The thing is, I don't think I was assigned that. Looking at my sheet
from US West with all my account info, I don't see any primary
computer name. There is a user name and password
Also, I have set up my Powerbook to run Debian Linux and connected
through DSL no problem, configured automatically. The host name I
used for that was the default bame 'debian'.
But I now think maybe somethings up with my ethernet hub, so I'll try
plugging DSL modem straight to computer.
kinda sounds like your DHCP Client ID might be what US West uses...try
username.domain (something like joholland.uswest.com perhaps)...that might
work...much hassle is caused by the various ISP's using different terms to
mean the same thing...let me know if that works and i'll be able to pass
how is the hub fed??...have you a firewall/router between it and the DSL
modem??...if not, then are you shutting down the modem and allowing it to
lose the MAC number of the powerbook, before bringing it up with the mdk
system??...

which service are you using? I've got @home and all I
had to do was assign eth0 my IP address, subnet mask,
both DNS servers and the gateway IP address. @home
gave me all that information on the receipt that the
installation guy left for me. Can't help you if
you're using a different service.

From what I have been reading, I am supposed to see some kind of 'eth0'
text in the boot up text (dmesg). However, I am not seeing anything about
