I had this problem with ubuntu 11.10 when I pressing 2 or Enter at
login screen or in my account the first time I enter. A temporary
solution that work for me is:
Edit the file /etc/init/plymount-splash.conf and remove the line or
stopped udev-fallback-graphics.
So it should be:

Goddamnit, seems this is back after today's update to syanptics driver
update... 3 finger tap is single clicking everytime just like before. I
wish I could finally get an Ubuntu release that this works properly on
once and for all...

Ah, progress. I followed the instructions at Gnome bug 672917, and no
longer get the crash.
I edited
/usr/share/libwacom/bamboo-pen-and-touch.tablet
Where line 16 says:
Styli=0xf
then appending this second hex number, to make it:
Styli=0xf;0xe
Stops the crash.
