Jay, I'm using the Flatpak version on Ubuntu. What version of GnuCash are you using and is it Flatpak / Distribution provided / self built ? I vaguely recall if it was the Flatpak version uninstalling and then re-installing was sufficient to correct the issue. Cheers David H. On Sat, 8 Oct 2022

Oh, yes, I've always manually entered transactions, and back when I used Quicken, I'd use the import to double-check my entries. The only times I've really missed imports is when a credit card or bank statement doesn't balance; that can be a bit tedious, but fortunately, it doesn't happen very

For  me the parent placeholder account in GnC is the bank account that is being reconciled.  The sub-accounts in GnC are just my way of delegating the funds within that account for certain  purposes. I'm not sure about the use case of using the placeholder as a grand total for all accounts
