus contains quite a few files under
GPL while Depending on SWT, which is under EPL. Furthermore the source itself
contains multiple files under CPL, which is also incompatible with GPL.

The file com/aelitis/azureus/ui/swt/Sleak.java is listed as being under GPL
and copyrighted by Aelitis and IBM, but reading the file this does not seem
to be the case. The file itself appears be under CPL and owned by IBM and
that Aelitis have (possibly without permission) assumed copyright over it
and relicensed it under GPL. If that have got this permission I feel it
ought be mentioned in debian/copyright.

Note: I am not certain whether the files under LGPL are an issue, as far as
I can tell it depends on whether one of the derives from the other. I
would recommend contacting the debian legal mailing list for advice
on this.

~Niels

OK, also tried with full-upgrade. Also fails.
(Also when installing sids aptitude first, though)

apt-get dist-upgrade *does* work, though.

So the question is what aptitude tries to do better so that it fails

I reopen the bug but set it to important as a easy workaround (using
apt-get) exists.

Bug#568940: azureus: Does not start, complains about missing, swt libs

2010-03-07 Thread Niels Thykier
gregor herrmann wrote:
 [...]
What I don't understand is why the .jar is in /usr/lib/java/ and not
in /usr/share/java in the first place. It's put there explicitly by
 debian/libswt-gtk-3.5-java.install.

Installing it to /usr/share/java and adjusting
debian/libswt-gtk-3.5-java.links would save one symlink and maybe
 also fix the bug?

Hi

It is intentionally installed in /usr/lib/java; the java side of swt
stores C pointers in either the java type int or long depending
on the platform and the native function signature differs because of
this on different platforms.

This is all part of the swt internals and is not exposed outside swt,
which is why swt.jar is one of the few jar files (the only?) to go in
/usr/lib.

Package: libwww-mechanize-ruby1.9
Version: 0.9.3-1
Severity: serious
User: debian-r...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ruby190transition

Hi,

Ruby 1.9.0 is going away in Squeeze, replaced by Ruby 1.9.1. This
transition is made mandatory by API changes upstream.

Your package currently ships some files in /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.0. This
will no longer work with 1.9.1.

You can either:
- port your package to Ruby 1.9.1
- drop the Ruby 1.9.X binary package

There is more information on http://wiki.debian.org/Ruby191Transition

Thanks

Ok, because it would be good if you could reproduce the issue and then test
whether the patch really fixes it for you.

BTW, I get reply from usptream author for exploitable URI.
Where should I send that, to Steffen or someone else?
Please send it to me in private.

Bug#569091: Uses obsolete V4L1 API

We've received the following bug report in the Debian bug tracker

seems invalid, the module is an interface for v4l, not v4l2, so this is at
best wishlist for a new module, certainly not a bug.

note that the suggested libv4l is supposed to work just fine with the module
 (according to libv4l docs).

So it seems to me we want to patch this so it uses v4l1_* functions
from libv4l? (http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/3636.html pointed in
the initial bug message).

Or drop the package, but this will also bring down ivtv-utils, which
depends on V::C::V4L and has about 300 popcon score :/

The patch may even be useful for upstream.

Bug#572420: Please change this bug to libsdl1.2debian

The bug is actually in libsdl1.2debian. It has improper compile flags
for powerpc g3. What these are I do not know. The ubuntu version
works. I have done the following to temporarily correct it.

Please move this bug to libsdl1.2debian

Temporary (bad) fix. For debian-unstable/sid/testing.

Debian has compiled SDL with improper flags for powerpc g3 support.

Install SDL from.

I build all packages some time ago with binutils-gold and your package build
without an hard failure, but I noticed that you seems to provide a library in
a specific library package so other packages can link against it without
problems but your shared object has still some unresolved symbols which
the program which links agaomst it must resolve. This isnt a good idea because
when you introduce new dependencies the package previously linked against the
old version will break because it doesnt know about the new dependency.
Maybe you could link against all needed libraries so programs must not link
against libraries which it doesnt need to use.

Maybe it is related to following bugs which hard failed due to unresolved
symbols in programs
