@Alex, this is not an issue with a corrupted CD but the wrong cd image is used
for a cd upgrade.
@solsyst, the documentation says to upgrade to 9.10 with an *alternate* CD not
a desktop CD. Hence you need to download the iso named
kubuntu-9.10-alternate-amd64.iso .
This is not a bug in Ubuntu
