I think this package is fine to release, but I believe it's blocked on
the verification and autopkgtest failure analysis of glib2.0 in bug
1999098? Otherwise AIUI the package would become uninstallable?

I enabled -proposed and updated gnome-characters to version
43.1-0ubuntu1. This also updated glib2.0 as per the bug description.
For 'Test Case 1' I successfully copied an emoji character to both
nautilus and gedit and for 'Test Case 2' I can confirm that the 'moose'
emoji was displayed after
Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,
Accepted gnome-characters into kinetic-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
characters/43.1-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.
