Hi Igor, > What style of font is it? Is it plain or bold?
I think the font itself is plain. I guess Swing tries to have a bold one. I tried using FreeSansBold.ttf instead, and it looks similar crappy, only bolder ;-) > How prototype looks on your system running your clean openjdk build? You mean the default rendering pipeline? Looks like this: http://kennke.org/~roman/swingdemo.png This might be using different fonts, I'm not sure which fonts are used by default for DIALOG, etc. But OTOH, I don't have many fonts on my system and none of them looks good on the cacio pipeline. > Can you prototype run Font2DTest? Unfortunately not yet. But this is a good idea to do, I need to fix the remaining problems for that kind of app anyway, and then come back to fonts. > Will be interesting to compare to openjdk in for couple of different > fonts/sizes and rasterization modes. Do you have a quick hint, how I can enable AA rasterization? As I said, I don't get any gray values in my rasterizer, only 0 and 255, even when the rendering hint is set to AA for text.
