Hi Geoff, feel free to analyse the Lot Viewer report (visible with gnucash
--extra) and offer any suggestions. It was designed to assist AP/AR lot
usage, and could be augmented to assist STOCK use of lots (afaik is
optional for this).

Yes David there are some "interesting" behaviours within the Lot Viewer,
however with patience and perseverance you should be able to master it,
and one day you will sit back and wonder what all the fuss was about.
I have successfully used Lots for all sorts of corporate actions

Thanks, John (and Frank) but when I look there I find no gtk.css (nor in
$HOME/.config/gtk-2.0 either)
Should the gnucash install have created one?
Searching online I found a gtk bug
Thank you once again David. Your detailed explanations helped to fill in
some of my blank spots in understanding the build process.
Make had some red error lines when I rebuilt gnucash, and not knowing
how to figure them out (it worked the first time I built it) I switched

Thanks John, I'll try and get Samantha's perl installation sorted out,
then we will see if she still has a problem with exchange rates.

It seems that if I have a couple of unsaved transactions, and then go to exit
Gnucash, I can get a crash.
If I have one or two transactions I have edited but not saved, and I do
Menu->File->Quit,
1. I get asked to save a transaction, so I click yes, then
2. I get asked to safe the file before
Derek,
It is possible it will cause problems. When you specify the prefix the
installation procedure puts the libraries and shared resources in particular
locations. AFAIK it doesn't create environment variables in your system but
the choice of prefix goes affect how GnuCash looks for files
John,
You will need to use
$sudo apt install gnucash
to install from the repository.
You may also need to use apt-get instead of apt if the alias apt is not
defined on Debian. to locate the executable
$whereis gnucash
should give you the path to the executable any libraries and shared
D'oh! I fired up my Ubuntu notebook and discovered that my GnuCash version on
it is actually 3.8, instead of 3.1.So much for being on top of everything. :-)

Sorry David, my previous email didn't go to the group. Here's my problem
with a little more detail.
When I try to launch GnuCash I get this error:
:/opt/gnucash$ ./bin/gnucash
./bin/gnucash: error while loading shared libraries: libgnc-module.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file
By default gtk.css will be in $HOME/.config/gtk-3.0/

Hello,
Having now fiddled with the Lots features some more, I have encountered
some issues with its implementation.
First, if I open up the lots viewer to see what it is doing with lot
allocations, the interface appears to automatically recalculate the gain
in the entire account, and it
Thanks for the clue, Frank.
I am not sure if I have that set.
However, where is gtk supposed to be in a Debian system? I can see
etc/gtk-2.0 and etc/gtk-3.0 but

gtk:
Most puzzling.

Hi Samantha
There were a couple of typos in the powershell command John asked you to
run, which is why there was no output.
Would you mind trying the following 4 powershell command lines please -
with your actual API Key of course - and note the single quote at the
end of each line:
Hi Geoff
My locale currency is GBP. As it was when this feature of Gnucash used
to work for me.
Thanks for taking the time to get involved.
