Hi, I came across http://www.hazelcast.com/ whilst browsing some ruby blogs. Its like it may be a potential alternative backend to the reference-manager, or as the buffering layer. It claims to be very fast. Its also been using on large clusters on Amazon EC2:

Hello, Has some interesting features like distributed queues/maps/lists so you can 'easily' share jobs over JVMs running the same app in different virtual machine instances (I think - just had a quick look at http://www.hazelcast.com/documentation.jsp). Distributed Taverna? Cheers, Ian Ian
