Re: [IMail Forum] Imail 2006 activation problem

2005-12-13 Thread Gordon Waters
I am a little confused as to why there seems to be so much Ipswitch / Imail
bashing going on here, I mean that this is an Imail list, and the way I see it,
it is here for people who are using Imail and would like the help of Ipswicth
and others in using Imail, So Like Christopher Jones said, Leave the list if
your are not using Imail or are not able to offer those of us who do use it
help.

Gordon.

The product never really sucked. But I read enough to know it's not how
I ran my software company.

And I was weary about Windows XP activation until MS said if the
activation server couldn't be located the software would self register,
whatever that means.

But the upgrade train sucks. I do have upgrade issues, I had issues
because clamscan - the free virus scanner - needed to be upgraded, but
otherwise lazyness tends to lead to octal core quad Xeon servers with
100GB of RAM and 500TB of storage. It's not like Google isn't there to
help you with the issue of the day (for free!!!).

I bought IMail because it was one of five products for Windows Server
3.51 which saved my ass in 1995. But today the field is much broader
and the level on entry is much lower.

RE: [IMail Forum] forwarding problem

2005-12-13 Thread Yatin Shah \(QualiSpace\)
Let me explain my problem with more description.

I want few of my incoming mails to be forwarded to another account
and I want those mail to reside in my mail box too. For this, I created a
rule which search for the word in the body and if found, it forwards a copy
to the destination email id.

Now, there's a problem. Once I save and come out, it automatically
changes the destination email id from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL
PROTECTED]/com.
however, if I make only forward (ie. Not forward a copy but only forward)
this rule works properly. But in forward a copy to address, it automatically
changes the email id. It is not allowing me to put / in the destination
email id. It gives an error of invalid email address: There is an invalid
symbol.

Any idea, how to proceed?

Sorry, I thought you were searching for the address in a rule.

Not sure why it would change when you have put it in the destination field.

Can you post your rule for public review?

It might be a simple problem of syntax and escaping as Gordon suggested.

RE: Re[2]: [IMail Forum] Problems with 8.22

2005-12-13 Thread Rick Klinge
I am just guessing here but maybe smtpd32 is consuming a lot the application
heap. You could try to boost the 3rd SharedSection heap parameter in the
registry. To change the SharedSection, find the
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\SubSystems key in the registry and edit the Windows string value.
Locate the 'SharedSection' string and boost its third value from 512 to
1024. This might double the amount of process the smtpd32 service can spawn.
I have no idea of the inner workings of the smtpd32 and i haven't use oh.exe
to check for all the open handles. Our server is set at:
SharedSection=1024,3076,1024 we don't have the 4th parameter, terminal
server, but some people might.

Re: [IMail Forum] Mail to all

2005-12-13 Thread Darin Cox

There's a command line utility in IMail called
mailall.exe that will do it. You put the message you want to send in a
separate file and run the utility to send it. I believe it only handles
plain text emails, though. Run it from the command line with a /? switch
to see how to use it.

Simply create a program alias in imail called whatever you like. Then set
the command to:

   c:\imail\mailall.exe -h ALL -d

This will send mail to all users on all domains.

After you send the mail, make sure you delete the alias so nobody else can
use it :)

Title: Message

The list format has
not changed in 2006. We know of a bug that is causing the admin not to
update certain lists. You'll know you're hitting the issue if you click on "list
users"and nothing shows up on the page for users, but when you click on
"view users" at the bottom there are users on the list. At that point the
admin probably won't allow you to save the file because w3svc has it locked
up.

We have this fixed
for a .01 release coming soon.

I can see the list of users but can't add users. Oddly enough I can delete them. I now have two clients with the same problem so I can only assume that this is system-wide. Clients can send mail to their lists so mgt is the problem.

[IMail Forum] setting up iMail as Secondary Mail server

2005-12-13 Thread Scott W. Coleman

We are migrating from iMail 8.11 to Exchange 2003. I
currently have 6 domains on the iMail box and I want to keep it up and running
as a secondary mail server. I read the knowledge base article; IMail - How to
use IMail as SMTP Gateway for another e-mail server but I have a question.

The Exchanger server is up and running. I am going to
migrate the 6 domains over the next 30 days. For the first, I have put in the
request for a MX record with a higher priority to my ISP. If I am reading the
article correctly once all mail is flowing to the Exchange box I delete the
domain that has been moved and create an entry in the hosts file on the iMail
box and add the other mail servers ip in the relay for list.

Is it really that easy?

It anything going to happen to the other domains before they
get migrated.

Here is the url to the article if anyone is interested.

2005-12-13 Thread Sanford Whiteman
The Exchanger server is up and running. I am going to migrate the 6

request for a MX record with a higher priority to my ISP. If I am

entry in the hosts file on the iMail box and add the other mail

 Is it really that easy?

In a sense. But what you'll have after that is setup is a secondary
server that accepts all mail for the given domain, including mail to
unknown users at that domain. Which means that spam to unknown
recipients will have to be rejected by the first hop, Exchange (rather
than by the zero hop, IMail), causing large amounts of unwanted
traffic both in and out.

In the current spam climate, this is a dangerous choice. It's the way
things used to be set up by default, say, five years ago, but it's
obsolete.

I recommend instead that you implement my exchange2aliases script (see
my signature) for each domain that you're storing-and-forwarding with
IMail. Search the archives for other posts about the script.

Hello Rick,

We have an IMail 2006.01 build in testing and are looking to release next

We're adding some parity items (such as Delete folder contents and

in IAdmin) as well as fixes around Performance, Contact Migration, DOS and a
few other areas.

Bye for now,

Subject: [IMail Forum] ICS / IMail

I'm still waiting to upgrade ICS and IMail to 2006. Does anyone have a date
when the list of the shortcomings of the new versions will be fully
functional? I'm guessing probably April, reading past post, but would like
to have some 'best guess' of a date for the current fixes, patches, and hot
fixes. Also, after applying the emergency 'non notified' critical update to
IMail 8.xx I've noticed that POP email seems to retrieve email in spurts,
ie: connect = receive = got email. Hit the receive button right away
again and receive more email. Mostly I receive duplicate emails. This is
with or without AV running on the local via a full T1 that's only 2 hops
away. My guess is there are still issues with the socket handling on the
IMail side. Lastly can the PSERVE, WHOISD32, and FINGRD32 be removed or are
they actually needed for the IMail and/or ICS to function properly?

Tnx,

~Rick

[IMail Forum] Pocket PCs running Outlook have connection issues

I quickly checked the archives, the forums and the knowledge base and
couldn't find anything directly related to this.

We have 3 different brand PDAs in house and all of them have the issue where
they have to disconnect then reconnect for each email they try to send.
Otherwise they get a disconnected from server message.

Receiving mail is just fine, it is sending that is a problem.

without constructing an entire Web application that makes use of MS SMTP.

We use the listserver in smartermail. It has online administration for the
addresses on the list. You can add an address, delete an address, export
the list to a flat file and import the flat file back in with replacement.

It does not have automatic bounce handling.

I built a server for a client who sends out about 40,000 emails a month.
This way if they get blacklisted it's a mail server with a different IP than
our business mail server.
