I've been asked to do the same thing on a few photos which I've done. The reason is anyone can take wikipedia and use it commercially.
For example, a lot of http://www.answers.com is wikipedia with ads. But I think the original purpose was to get wikipedia more widely distributed to people who don't have internet access (so articles could be put in a book, on a CD-ROM, etc).
