Thought you might find it interesting that last saturday there was an newsitem in Euronews (24 h european news channel, in case you don't know it) about Laurent Garnier's new album. The album itself was covered pretty hastely, but then the story went on to the development of techno music. The narrator mentioned the Belleville Three as the pioneers/founders of techno music, did the normal "it's so hard to say actually when/where techno (or electronic music to be more precise) really started" -routine, and also mentioned Kraftwerk and Detroit funk as the big influences for techno. IMO they got their facts pretty well covered (for a 5 minutes long newsclip, at least :).
They had interviewed not only Mr. Garnier but also Jeff Mills. The talked about the past and present state of techno, what it is like being a dj (Mills compared dj'ing to playing drums: "you hit the drum, you know it's there, but you don't look at it" :) and how the music has been spreading all over the world in the last 10-12 years. It brightened up my day a bit, anyway. :) J Jussi Lehtonen [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.netppl.fi/~sandman "Do not allow yourself to be programmed. For once, in your life, take control. Take control." - UR
