UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE vs SONY vs BMG The battle between Underground Resistance and Sony over the "cover" of UR's track, Knights Of The Jaguar, is escalating as BMG picked up the track to release it in Germany. Sony had originally recorded the cover version "tone for tone" before Christmas, sparking a highly public war of words between UR and Sony, which eventually saw Sony backing down. "We understand that that you generally disagree with the whole major company business," Dirk Dreyer said. "In this case, Sony can be reproached for picking up someone else's idea for profit reasons, without taking care of the attitude of the inventor. We realize that even though we are save (sic) on the legal side and the reactions from the overground to our version are euphoric, its commercial release would cause a damage to the relationship of the industry to the underground that could not be compensated... Sony Music will not commercially release the track on CD maxi or compilations. We are quite sure that a different company will use the idea and milk the cashcow."
UR spokesman Cornelius reacted angrily to the new development, and issued a further statement over the net, calling for people to complain to BMG, about the ongoing saga over the record. "Folks, things are not what they seem. Then again, they are," Cornelius wrote. "Dirk (Dirk Dreyer, the Sony A&R behind the copy version) commented about other folks coming to "milk the cashcow" or some other crap like that. He wasn't joking." "It just kills me because these majors are basically uniting, saying, 'We can all gang up on you, so the Hell what.' I'm trying to hook up with folks beyond the techno community on this because, Hell, I figure, there's a lot of us, too. Some folks thought I was being reactionary, but look at what is happening. I think if anyone thinks that this stops with UR, you're deluding yourself. It's kind of funny. The underground, being what it is, can be eliminated and who is going to notice? Independent labels will suffer and may die out, fans will sit at home bored, but the machine will roll on and...I like to think that...I'm a little too stressed and pissed (angry) to continue. You all know where I was going with this. Not having much peace."
