Kicad implemented hierarchy in a way that was different than how it was
usually done by the rest of the industry. The fix is to see how everyone
does it and do it the same way.
1) Projects and Libraries merge into a single entity . The project that you
design and upload to github.com is download
In Kicad an arc is defined by Center point X and Y, Radius, Start and End
angles in 10ths of a degree and Start and End points X and Y.
This is overkill since the polar representation fully defines the Arc and
the Cartesian start and end
points are redundant.

This might be a good time to discuss industry standards and how they are
currently undergoing a massive change that the Kicad team could help with.
Standards have in the past been created by large formal organizations like
the IEEE for the entire industry. They were written in a very strict and

Wayne mentioned a significant contribution from Digi-Key, Is this one of
those secret contributions or can you tell us how big the check was?

Remember, you are only a newbie for a short time but will spend most of
your time as an experienced user. You want the tool to be powerful yet easy
enough to learn so that newbies don't give up before learning the tool.
You can do this with the ability to configure features so that you enable
You are assuming that every designer uses one and only one configuration
for all their needs. I usually have several projects active at any time any
would like to customize each one.
How do we handle that?

I would not worry so much about a central repository. As your designs grow
you will find yourself using parts from a variety of different repositories
so the best way is to have an easy way to pull in outside parts and then
grabbing any repository is taken care of for you.
