Thanks Vish, your workaround works for me. Just delete those two folders
then logout, no need for reboot

Pulse audio queues audio and gets locked to the
Though i'm not facing this bug anymore.
There are two or more issues here!
1. Pulseaudio is not able to upgrade properly.
-During the alpha cycle i noticed several issues were solved when i delete the
~/.pulse folder and the ~/.pulse-cookie file
-Options were not updated until i deleted those
Are users still seeing this issue with the current pulseaudio in karmic?
firefox itself doesn't play sound - was this conflict when playing sound
using a browser plugin? If so, what plugin was it?

I ran into this issue and did mac_v's #6 workaround. After a small
battle trying to get pulseaudio to restart, I can play things from
multiple source at once.
It doesn't appear to have had any negative impact and as requested, I'm
attaching my .pulse directory as it was before I deleted it.
**
I have just renamed ~/.pulse to ~/.pulse-old - deleted ~/.config/vlc
and reboot'd
Still unable to multi task sound output, i've attached my current
~/.pulse and ~/.pulse-old

I had a similar situation. mplayer -ao oss worked, but -ao alsa or
pulse just left mplayer hanging there. I removed .pulse, killall'd
pulse and restarted the daemon. Then it worked again.
I saved the .pulse folder, attached.
** Attachment added: dotpulse.tgz
I forgot to mention that I'm no certain this is the exact same bug (it
cerainly was a pulseaudio bug though).

Hmm... i was running valgrind for another bug and ran into this...the

sink-input-by-media-role:event, because already set.
D: module-intended-roles.c: Not setting device for stream
Deleting the directories did not fix the problem for me.

Ok , i think i solved this bug , this maybe due to some bad config? i
dont know.
Delete the folder:
1: ~/.pulse
2: ~/.config/vlc [if vlc is installed]
Deleting these two folders and then re-logging into my user account
solved the audio problems I'v reported here.
But is this a fix for the
mac_v can you post the contents of those folders on an account that is
experiencing these problems?

I did some more testing on this and i still face thsi problem in my
profiles.
But , when i create a new user , I'm able to play sound in multiple apps and
there is no locking.
Everything works perfectly with a new profile!
So i guess something in the ~/.pulse is blocking the proper
Getting exactly the same issue to, was able to multi output from
