[Bug 1965123] Re: Rounded corners are missing (square indents instead)

2024-03-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The dock fix isn't actually a fix, it's just a workaround:
https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/commit/46b81aeb4bf18d2f8a75fbf2d0ef6c047f3711f2

I expect that if we can get a proper fix into gnome-shell then the
workaround can be removed.

[Bug 1930914] Re: ubuntu-minimal depends on ubuntu-advantage-tools

2024-03-11 Thread mkoniecz
This is just malicious. You are not only packacking Ubuntu as adware,
you are making it deliberately harder to unbreak for people interested
specifically in spam removal.

While Ubuntu with easily removed ads would be still adware it would be
at least less annoying for people wishing to fix it.

And here you make deliberately harder to remove ads, despite that it
would already requires tinkering not done by vast majority of people.

I get ads on every single SSH login, that is incredibly spammy.
Currently for me that is majority of ad consumption and I will get rid
of it even if it means migration of several servers I am managing to a
different OS.

[Bug 2054598] Re: AWS kernels lacking sound support (even snd-aloop missing)

2024-03-11 Thread Daniel Gibson
** Description changed:

  I need the snd-aloop module (and its dependencies: snd, snd-timer, snd-
  pcm) on an AWS server.

- The linux-modules-extra-aws package (or the one this drags in) used to
provide that module (as a fix for
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+bug/1970586) but then
stopped providing it (probably when upgrading from Kernel 5.15 to 6.2?).

  That means that this bug is a regression (I didn't find a way to reopen the

[Bug 2056743] Re: Keyboard stops working after suspend on Dell XPS 13

2024-03-11 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I think the fix was included in 5.15.149 upstream;

https://lwn.net/Articles/963359/

Input: atkbd - skip ATKBD_CMD_SETLEDS when skipping ATKBD_CMD_GETID

The kernel team have just pulled in 5.15.148, and haven't started on
149. They will likely get to it in the next week or so.

Thanks,
Matthew

[Bug 2056543] Re: Ubuntu 24.04 breaking gnome, showing "Oops.." requesting logout, and several instabilities when using GDM3 instead of Waylan after upgrading from 22.04 to 24.04

2024-03-11 Thread Carlos H Simoes
Yes.

I reproduced it exactly here to validate, when trying to close an APP by
clicking on the dock, when closing, the session was immediately logged
out.

A few days ago, I tried to disable Waylan, but the problems seem to
recur more often. But it happens anyway.

In some cases, for example, if you try to just block the current
session, it also generates behavior.

Below is the result of journalctl attached to this.

Thanks!

[Bug 2056549] Re: Problems with nfs-common after upgrade to 3.6

2024-03-11 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Rainer,

Thanks for the screenshots.

The updated package changes how the '-o vers=4' parameter works. The old
/ wrong behaviour would always use nfs v4.0 no matter what. All other
nfs-common versions apart from the version in focal would try v4.2, then
if that didn't work, then v4.1, and then v4.0, and then eventually v3.0,
in a laddering fashion.

You can see in your second screenshot that:

$ mount -vvv -o vers=4 /srv/www/nextcloud/data
...,vers=4.2,...

See, it now tries v4.2 by default? I guess your QNAP appliance is not
replying to v4.2 version negotiation correctly. It is suppose to ladder
down to 4.1 and then 4.0, but maybe the QNAP server doesn't reply
correctly and nfs-common just waits.

Can you try each specific version and report back?

$ mount -vvv -o vers=4.2 /srv/www/nextcloud/data
// this should hang?

$ mount -vvv -o vers=4.1 /srv/www/nextcloud/data
// unknown.

$ mount -vvv -o vers=4.0 /srv/www/nextcloud/data
// this should work

As a workaround in the meantime, you can edit your /etc/fstab to set
nfsvers=4.0, and you should be restored to what it was before. Just add
a ".0" to the end of "nfsvers=4".

Do you happen to have access to the QNAP appliance to configure NFS
versions?

Thanks,
Matthew

In KDE Wayland session, the screen freezes for a few seconds and then
graphical corruption appears on screen. This issue did not happen in
previous versions of ubuntu (mantic/jammy) that I have run previously.
This appears to be a regresssion in the amdgpu kernel driver or mesa.

I have attached a journalctl from the previous boot (any other logs that
were auto-uploaded as part of this report are likely not relevant). It
is named: look_at_this_journalctl_from_previous_boot.log

[Bug 2056434] Re: Thunderbird profile not migrated to snap

2024-03-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The issue there is that the stable snap is missing a change which is in
the beta channel to allow read access to ~/.thunderbird (snap blocks
access to hidden directories by default).

