[sane-devel] SANE webserver up again

2013-11-27 Thread Henning Geinitz
Hi everybody,

as you may have noticed, the SANE webserver (www.sane-project.org) is
has been down since several days. The reason was a hard disc failure on
the server that hosts SANE (alioth.debian.org). More information:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2013/11/msg3.html

So today I copied all data on alioth.debian.org from
/mnt/home/groups/sane back to the groups directory. This includes htdocs
so the website is running again on http://sane.alioth.debian.org. Also
other services like git may work again.

However, I did not test anything else but basic web functionality.
Please check and correct any scripts that may not be working and crontabs.

The mailing list archive still does not seem to work (no recent articles
since Nov 24), I have no idea why not.

I also updated the DNS A record of www.sane-project.org to the new IP
address of alioth.debin.org. DNS propagation may take some time.

Some info bout DNS configuration for the records:
www.sane-project.org, www1.sane-project.org and sane-project.org all
point to the IP address of sane.alioth.debian.org (=alioth.debian.org).
Originally there were mirrors at www2 and www3 but www2 does not work
and www3 id very old. I try to update www3 in the next few days but no
guarantees. New mirrors would be nice.

This is a one-time effort i.e. I can not handle more work on alioth. So
admins with ssh access to alioth are needed to do such work in future.
As I'm the owner of the domain name sane-project.org I'll handle request
to change the DNS records but I can't do more due to time constraints.

Kind regards

Henning Geinitz

[sane-devel] Regarding sane-project Cn domain name and Internet Keyword

2013-11-10 Thread Henning Geinitz
Ni hao Mr. Jim,

Huatong Ltd. is not a distributor or business partner of
sane-project.org. SANE (Scanner access now easy) is no company but a
non-profit project intended to provide scanner driver for computers. So
there can't be a distributor or business partner.

Kind regards

Henning Geinitz

This email is from China domain name registration center, which mainly
deal with the domain name registration and dispute internationally in
 China.
We received an application from Huatong Ltd on November 4, 2013. They
want to register sane-project as their Internet Keyword and
 sane-project .cn ? sane-project .com.cn ? sane-project .net.cn
? sane-project .org.cn domain names etc.., they are in China
domain names. But after checking it, we find sane-project conflicts
with your company. In order to deal with this matter better, so we
send you email and confirm whether this company is your distributor or
business partner in China or not?

OS: Mac OS X 10.6

In manual tables to configure scanner you have (example):
Vendor CANON ? ID: 0x04A9

in MAC correct ID is:
Vendor ID: 0x04a9 (Canon Inc.)

(you can see it in devices connected to USB bus in:
'About this mac more info')

When I use BIG letter A instead of a in vendor ID my mac can't see the
scanner.
Also, finding Vendor and prouct ID is easier that way, instead of searching on
web page.

Regarding the sane frontend page,
sane-project.org/sane-frontends.html.

Tried the link to the Epson image scan page and it failed. The new
linux homepage for Epson products appears to be:

avasys.jp/eng/linux_driver/

and the page for the image scan software for scanners appears to be:

avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/scan/DL1.do

Please update. Thanks :)

P.S., sorry about emailing you direct --- I couldn't figure out how to
limit to the 'website' category on the bug-tracking system as
recommended on the contact page.

page and scanner, plus the same combinations for sheet scanner
It seems there is no way of searching for a string? I'm search results

This is reported on the Sane database as unsupported. I have
previously been unable to use it except under Windows which is a
nuisance.

Using SuSE 11.0, when I connected via USB I was asked if I wished to
configure the scanner which was correctly recognised as a Minolta
Dimage Elite 5400 film scanner.

I then selected the Avision back end driver and appear to have full
functionality with Vuescan.

I suggest the database is amended.

Good idea to make a new release!

With Henning being so busy, I am offering to take the lead on
releasing 1.0.19. However, I will need some handholding, so if Henning
(or anyone else for that matter :) wants to do it instead, I would be
 happy.

I won't have enough time...

There is a guideline in doc/releases.txt that might help.

Uploading is done only to alioth (FTP+HTTP) as rpm.org does not exist anymore.

Good luck!
