HI Nikon Fans,
Occasionally, I noticed that some F2 and F3 cameras are pin registered, and
the price is about doubled of normal F2s and F3s. Does anyone know what pin
registered means ?
Happy shooting,

Hi Mike,
I own a Nikkor 28-45/f4.5 and I am quite happy with it. It has a non
rotating front, little distortion, quite sharp, but it's rather slow and the
zoom range is limited.
I have tried the Nikkor 25-50/f4 and decided not to buy it. It is much
heavier than the 28-45/f4.5, has a rotating
Guten Tag Christian,
I use a Hoya 95mm linear polariser with my Nikkor 50-300/f4.5 ED, and I had
no problems at all. The polariser is almost permanently attached to the
lens. I wish someone makes a multi-coated polariser at this size. I think

Hi Henry and Todd,
Thanks for explaining what pin registered means.
I noticed the spacing between the exposed images is slightly variable on all
my Nikons. I guess pin registering the camera ensures that the spacing
between the exposed images is fixed. Is the modification made by Nikon or a

Hi Thomas,
A circular polariser is a linear polarisering film with a special glass
behind it to rotate the polarised light.
I am using a linear polariser with my F3 and I had no exposure problems. I
think the mirror in the F3 is different to the mirror in the AF cameras. The
F3 mirror has many
Hi Mike,
The FA DOES NOT matrix meter with AI lenses. It would only matrix meter with
AIS lenses. The FA can only centre weight meter AI and non AI lenses. These
limitations are stated in the FA user manual. I don't know why Nikon did
this, and no one so far can explain it to me.
There is a
Hi Gideon,
Great name. I have converted a third party (Soligor 135/f2.0) non AI lens to
AI. Here is what I did :
1) Lay everything under a soft cloth, so that small pieces won't bounce off
when you take the lens apart
2) Remove the aperature ring.
3) Mark how much metal has to be removed from

Hi Gideon,
You need to remove about 1.5mm to 2mm of metal from the rim of the aperature
ring. The finished rim should not touch the camera's coupling catch

lenses, even though it's not a Nikkor.)
Can you complete my list.
Thanks,

Hi Roland,
Thanks for the info. It's a pity that there aren't more Nikkor zooms with
non rotating fronts.
Strange though, the 35-105 AF has non rotating front, but the more expensive
24-120 AF and 28-105 AF don't. The new 28-70/2.8 sounds like a dream, but
the price is far from reality. I have
Hi Marc,
The FA was discontinued shortly after the F801 was introducted. If it had a
longer sales period, then I believe it would be more popular than the FE2.
It handles much better than the FE2 (and F3), but the top is polycarbonate
and not metal like the FE2. Also, Some people prefer the
Hi Chris,
I have the Tokina 24-40/2.8 and used the Nikkor 20-35/2.8.
The distortion on the Tokina is less than the Nikkor, and it is sharper at
edges when wide open than the Nikkor. Also, it uses smaller filters (72mm vs
77mm) than the Nikkor.
The Tokina is entirely metal (rather heavy) and
Hello Nicolas,
I have not seen any teddy bears with the CE label yet, but we have CE labels
on all our telecoms equipment now. According to official information, to get
CE certification the following standards must be met.

Hi Nikon Fans,
When I was in Hong Kong last April, the humidity was a sweating 98%. My
camera and lenses got wet every time I leave a car or store with AC. I was
only there for one week, but a zoom lens has got fungus inside now. (Zoom
lenses are more prone to fungus, as the elements are not

anyone used the 18 f3.5 ? I've used the 20-35 f2.8 once and I quite liked
it, except that it's a bit soft wide open, and it's not entirely metal.

Hi Sam,
You are right that it is hard to focus a super wide angle lens. I also found
it hard to focus my 20/3.5 using an E screen, particularly in dim light
conditions, and that's why I changed it to an H2 screen in my F2 F3
cameras. You are also right that 18mm is not wide enough. I would
Hello Ashok,
I don't think so. The FE don't have TTL flash and doesn't use the maximum
aperature post. You can use the SB-E on the FE, and it still works. The
SBE only has two contacts : flash trigger, and ready light contact. The
latter is just a simple turn on signal for the EM/FG/FG20
Hi Christopher,
I have the manual focus version of the Tokina 100-300mm f4, and it is one of
the best zoom lens I have. I think the AF version has the same optics. I
have tested it against the Nikkor 50-300 f4.5 ED and prime Nikkor lenses. My
results were :
