I don't think there was too much more to it than described in the book ...
Plus 8 had the fortune/misfortune of being the first Caucasian Detroit-area
techno acts to get noticed (not counting KGB on Techno 2, I guess).  With
that position, and a marketing misstep (stamping their white labels with
"The Future Sound of Detroit") came a lot of resentment from the
African-American techno producers and DJs in Detroit.

I doubt a blow-by-blow reconstruction of conversations between the two
camps would have been of interest to readers outside the 313 list ...
