Mike, Don't worry about it. It sound like the driver is doing something for you that I wasn't expecting. In the long run, it will make things less complicated for people. It will make things interesting for people with both 2.4.x and 2.6.x kernels, but things are interesting for them

Well! This is what I did -- not pretty! I reinstalled 9.1. I let the installer select the defaut driver cs46xx. After installation, I selectively installed alsa. Rebooted, cs46xx failed to load. Went to harddrake and selected driver cs4232. Rebooted, cs4243 loaded. Now there is a speaker on
