The problem has passed since I gave up the second sound card. But I don't know then how hard is it to copy usable features from other operating systems, here I mean MS Windows. There I can't disable hardware I don't wish to use. Even to get to select the hardware, like a soundcard to use would be

In the good old days, when I had plenty of free time, I used Slackware Linux so I'm used to hacks like the one I posted before. But I agree with Toni, ubuntu is supposed to be linux for human beings not linux for linux gurus... Cases like this does not help solving bug #1 -- Kubuntu Feisty

I have 3 soundcards, and I did the following: 1) blacklisted every soundcard module I use in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist: blacklist snd_cmipci blacklist snd_via82xx blacklist snd_emu10k1 2) re-enable modules in /etc/modules so they get loaded in the order I choose: snd_cmipci snd_via82xx

I have 3 sound cards on my computer (1 PCI + 2 USB). With edgy, no problems, the 3 devices have the same slot after each boot. But with feisty, the slot number is now unpredictable after each boot. Can you help to find a solution for this ? -- Kubuntu Feisty sound card selection

Ok, I solved the problem by hard coding my sound card to sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base on the slot 0. BUT I still consider this an issue that is worth fixing. Less tampering around with the Konsole and more on the nice and sparkling GUI. This is how everybody could enjoy using (K)ubuntu!