I've pushed a fix to the vcs now
https://git.launchpad.net/~desktop-snappers/thunderbird/+git/snap/commit/?id=0fcac123

a new snap build should start in a few moments

[Bug 2049243] Re: [SRU] package timidity-daemon 2.14.0-8ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: installed timidity-daemon package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 5

2024-03-11 Thread Seiichi Nakashima
I investigate mypathes.sf2 that is written in wine wiki.

timidity -iAD -B2,8 -Os1l -s 44100 -x'soundfont
/usr/share/midi/sf2/mypatches.sf2 order=1'

https://wiki.winehq.org/MIDI

/usr/share/midi/sf2/mypatches.sf2 is nothing in my PC.
then I rewirte timidity command as below using ubuntu-20.04.6 environment

timidity -iAD -B2,8 -Os1l -s 44100

then work fine.
so I update ubuntu-22.04.4 environment, but do not work too.

  Description:  Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS
  Release:  22.04

-
  ngspice version: 36+ds-1
-

  The following happens:
  =

  ngspice is used by KiCad to simulate circuits.
  I have noticed that ngspice tends to crash or fail on relatively simple
circuits.

  Taking KiCad out of equation I can see that even trivialities lead to
  crashes.

  For example, create a text file "test.netlist" with the following
  content:

  --- CUT ---
  .title KiCad schematic
  .save all
  .probe alli
  .end
  --- CUT ---

  Then start ngspice command line tool and run this command: "source
  test.netlist".

  The results would be this:

  --- CUT ---
  No compatibility mode selected!

-
  Circuit: KiCad schematic

  Segmentation fault (core dumped)
  --- CUT ---

  Other than segmentation faults, sometimes ngspice attempts to allocate a
  negative amount of memory (which also results in crashes).

-
  The following is expected:
  =
  I expect that ngspice would not crash and would instead either do what it is
asked to do or report errors.
-

  Suggested change:
  =
  Update ngspice from version 3.6 to version 4.2: I have built v4.2 myself and
checked - it appears to work or report genuine errors in all cases where the
old ngspice simply crashes with no apparent reason.

** Attachment added: "acpidump.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056804/+attachment/5754950/+files/acpidump.txt

** Description changed:

  After updating to 6.5.0-25, I am experiencing a very peculiar form of
  screen corruption. It has been persistent and consistent across reboots.
  It does not manifest on 6.5.0-21, neither on 5.15.0-100.

  Another peculiarity is that right clicking on the right side and lower
  side of the screen makes the right-click menu appear in the upper-left
  area of the screen.

- I am attaching screenshots, kernel version is at the end of the filename.

[Bug 2056549] Re: Problems with nfs-common after upgrade to 3.6

2024-03-11 Thread Rainer Döpke
Hi,

in the attachment you can find a screenshot about the /etc/fstab.
Additionally you can find a screenshot about the mount result. The
command hung. The timeout time was already reached but the command is
running. This is the only output.

The NFS Server should be version 4.x. QNap can run both 3 and 4 at the
same time and I always used 4 (see /etc/fstab). If you need the exact
version please let me know and I will check it.

Best regards

Rainer

Quite possibly related, although the way the error manifests is
different. If the other bug is fixed, then it's very possible this one
will be too.

[Bug 2056802] [NEW] crypttab does not honor `x-initrd.attach` option

2024-03-11 Thread Heather Lemon
Public bug reported:

From systemd version 245+ an option was added x-initrd.attach

-

Setup this encrypted block device in the initrd, similarly to
systemd.mount(5) units marked with x-initrd.mount.

 Although it's not necessary to mark the mount entry for the root file
system with x-initrd.mount, x-initrd.attach is still recommended with
the encrypted block device containing the root file system as otherwise
systemd will attempt to detach the device during the regular system
shutdown while it's still in use. With this option the device will still
be detached but later after the root file system is unmounted.

All other encrypted block devices that contain file systems mounted in
the initrd should use this option.

 Added in version 245. [0]

-

release: noble
systemd version: 253.5-1ubuntu6

Install noble to a vm with virt-manager and encrypt the lvm during subiquity
install.
After successful install,
Modify /etc/crypttab to include the parameter in the 4th column
example:
sda6_crypt UUID=099aae4a-b11b-49a6-a6c4-62939eddf7a0 none luks,x-initrd.attach

update-initramfs -u -k all

During boot or shutdown the logs show
cryptsetup: WARNING: dm_crypt-0: ignoring unknown option x-initrd.attach

There are two separate problems
1. crypttab doesn't recognize x-initrd.attach option in /etc/crypttab file.
 cryptsetup: WARNING: dm_crypt-0: ignoring unknown option x-initrd.attach
2. this error happens on shutdown/restart
  [systemd-cryptsetup]: Device dm-crypt-0 is still in use.
  [systemd-cryptsetup]: Failed to deactivate: Device or resource busy.
The vm does eventually shutdown after throwing the above warnings.

