I agree with you whole heartedly Sean. Back in the
early 80's I also discovered Mojo's show then WDET's
Dimensions and CBC's Brave New Waves. Besides the
innovating styles of the music played on these shows
the main draw for me to come back and tune in
nightly/weekly was the unique formats of these
programs that allowed the hosts to go into depth about
the artists. Mix shows sometimes (usually?) lack this.
Personally I like hearing a song I already know
creatively used in a mix by a DJ but I like to be
surprised by a new track once in a while also. So I
think another show with a relaxed format similar to
the ones above is always welcome in my book. I think
it's great that Craig is asking for the options of
others for imput for his show. What's wrong with that?
Is there some magic techno magic ball where you're
supposed to look into to find out about latest or
greatest tracks? Sure looking to other DJs and seeing
what they're playing is one way but that can be
limiting also. Craig already has some 313 content in
those weekly shows, I heard him play Drexciya a couple
weeks ago and he even discribed the mysterious origins
of the group. But he could use more Detroit stuff (imo)
Knowing about Craig's lack of internet savy I
understand that some of the resources that we have to
learn more about music isn't at his disposile so he's
trying another avenue to get some recommendations. He
already has a knowledge of electronic/techno music but
just wants to learn more just like most of us. Now if
he could only cure his penchant for trance ;-).

Linda-As for requests for his show (X2K)...How about
anything by Terrence Parker (Detroit After Dark, etc.)
and Kenny Larkin (Metaphors, Dark Comedy stuff, etc.).
In those 2 great Detroit artists you have some of the
most beautiful techno & house (disco) sounds of
Detroit covered plus I always like to hear Southfield
represented on Detroit radio.

For those that read my long a*s post:
 I have a new longsleeve Inuit-Solar tee-shirt
(medium/black) I'm giving away. I got it as a promo
gift so I'm not going to sell it. You'll probably want
to be a female because it is a medium and it might not
fit if you're a dude. I'd like to keep it and sport it
next month down at the WMC but at 6'3" and 210 that's
not gonna happen ;-). If you're interested just email
me and I'll sent it off to ya. (I'll pay shipping
too).

later & peace..

,Dave Maj.

from my perspective I think playing music from CD's is
a good thing. I
havent
heard the show yet, but the last thing Detroit needs
is another *mix*
show!
With turntables the host might be inclined to do a
straightup two hour
mix of
track after track with no informational content
whatsoever. From the
standpoint
of an artist: Mixshows do *not* sell records.
I'm partial to the old days when DJ's would play
tracks and tell you
what the
hell they'd just played between tracks, they'd maybe
give you some
background
on the artist and the label ect befor or after. that's
much more
helpful to the
artist than simple blending a continuos mix of
faceless anonymous
tracks. I
learned so much about artists from the old shows like
Radio's in
Motion, Brave
New Waves, Electrifying Mojo, Fast Forward ect. To me
knowing the
background
stories of the artists makes me feel that much closer
to them when I go
out and
buy thier music. am I the only one?
