Version: 1.3.0-3
Severity: wishlist
User: debian-cr...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: libtool-split

As part of the effort to cross-build the archive, the libtool package
needs a split into an architecture independent part and an
architecture dpendent part (the latter only consisting of the libtool
binary). The split is already done for jessie/sid, but to enable the
cross buildability, the dependency in libtool on libtool-bin needs to
be removed, and libtool-bin needs to depend on libtool instead.

The vast majority of packages using libtool via automake don't need
the libtool binary, and thus no changes in the build dependencies, however
about 60 source packages are using libtool directly, and need changes.

 - some packages just check for the libtool binary, and then don't
use it for the build (but are using libtoolize instead). Such
usages are seen in a script called buildcheck.sh, and sometimes
in autogen.sh scripts. The solution for these cases is to patch
these scripts to check for libtoolize instead of libtool, and
not to introduce the new build dependency.

 - other packages just need the additional build dependency on
   libtool-bin.

To test your packages with the libtool-bin package removed, please use
the binaries found at

  deb https://people.debian.org/~doko/tmp/20140820 ./

It is not clear, if all of these changes can be done in time for
the jessie release, but it would be nice to have to be able to
cross-build more packages in jessie.

For questions and help please email the debian-cross ML.

For additional pointers please see
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2014/08/msg00013.html
and some discussion in the orignal issue filed for libtool (#682045).

The full build log can be found at:

The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

Bug#765463: gdal-bin: GDAL and proj4 disagree on some co-ordinate transformations

2014-10-15 Thread Matthew Somerville
Package: gdal-bin
Version: 1.9.0-3.1
Severity: normal

Hi,

On stable Debian, with gdal-bin 1.9.0-3.1 and proj-bin 4.7.0-2, different
results are returned for the same co-ordinate transformations:

$ echo '-1.3893433684943819 52.7297093932173411' | cs2cs +init=epsg:4326 +to
+init=epsg:27700
441335.00 314849.00 -48.92
$ testepsg -t epsg:4326 epsg:27700 -1.3893433684943819 52.7297093932173411 0
(-1.389343,52.729709,0.00) - (441334.824686,314851.829623,-47.495477)

The results differ by a few metres. Looking at the internal definitions, we see
the following (testepsg comes from gdal-bin, cs2cs from proj-bin):

$ testepsg epsg:27700
...
+towgs84=375,-111,431,0,0,0,0 +units=m +no_defs
...

$ cs2cs -v +init=epsg:27700
...
# +towgs84=446.448,-125.157,542.060,0.1502,0.2470,0.8421,-20.4894
...

The towgs84 parameters are different - a 7-parameter version with proj4, but
a 3-parameter version with GDAL. I would have assumed that both packages both
used the same underlying data (which I believe is libgeotiff) on the same
system, but I assume different versions of the data are bundled inside one or
both of these packages, leading to this issue. I tracked the libgeotiff change
down to
http://trac.osgeo.org/geotiff/changeset/2023/trunk/libgeotiff/csv/gcs.csv
- though I would have thought the 7-parameter version was more accurate (not
sure!)?

Anyway, I'm not sure if this has a solution, but it took long enough to track
down (PostgreSQL using proj4, Django using GDAL, so different results depending
where the transformation takes place) that I thought I'd open a report for it
in case anyone else came across the same issue.

ATB,
Matthew

See also the debian/copyright documentation in the Debian GIS Policy:

Just running it myself I wonder if you are using the copies of

Whether or not the embedded libraries are used, the code is included
upstream and needs to be documented in debian/copyright.

Bug#765421: jmapviewer/josm issue

2014-10-15 Thread Felix Natter
Dear GIS maintainers,

since we removed bing_maps.png from jmapviewer in the Debian package,
jmapviewer does not work with bing sat images in JOSM:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=765421

If you agree with this patch, then I can prepare an updated package
(including the patch) tomorrow and hopefully it will make it in time
for jessie.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Bug#765421: jmapviewer/josm issue

2014-10-15 Thread Sebastiaan Couwenberg
Hi Felix,

If you agree with this patch, then I can prepare an updated package

According to the Bing license [1] removing the Bing logo is a violation.