[Bug 2056372] Re: Enabling SPF checks with CHECK_RCPT_SPF doesn't work

2024-03-11 Thread Dominic
Hi Mitchell,

I am setting CHECK_RCPT_SPF = true in /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.localmacros
where local macros are typically set.

I have run `update-exim4.conf` and `systemctl restart exim4`.

Then I send myself an email from an outlook.com account, which has SPF
enabled, and the headers report:

Received-SPF: none

I am expecting to see:

Received-SPF: pass

[Bug 2056434] Re: Thunderbird profile not migrated to snap

2024-03-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
> Unfortunately it does NOT work for me as described before

Could you check your profile comes from a compatible thunderbird version
(but if it doesn't it should tell you on first start with a dialog) and
report your problem upstream? If thunderbird fails to use a valid
profile copied manually then it's not a snap issue (unless your userdir
is on a non standard location/nfs share or similar)

[Bug 2056372] Re: Enabling SPF checks with CHECK_RCPT_SPF doesn't work

2024-03-11 Thread Mitchell Dzurick
Hi Dominic,

Thanks for taking the time to submit this bug report and make Ubuntu
better!

Where are you setting the variable CHECK_RCPT_SPF = true ?

Doing a quick google search I found[0] which looks like it may be
useful. It says to do the following -

1) Add `CHECK_RCPT_SPF = true` to the top of /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template
2) Run `update-exim4.conf`
3) Run `systemctl restart exim4`

If you could supply all the steps on how you configured your server and
reproduced the issue, that may be helpful as well.

[Bug 2039294] Re: apparmor docker

2024-03-11 Thread Georges Varouchas
As a temporary patch on my system, I disabled the apparmor rules for
/usr/sbin/runc

Following the documentation to disable one single apparmor profile
(link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AppArmor#Disable_one_profile )
:

```
sudo ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.runc /etc/apparmor.d/disable/
sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.runc
```

docker can now send signals to its containers.

---

re-activating is documented in the next paragraph in the page above:

```
sudo rm /etc/apparmor.d/disable/usr.sbin.runc
sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.runc
```

docker stop will not be able to send a signal to its containers anymore.

[Bug 1912880] Re: Touchpad (MSFT) not detected on Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 AMD

2024-03-11 Thread Alban Browaeys
You might want to try passing the various i8042 controller module linux
parameters (i8042.nomux=1, i8042.kbdreset=1, i8042.reset=1) and also
i8042.nopnp as told by your dmesg:

 [ 0.602905] i8042: PNP: PS/2 appears to have AUX port disabled, if this
is incorrect please boot with i8042.nopnp

note that the AUX port is the mouse.

You can set then via grub by setting GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" in /etc/default/grub and running update-grub as root. Or
plain edit enter then in the grub editor at boot.

Canonical is a CNA, not a Root CNA.

I don't see how an _unprivileged_ attacker could leverage this bug to be
a vulnerability. A clear proof of concept example would help demonstrate
that this bug can become an exploit.

[Bug 2056187] Re: fails to configure BOOTIF when using iscsi

2024-03-11 Thread Alexsander de Souza
I think you can continue with your current kernel. We should back-port
this to all LTS

[Bug 2051916] Re: [MIR] promote libtraceevent as a trace-cmd dependency

2024-03-11 Thread Nick Rosbrook
> Yes, because for now I am submitting the patch I am generating from
the build I submit to my PPA to test.

FWIW, the convention for ppa uploads is to append ~ppaX to the new
version number.

> Yes, this is done intentionally because AFAIU the static lib is not
supposed to be used by consumers of libtraceevent

Ah, okay. This was causing me a lot of confusion, since you are kind of
mis-using the LIBTRACEEVENT_STATIC variable. The point remains either
way that you should simply use -ltraceevent (this is what any real
consumer will do) instead of grepping `dpkg -L`. If you want to keep
using LIBTRACEEVENT_STATIC for this purpose, please add a comment
explaining that we are knowingly hijacking this variable to instead link
against the shared library. Otherwise, it will continue to be confusing.

[Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-11 Thread Guy Schlosser
I have read in a couple other pages that I can edit
/etc/apparmor.d/firefox. Since I'm using version 124 beta 9, and my
firefox is installed in /opt/firefox, do I just adjust the path in that
file to make it work? Thanks much in advance for the help.

[Bug 2052930] Re: liblocale-gettext-perl autopkgtests fail against glibc 2.39

2024-03-11 Thread Simon Chopin
It turns out the fix was already in the upstream repo as a PR for a
while (couple of years?). I've submitted a Salsa MR to proactively
address the issue before it shows up there:

https://salsa.debian.org/perl-team/modules/packages/liblocale-gettext-
perl/-/merge_requests/1

and I've uploaded the same changes in Ubuntu.

1) Ctrl-] closes the connection
2) Ctrl-c does not close the connection
3) Password is not being displayed
4) Up arrow is working correctly, and not outputting junk characters

Many thanks!
