Hello Albert,
Depending on where your definition of "experimental" reaches to:
- I don't have much detailed memory of Boris Lehman's Histoire de ma vie

trailer confirms that not all the photographs in question

I'm so sorry to hear this. I only met Rob once, at Edinburgh during a
Black Box. He was such a lovely guy to be around for those few days, of
which I still keep a very vivid memory - as of his films. My condolences
to all those who were close to him.

Hi Esperanza,
At the more documentary end of the experimental spectrum, there is
Laura Waddington's Border, much of which was shot at night. There are
also these four short YT videos which speak, I think, to the question of
what the night conceals, and what it makes visible (sensible):
The King of Marvin Gardens.
The Ploughman's Lunch.
Valentina Monti has made a series of documentaries about radio stations
in Argentina, Afghanistan, etc.

While we're on this topic, I've just been asked for mp4 files for projection
from a computer. Would any Frameworkers care to share settings they've used
successfully?
I'm working from 1080 masters, and I'm on a Mac, where I understand that all
the mp4 presets sacrifice quality to compression.
Aaron,
thanks! I guess my question was, what is the safest setting for multiple
unknown computer/projector combinations...:) It seems 720p would avoid a lot of
problems in itself.

Hi John,
I think you and your audience would find Wendy Morris's Bully Beef
rather interesting, particularly the third part which is focused on
military technology:

Not sure if this was already cited, but if you like Nathalie Baye in Le Petit
Lieutenant, then you shouldn't miss Huppert and Khiberlain in Serge Bozon's Tip

I'm also interested to see what people have to say on this.
I have the impression that HDCam hardly exists at all in Europe, whereas
in the US many places are equipped for HDCam but not DCP. So these
decisions also have to do with where you want to screen work more often.
Having said which,
Andec in Berlin offer a very complete service:

Super8 Reversal Lab in The Hague is more artisanal.

I have been a happy user of both at different points in time over the last ten
yearq.

Then all we have to do is get rid of the concept of the avant-garde from the
political arena, too, and we might really begin to get somewhere!:)

By coincidence, I am just about to start work on a viewing/reading list on just
this subject, which would serve as the basis for working with students on
making portrait films later this summer.
Any suggestions for short poetic/experimental/non-formated film portraits, or
for texts which

It depends on your platform - which operating system, which browser,
etc. I can only speak about Mac.
I find Safari and Firefox plug-ins (on OSX) tend to work for a while,
then stop working, or work only erratically, which is kind of
frustrating...
I used to use this:

Hi Michael,
What you describe sounds very like Guy Sherwin's Paper Landscape:

Hope this helps:
