showimg malfunction in Kubuntu Hardy

I determined that the malfunction is being caused by the patch:
kubuntu_09_flickerfree_qiconview.dpatch (see Bug 209227).
As a matter of fact, the library file libqt-mt.so.3.3.8 obtained by
compiling the source package qt-x11-free_3.3.8-b-0ubuntu3 *without*
applying that patch works correctly
The package libqt3-mt version 3.3.8-b-0ubuntu3 and the latest version
3.3.8-b-5ubuntu1 taken from the ubuntu repository are causing the
malfunction in showimg while version 3.3.8really3.3.7-0ubuntu11 (ubuntu
repo) as well as version 3.3.8b-5 (debian repo) are not. It should be
worth to review
I upgraded Kubuntu 8.04.1 to KDE 3.5.10 = problem still present.
Note that the debian package showimg_0.9.5-1.1_i386.deb installed alone with
dpkg shows the problem too under Kubuntu Hardy, while it does not under Gutsy.
I suspect that the problem is most likely related to the libraries rather
Bingo! Downgrading the package libqt3-mt from version
3:3.3.8-b-0ubuntu3 to 3:3.3.8really3.3.7-0ubuntu11 restores the
correct behaviour of showimg (even though it might break something
else...).
Tested on Kubuntu Hardy (KDE 3.5.10) i386 up to date.
This suggests that a bug has been introduced in
Update: the application works correctly under openSUSE 11.0 / KDE4
(showimg 0.9.5, kipi 0.1.5 on KDE 3.5.9 release 49.1, opensuse 11.0).

Bugs,
I add that the problem affects both Kubuntu 8.04 and Kubuntu-KDE4 8.04 but not
Kubuntu 7.10 or previous. You can easily check it by simply running the live CD
then install and run the package showimg:
$ sudo apt-get install showimg
$ showimg
May be a Qt regression?

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: showimg
I found that the application showimg (0.9.5-1.1ubuntu2) behaves
incorrectly in Kubuntu Hardy while it worked fine in previous
distributions. In particular, the thumbnails / icons suddenly disappear
when the mouse pointer passes over them; they
Update: Hardy: problem still present :-( patch still apply :-)
I know that most users don't care about this problem because either (1) they
don't need the changelog OR (2) they are not restricted behind a proxy OR (3)
they use Synaptics or whatever else (1+2+3 probably makes near 100% of the
The same for me. Kubuntu-KDE4 Hardy up to date.

Just a few notes.
* I saw this problem also in every later kernel versions
* The script editing above actually has little effect (I posted it with too
much precipitation, I apologize)
* The best workaraound I ever found is outlined here:

I apologize for the long delay, but at the end I got the patched Adept
installed in a Kubuntu desktop 7.10 x86 virtual machine (vmware) hosted on both
a PC directly connected to internet and a PC connected through a
proxy/firewall. I played with them for a while and both worked fine for me.

I re-checked after a long time and I found that the problem is still
present in Gutsy (this is the bad news) but the patch given above
(proxy_fix.patch) is still working for the current adept package:
adept-2.1.3ubuntu17.1 (this is the good news). The patched package
correctly retrieves the
It looks like it's a duplicate of Bug #140464. This bug has already been
fixed in Gutsy / Hardy.

Hi,
I'm trying to boot the Kubuntu Gutsy Tribe 5 live CD (AMD64), but X starts my
nvidia GE-FORCE 7300LE at a refresh rate too high for my (old) analog CRT (max
60 Hz @ 1024x768), so the monitor can't sync.
I tried to change the boot options (VGA resolution, safe graphical mode) but
nothing
I'm happy to know that this is not a problem with *Ubuntu (I found
Xubuntu is affected too), nevertheless I found that the problem can be
solved by simply editing xorg.conf as follows:
1. At the end of the section ServerLayout add the line
InputDevice XWorkAround
2. At the end of the
