XUbuntu 16.04 LTS.
The card is nForce 6150SE
OpenGL does not work, but I can login to xfce because it does not need a
compositor.

For a long while, I've been using this local include file with success
on Xenial 16.04. To make use of it, download the "local/usr.bin.firefox"
file to /tmp and do:
sudo cp /tmp/usr.bin.firefox /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox
sudo apparmor_parser -r -T -W /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox
I also see this on Debian unstable, so it most probably not
an issue with a Ubuntu specific x server:
java.lang.RuntimeException: cannot load system cursor: CopyDrop.32x32
at sun.awt.X11.XToolkit.lazilyLoadDesktopProperty(XToolkit.java:1541)

cd /etc/apparmor.d/disable
ln -s ./../usr.bin.firefox
ln -s ./../usr.bin.firefox_patched
?
This is just to test if your problem is at least _related_ to apparmor.
Should be undone after the test as it disables the apparmor profile for
firefox (temporarily weakens
@asgard2 ...followed by a
service apparmor reload
