Pidgin supports a number of service types, and in some cases, particularly XMPP, a number of organisations provide those services, so, in those cases, it also provides the ability to configure the network address for the provider.

If Pidgin was provided for work or education use, the service provider is likely to be your employer or college. More generally, if Pidgin was provided pre-configured, you should consult whoever configured the machine. You couldn't configure it yourself without knowing the service provider.

Many of the mass market services have now been closed down, but in the past service providers for those included Microsoft, Yahoo and Google. I've lost track of which companies still provide public services with open protocols.

You need to contact the provider of the service you are using.  Pidgin
is just a tool that passes the user and password on to the service
provider, and passes the provider's rejection back to you.  It doesn't
decide whether or not they are correct.

There isn't enough information for me to guess your service provider.
