If all the PDSE directory blocks are full it grabs another block for
the directory, it can't run out of space unless the entire data set
cannot be expanded.

How many PDSE members can dance on the head of a disk?
It's Friday in Europe and Asia.

I would assume a directory entry must be created before attempting to
allocate space for the contents of a new PDSE member. So, assuming the
PDSE has no free blocks and cannot be extended, do you get a different
type of ABEND if the out-of-space condition occurs at directory entry
creation time
Lizette,
There is an option within CA 1 called SMS that can be set to EXT (EXTended).
This will store the SMS Management class in the TMC record at the
file-level.
For Dataclas you would have to use the new (new with 14.0) TMOKEYxx member
and have the Dataclas stored at the volume level in the

Are you referring to
Z.O.W.I.E. (Zonal Organization World Intelligence Espionage)? They’re the
good guys and employ Superagent Derek Flint. Dipicted in the excellent “In
Like Flint” movie series from 1966-7. Some say events therein really
happened. Okay, one guy said it.
Kurt,
You provided an answer that I needed to know. Thank you!
I will be ordering z/OS 2.4 shortly. I understand that "z/OSMF Software
Management portable software instance format" for z/OS is not an option at this
time.

Looking at this a bit further, getting this PTF installed requires the PTFs to
install the PTFs for encrypting the spool file. And it requires an IPL to pick
up the changes.

Putting it differently, there is no distinction between "member data space" and
"directory entry space." Being out of one is being out of both. A PDSE of 10
tracks could equally well hold one member of ~500K or lots and lots of tiny or
"null" members. A mischievous programmer adding an

Yes,
Data class is used for choosing tape parameters (MEDIAn, encryption, etc).

What happens if an inquisitive programmer mischievously adds an
unbounded number of empty members to a small PDSE? Or adds
numerous aliases
In regards to TYPRUN=COPY not working.
In case anybody is interested in this, I received notice yesterday that PTF
UJ04073 is now available for this APAR. I haven't installed it yet but it's
there.

I'm looking at a list of recent z/OSMF performance APARs associated w/
improved startup by reducing EXCP count. They are fairly recent (Sept
2020), so I'll paste them here for your consideration: PH28921,
PH28920, PH28971,

directory blocks is not possible.
BTW: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think PDSE on LNKLST *may have*
secondary extents and it is NOT bad practise like in case of PDS.

That shows the storage group but not the dataclass.
I’m pretty sure DATACLAS, for both disk and tape, is used during ACS
