You should be able to FDISK /MBR this will eliminate the Linux Boot Loader
(grub)
From there, you can use a NT CDROM to reinstall/repair your system. You
don't always need the ERD to fix NT problems things like boot errors are

The normal login screen, as you refer to it, Is the KDE login screen.
You are now getting tne Gnome login screen.
You get this screen because the last time you logged into your desktop you
logged into Gnome and set it as your default.

Your problem could be related to your software raid in that it can affect
how the installation program reads your MBR and therefore wrights to it.
There was a posting this week on the Mandrake Forum regarding soft raids.
You might want to check it out.
