I have about 80GB of mail to index using Dovecot 2.3.4.1 and xapian 1.4.11 FTS.
After about 18 hours I had to reboot the server for an unrelated reason (it was
perhaps a quarter of the way through indexing).
After reboot, the indexing did not restart, and I could find no way to restart

I am getting the error where root is constantly being lookedup over
imap I am guessing. I am pretty sure services like fail2ban and
logwatch are setup to send from another user instead of root @
localhost so I think this may be an imap issue.

Whats your dsync command? Sounds like you use 'backup' instead off 'mirror'

This seems to work partial - complete replica does work (delete the
mailboxes on target, and they'll get filled again).
But, changes don't seem to get populated on the replica server; I get

You should maybe check that
doveadm user user@name
produces correct output. Also, you might need to use %{userdb:mail_address}
there.

struggle there..

real mail-adress, like peter.schm...@schmidt.com

You can try putting %{correct_email_address} as expansion to the message, and
making sure you set this in userdb.

see the correct mail-adresse where he send the mail, and no internal user and
servername.
