Am I right in believing that the new 120 film holder, from Minolta enables
one to scan, at 2820dpi, the entire surface if a 120 neg, by making 3
passes over the film , then stitching the three scans, together ?
Will this holder work with the VeiwScan software, or only with the Scan

I just joined the list. Give me one good reason to stay on!
Agreed. Amusing though the off topic threads can be, we really need to try
to take them off the list.

Excuse me for sounding dumb, but if I can get hold of the new holder, I will
be able to scan an entire 6x6 neg, at 2820dpi, just with my Scan Multi Mk1,
ViewScan and a third party software to stitch the three scans together, is
that right ?
P.S. Can you not use Photoshop to stitch the scans
John,
How much does the new holder cost, in the UK ?
The UH-M1 holder is £199.99, part number 2883950.

Tony,
Any chance of putting the link above at the end of the message
instead of at the beginning? Seems like it would be a bit less
intrusive there, yet still available for those needing it.

Sounds like someone that knows everything has put themselves in charge of the list, the rest that dot know to much can just go pound salt. Afterall we aren't here to learn and teach, when will people learn, this is a mutual admiration society!

I am looking for software and hardware to calibrate my monitor,
scanner and printer. I need recommendations from those that have done
this. On list or off.

This should be off list, but perhaps one more time?!
Why? The anecdotal "evidence" from the field is compelling.

The holder is just that - a holder. It includes a set of blank masking
cards which the user must custom cut their own windows into according to
their own needs. Because it is just a holder, it will work with any scanner
software that one chooses to use with the Scan Multi (original or II)

Me too...and I even shoot with film and scan the film with a scanner ;-)
The only dimensions that matter are the number of pixels. The dpi and
hence the "physical dimensions" are utterly meaningless.
That's erroneous to say they are 'utterly meaningless'. They CLEARLY are
utterly meaningFUL to the printer driver, and, along with the xy number of
pixels,
I find extensis porfolio 5.0 does exactly what you need.

I've tried a couple of the programs which have been suggested and here are

Media Center or Armadillo Photo, but they may be useful for others. Thanks
for everyone's suggestions so far!

Based on what I found when I asked the same question, you will receicve
answers from people who selected and have used only the LS-30, some who
have only used the Canon, and a third group who have tested or compared
both. It really comes down to what you want to spend in $$$, the

I do all of that tooand print the results on my printer. Each of these area

When I joined this list, I thought that it was for the purpose of discussing
scanners, in order to get the best possible end result, THE IMAGE.
Yes. Please folks, although the occasional diversion is fine, can everyone try
sitting on their hands when tempted to reply to OT threads - or mail
the real wish to share hard-found knowledge, practical or theoretical?
That is actually one thing this list has been pretty good at. Do you have a
specific scanning question you would like answered?

If you (or anyone) believes CD 'quality' sounds rough, I assure you it has
nothing to do with the sample rate. Spend a few bucks and buy a well
designed CD player and you will 'discover' that 44.1 kHz works just fine.

Hi Rob,
This is something I've been researching off and on for the past year. I
have, or am in the position to get, evaluation (full) versions of probably
any image management program for a magazine article I've been preparing. If
anyone interested would supply me with a list of desired image
