I love PCs and I would never give up my Windows Media Center for a Mac but in your case I would still maybe recommend Mac. When comparing hardware, Macs actually do come out cheaper. If price is a big issue, you can find a much cheaper PC notebook and you will probably be quite satisfied with

Nothing like a platform question to shake things up eh? ;) I'm a multi-platformer - and until recently, have always had the PC as my primary editing monster using Vegas. I don't think you will have any problem at all converting from the FCP family to Vegas - it just takes a little adjustment.

How about sub $200? You can get Final Cut Express for $155 right now, and it's pretty similar to Final Cut Pro, and can use almost all of the plugins/filters that FCP can. I spent last week evaluating about 30 free filters, so I've got a editing suite way more powerful than iMovie and way

Kary has the basics down. I use a Canon HV20 and shoot in 24P. It's not actually 24 progressive frames per second. It records 24 progressive frames across 60 interlaced frames. What this means is you have to do a double process. The first one is to import the video as HDV into Final Cut.

It is 24p. Real 24p. It is just 24p with 3:2 pulldown added. It is no different in that sense from film footage you've had telecine'd or 24p (as opposed to PA) DVX100 footage. And unlike the XH-A1 and its ilk, it is true 24P rather than the pixel shift res-compromised fakery (effective as it is)