[1] http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:Bing_license.pdf

One of the restrictions for use is:

Restrictions on your use:
We do have some restrictions on your use of the service. You may not:
[...]
change, obscure or remove any search box or any portion of the results,
including, without limitation, any logo, trademark, copyright or other
notice of Microsoft or its suppliers, digital watermarks, or any
advertisement; and if the required logos and copyright notices are not
included in the service generated content, you shall add the logos and
copyright notices provided by Microsoft to the service generated content
as described in the SDKs;

Regarding attribution it further states:

Content Attribution Restrictions outside of the United States:
To the extent applicable local law prohibits you from attributing
content sources by displaying their logos with the service, you must
prominently display the source of the Microsoft Bing Maps Platform data
as a text string with the service at all times. Please refer to the
image below as an example of an acceptable way to attribute source data
with a text string:

The image shows the Bing logo and textual copyright strings for the data
sources.

A compromise to prevent jmapviewer and its rdeps forced into non-free
when the logo is included, may be to use a text string. Although the
quoted clause only applies to jurisdictions outside the US.

It's probably wise to contact map...@microsoft.com and ask them about
the requirements for the Bing logo.

Kind Regards,

Bas

Bug#765511: hdf5: Resource exhaustion in HDF5 1.8.13

2014-10-15 Thread Jim Garrison
Source: hdf5
Version: 1.8.13
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

There seems to be a resource exhaustion issue with HDF5 1.8.13, which
was not present in version 1.8.12. I first reported this issue with
the h5py package at https://github.com/h5py/h5py/issues/480 and the
issue has been reproduced using other libraries, including (at the
very least) pytables. The upstream HDF5 issue is HDFFV-8917.
Unfortunately the HDF5 group does not have a public issue tracker, so
I really have little information about the exact nature of this bug
beyond what I first reported in the h5py issue tracker. However, I
wanted to bring it to your attention since this error renders HDF5
1.8.13 unusable for me, and it would be a shame to see jessie's freeze
date approach when it is using a version with a known regression.

heads up: libcitygml build failure in raspbian may indicate issue in debian.

2014-10-15 Thread peter green
libcitygml failed to build on the raspbian autobuilders in the following
way.

dpkg-deb: building package `openscenegraph-plugin-citygml-shared' in
`../openscenegraph-plugin-citygml-shared_0.14+svn134-2+3p2p1_armhf.deb'.
dpkg-deb --build debian/openscenegraph-plugin-citygml-static ..
dpkg-deb: error: parsing file
'debian/openscenegraph-plugin-citygml-static/DEBIAN/control' near line 7
package 'openscenegraph-plugin-citygml-static':
'Depends' field, reference to 'libopenscenegraph-dev': error in version:
version string is empty
dh_builddeb: dpkg-deb --build debian/openscenegraph-plugin-citygml-static ..
returned exit code 2
make: *** [binary-arch] Error 1
debian/rules:10: recipe for target 'binary-arch' failed

Strangely when I tried to reproduce it manually in a test chroot it
failed in a different way. It seems that osgPlugins-3.2.1 ended up in
debian/tmp/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf rather than debian/tmp/usr/lib .
I added a hack to debian/rules to move it back to the place the
packaging expected it.

I then ran into an error about an invalid number from debian/gencontrol.
Further investigation showed that it couldn't cope with dpkg
--get-selections returning libopenscenegraph100:armhf. Again a quick
hack was added.

I have not tested this in debian but I don't think we have changed
anything relavent to this in raspbian so I doubt the undelying issues
are raspbian specific.

I strongly suspect this is related to the recent multiarching of
openscenegraph.

A very hacky patch I whipped up to get a transition to go through in
raspbian is attatched, the patch is definately not suitable for
inclusion in debian in it's current form but I included it to give
indications of what places need attention.

Re: heads up: libcitygml build failure in raspbian may indicate issue in debian.

2014-10-15 Thread peter green
Ok I screwed up, the reason I got different errors in my test chroot was
because I was mistakenly testing with an older version of libcitygml. Of
course I only discovered this when I actually uploaded the hacked-up
package to raspbian and it got rejected as being older than the version
already there.

And strangely 2+3p2p1 built fine in my test chroot despite failling
twice on our autobuilders.
